HTC Droid Eris :: Contact Backup With Gmail?

I was just wondering: with news that the 2.1 update will wipe contacts when you install it, is there any way to back up your contacts? I have a lot and I don't feel like entering them one by one again... I think there's a way to do it with Gmail but I haven't figured it out. Any programs or ways to do it?
I tried searching and nothing exactly came up, so if this has been addressed before, please just link and let the thread get buried =]

if this has been covered I tried to search but couldnt find anything. My problem is syncing contact with Gmail. My eris will pull contact from gmail no problem but will not upload them from my phone. Any idea what im doing wrong if anything?

For some reason, whenever I send out an email to someone that's not in my contact list, it appears as a new contact under the people app, with the email address listed. I don't want it to automatically add these emails to my contacts. Is there a way I can stop this, besides un-syncing my Gmail account?

After updating to 2.1v2 from 1.5 I cant find where you control which groups gets synced. When I go to People->Groups->Menu the option for 'Sync Groups' is missing. I have so many contacts in GMail, id prefer to only sync certain groups.

I, obviously, pre-ordered the DI and I'm trying to get everything in my Gmail ready so that when I get the phone I can streamline the whole setup process. What's the best way to combine contact info from My Verizon/Backup Assistant and contacts in Gmail? Should I start manually combining names, numbers, addresses, and emails in My Verizon? Is Gmail better at syncing and management or can all this be done in the phone with People? What about groups? Will those translate if I set up groups in Gmail and/or My Verizon?

I just flashed xtrROm...and have the following issues:
1. Some random contacts from my gmail account do NOT synch to the phone. No rhyme or reason - just a handfull of contacts are NOT on the phone. I can't make a connection to "Groups", with/without an e-mail or phone#, etc. It just seems completely random.
2. Battery life is horriible. I'm talking about draining to nothing in a few hours (This is a separate issue I will look into). Regarding gmail contacts, it seems that it is constantly doing a Contact Sync - and DOES NOT STOP.

I tried using the free sms Backup+ and could not get any info. So I purchased Backup to Gmail. I am still having the same problem both apps miss received messages in backup. Both apps get the time wrong on received messages. They are correct on my phone but at least 4 hour difference on gmail backup. I have a Droid x.

I think I'll root tonight. Btw, a lot of the guides and threads I see are pre-ota2.2 so i don't know if that's the safest way. So I am going to root using the D2 method here. As I take it there isn't an easier method for the DX right now. Then from there I 1. Select bootstrap recovery 2. Reboot Recovery 3. When the recovery loads, move down and select "backup/restore" select backup. 4. Press camera button after backup to reboot. 5. Find a theme. Put on sd card. Right? Do I need to select bootstrap recovery every time i want to install a new theme before I hit reboot recovery? I know I need rom manager regardless, is it better to backup on RM or Koush? Or both? Titanium backup will save all my apps, even paid apps correct? Is there anyway my titanium backup can be erased? And so all my contacts are automatically backed up to my gmail account or do I do that myself?

I installed Petes Bugless rom and It was a little too buggy for me so I went back to my nandroid backup. Everything is fine except for my Gmail will not send an email. It will receive just fine but will not send. It just says sending... I have tried to send myself emails to my other accounts and receive nothing. I can send email with my .Mac email on my Droid though. I tried to delete my account and re-install and it won't let me because its my main one. It says I have to wipe my data first and I really don't want to do that.

Because Gmail doesn't do a good job of receiving emails sent to my POP3 accounts, I would like to use the Mail app on my Eris to receive all my mail, including my Gmail.I was able to set up my Mail app to receive my Gmail, but how do I keep the Gmail app from receiving mail going to my Gmail account?

I have wiped data and restored my apps twice with Titanium so far. It all works well, but two minor problems. First, every time I do it all of my previous call logs, and all of my previous handcent text messages also get reset. Is there a way I can restore all of these as well?
Also is there a way I can restore my non-gmail email account so I do not have to go through the whole set up of putting in the incoming and outgoing settings all over again. It isn't a huge deal, but it does get annoying redoing the path, the port and the security every single time.
I might just not be doing the correct restore as I only do the batch restore missing apps with data and not all apps with data, but I do not know for sure.

