2 days into owning the Desire and as a gadget fan I'm like a kid in a sweet shop. Is there a way to place files on your homepage - I'd like easy access to a a London underground map which I have saved as a .pdf?

Possible to lock down shortcuts on the 3 home pages? I seem to always loose them or move them or delete them by accident with my fingers while navigating around.

The plan is to extract data as needed to temporary files since the API Requires a file descriptor (as opposed to an input stream). The question is where can an Android app write files - we can assume these are small and regularly purged. I do not believe the /sdcard is required.

i have downloaded quite a few apps to play with and get a feel for what each does etc, but not ive had issues where i need to free up space.
i have found that my apps go to the phone by default and not sd card.
just wondered where i change this, if its possible, and how i can move any that have already been saved to the phone?
THE SPEAKERPHONE IS CRAP! It just sounds tinny and horrible and distorts all over the place. It has no mid-tones or bass (as much as phones can have bass). Even my little old Nokia does speakerphone 100 times better, and that this is no super-phone. So, is there some kind of graphic equaliser app that can fix this? Please?
View 34 Replies View RelatedHow do you go about checking what is stored on your phones memory and deleting content? For example I used dropbox and downloaded a 7mb photo onto my phone. Can't find it in the photos app or anywhere else. Going into SD & phone storage under settings doesn't do anything. It says I have 70mb available space under phone storage but you can't click on that to get any further info. Same goes for the SD card options.

My question regards a copy of Family Guy (Something, Something, Something, Dark Side) which I purchased yesterday. The standard DVD also comes with a digital copy on the DVD which, when inserted into the drive brings up a choice of transferring the file to my computer to be copied over to my Desire as either a iTunes file or a Windows Media Video (WMV).Ideally I want to avoid the iTunes route as currently I have no use for that program on my system so I would like to be able to use the WMV version. When I copied the file to my Desire, it didn't play and the phone didn't seem to recognise it. Can anyone please give me advice on how to play a WMV on my Desire?

When I try to launch market place with id of an application say com.mybrowser.android by throwing an intent android.intent.action.VIEW with url: market://details?id=com.mybrowser.android, the market place application does launches but crashes after launch.
Note: the application com.mybrowser.android doesn't exists in the market-place.
MyApplication is my application.

I just got the Hero today in the UK and am on the Orange network. On the Home screen i have 4 icons and the 3rd one is browser. If I press it I instantly get a white page (Instantly as in no loading time or attempt to connect to the internet) with black writing. It has loads of symbols and http stuff at the start. Then continues with the message "The page you are trying to access is only available via your orange phone when connected via the orange gprs network.
The part at the start also mentions orange world. If I go into More-Settings-Set Homepage I try and change this to google it shows as google is the Homepage. But again if I launch the browser again I get the white page with black writing. The funny thing is I can connect to the internet no problem by typing in a URL manually. And I am using the orange network for that. I called tech supp for orange and the guy was pretty useless and no joy. Why no homepage, but can browse through URLS's?
Is there a way to set the homepage in Chrome in ICS?

Already i can see that android is significantly better than Winmo 6.5 which was awful in my opinion.Is there an app that can play avi files? If not is there something that is free to use that can convert the files to a format that suits the Desire.I have searched the forums and market place but with no luck.
Any app that, when I single-tap the Home button on my phone, it will check to see if my default browser is open, and if it is not, open it, and set it to the Home address? And of course, if the browser is open, set the browser to the Home address without opening another Tab.
If I need to explain it further, lets just say I want to be able to have my Home button, instead of a tap resetting my phone to the home screen of the launcher, instead, Launch my default Browser (whether it be Chrome, Firefox, Dolphin, etc...) to the Home Address. If my browser is open, SET it to Home Address, without opening more tabs.
Long story short, at work, we have this new tablet runs on Android. The administrator has disabled the Home button so the window does not get closed. I'd rather it'd be enabled, and instead, reset the Browser to it's Home address. This particular tablet, will only use this browser window.
I was at the AT&T Store last night trying out this phone during Woot.com's woot off. I tried going to Woot.com and every time the browser shut down and kicked me to the home page. Scared me off the phone a bit. Then, by chance, I was on Woot.com's boards and found out that two other Captivate users had the same problem. Not sure what this means, but is this a problem with certain sites on the Captivate?