Having issues with gmail contact sync. I was using the blackberry tour which I synced regularly with outlook. When I switched to the Droid i exported the vcard into gmail and the gmail synced with my droid. The problem is some of my contacts have been merged with other contacts. For example, Nick with no last name was merged with Nick H that does have a last name. They should be two different Nicks and I dont understand why the droid is combining them. I have checked the gmail account and the two Nicks are NOT merged together, but the two Nicks ARE merged on the actual phone. My phone was syncing with facebook and gmail but i disabled the auto sync and just manually synced the gmail on its own but i still have the same problem. I also have another friend with the same problem on her droid.

My contacts came from my Gmail account, which was very convenient.
But I noticed that if I change a contact on the Droid the changes are NOT synced back to Gmail.
At the moment if I look on the Droid for Contacts/Accounts/ me@gmail.com, I see Sync is ON, Calendar is synced up to present time, Mail is synced up to present, but Contacts are synced until 2. December only!
The sync symbol appears at Contacts, but the date and time isn't changing, it stays at 2. December.

I was trying to call my brothers cell. I have called him before on my droid and texted him. However, I just noticed He is not in my contacts!
I goto my gmail account, I have 193 names there, including his, but on my phone I only have 183!
However, when I dialed his number, his name popped up!
Where are these contacts, and why aren't they syncing? If I do a search for his name on my phone, it does not show up either. This is a critical issue!
I went to my gmail account and 'touched' his name, changed his address from road to rd. Forced a sync, but still it doesn't show on my phone. I have my phone set to show 'all other contacts' , which is the group on my gmail account.

I'm on the edge up upgrading to 2.1, went through and did the steps up to putting the zip on the card. There's one thing concerning me though. It says to do a factory reset. Will this purge/delete any contacts that were entered as "phone" (versus "Google")? I have several contacts, from work, that I entered as phone. I'm looking for a way to back everything up. Looked through the sd card files and didn't see anything. I ran ContactSync app from the market, said it would move all contacts from "Phone" to "Google," on the actual phone it did, but when I check Google contacts directly, they don't exist. Is there a manual method to create a .csv file from everyone in the phone to have a more tangible backup copy? I've tried doing HTC Sync, but the program seems like trash. It doesn't connect to the eris and no way of forcing it to look for the phone. Tried running with USB debug on/off, and sd card mounted/nonmounted.

I am having a hell of a time with lots of contacts being saved. I have 116 in my phone but when I try to backup using My Backup Pro it says I have 502. The first week I had my phone I had to take it to a Sprint store to get it straightened out. I have merged all my contacts in Gmail and show nothing unusual in my "people" app or in the contacts when I go to my "phone". The other issue I am having is that I cannot get my phone to sync contacts with my Tundra. Had no issues with my HTC Touch Pro. Now it just says that it cannot sync (truck is in the shop or I would get the actual message).

I wanted to manually upgrade my eris but I wanted to back up all my contacts first. I find out the HTC sync doesn't work with windows 7 =[ I tried for about 2 hours and gave up on that one. I noticed you could sync your phone with your gmail account you used on the phone. Only I forgot which one that is I don't ever use gmail so I don't know what email I made. I really want to update it because I'm so impatient but I don't want to have to redo all my contacts.

Is there any way I can backup my contacts so that I can save all the high res photos? because I just reapplied everyone's contact picture and so they are nice and pretty. However, when I wipe my phone and re-sync contacts with google, all of their photos are going to go back to being horribly pixelated. Can I use titanium backup or something?
and as an added bonus, is there any way i can backup everyone's custom ringtone?

My Cousin Albert lives with his parents. He has a cell phone and his parents have a normal phone.I put them in the same contact which maybe I shouldn't have but anyway, my cousin's cell phone is rarely on. However, in the contact list, his cell # is the default, so when I press the contact it calls him.I want to change it to my Aunt and Uncle's home tel #. How can I do that?And maybe I should make my cousin a different topic, but I have this problem with other contacts, just the default being their cell (or home) number,when I want it to be their home (or cell) number.

This app allows people to see your contact info in case you lose your phone. Seems like kind of a necessity if you're using the security lock. Otherwise how will people know how to find you?But before you set it up it says the app may cause a crash if you're on an HTC android phone. Question: Has anyone tried this one on the Eris? Do you have any other suggestions for a similar app?

I could not find this particular problem. i just switched to 2.1 and had a bit of trouble restoring my contacts with my backup pro. long story short, i imported most of my contacts back into gmail, did a sync but my contact card is inaccessible. it just reads loading with the working circle icon. i realize its not at the top of the list of problems but i would like to have all my info there in the event of losing the phone or otherwise. anyone else encounter this issue or have i popped?
