Well now that shops finally sell it and more and more people have it by now, I thought to put this kind of thread up for everyone to comment their initial impressions and feelings about the phone, I am sure all of us who are still waiting for it are anxious to read your thoughts! Was it everything you hoped for, which things could have been done better? What good there is , what bad ?

Like the rest we are waiting for Epic release. Some of us are stuck with our phones. Some can upgrades. But for those that want to upgrade to the Epic are you paying out of pocket? Are you able to upgrade now? Is your upgrade in October like many of or September? What will you do? Has Sprint ever given you an early upgrade and if so by how far from your actual upgrade date?

Not that the above sticky is not useful and interesting. For those who have not read it, there is a debate raging about the effect of a specific OC setup on battery life.Regardless of that, has anybody else tried to overclock the processor for speed, or underclock it for battery? I am curious about a few things:
1. If you overclock the process for speed, which applications benefit? So far, there is very little lag anyway - without overclocking.
2. Is it not necessary to up the voltage going to the Evo processor when overclocking? For example, when I overclocked my home pc, I changed the voltage and the RAM timing.
3. When underclocking, if the same "stock" voltage is going to the processor anyway how does anybody expect to get battery savings? In my mind, the speed of the processor is not the issue, it is the energy that the processor consumes. (Or is this automatically handled by the widget behind the scenes?)
4. When underclocking the processor - have you experienced more lag? What is the "slowest" the processor can run before you notice anything?
5. What general experiences have you had with applications, the process, etc.

After reading a lot in the eris forum about the SD Card debate, I've decided to drop the cash on a 32GB card. However, since I haven't made the purchase yet, I was wondering what some of you thought of the brands. There is a class 2 sandisk out there a brand I know very well, but its only a class two. Then there are two brands I have never heard of: 3C and Topram. Has anybody had any experience with these brands? If so, what do you think of them? The cards are cheaper and faster (in theory) than the sandisk, but if it's a bad brand, then I don't think it'll be worth it.

Have been testing kernels the past few days, have a few thoughts:I've tried the Slayher v1.6 kernel, ChevyNo1's ULV, jdflg's, and p3droid's, all 1200mhz. With all kernels set to "on demand", I can't say for sure if any one gives more battery life than any other, my usage is too variable. P3Droid's are 125mhz base clock, while the others are 250 or 300mhz, but there wasn't an obvious difference with my use. I'm guessing at low clocks, processor drain is negligible unless you're going to be in a semi-sleep state for a long time. All kernels bench about the same, and P3Droid's don't feel any slower even with the lower base clock, which suggests to me that most kernel makers should consider including a sub-200mhz option. Kernels with "interactive governor" subjectively feel slightly faster when using interactive governor, but battery life is definitely a little shorter. All kernels seem equally stable. All kernels seem to run about the same temperature, with maybe a very slight edge to Chevy's ULV kernel (~2c loaded). Temperature monitoring is not very accurate. I turned on my phone earlier in class, to see a 13c CPU temp. That's about 8-10c below ambient. This is consistent on all kernels I have tried.

1. The circle that rotates while something is loading should never stutter, if it does something is not as it should be. It should be in its own separate thread and have enough resources for its simple task.
2. Sometimes there is a lag between tapping an icon and the application launching. The phone should keep the yellow background under the icon that is about to launch until it is launched. That way the user would know that the press was registered and no additional press is needed.
In general it is preferable to sacrifice almost everything to maintain a responsive UI. If that means that applications will take longer to load or will run slower, fine. One thing that has been discovered with the web is that people don't mind waiting, but they do mind not having accurate and quick feedback about what they have done and what is going on.

I'm thinking about buying a Desire on 3 in the UK and wanted to know if I could turn it into a wireless hotspot and use its 3G signal to power another device - like an iPad? Anyone know? Or am asking a bit too much from it? I think I've seen it on Nokias in the past.

I was just wondering about what people have to say in regards to experiences from Best Buy today. I have an appointment set up after work and wanted to know what the process would be like. I will be a new Sprint costumer (switching from the Big Red One) and signing a 2 year contract. Do they let you open the Evo box and let you set up the phone or do they mostly do all of that stuff? Let me know your thoughts.

My sister and her boyfriend each have their own mobiles, but they share the same land line. When someone calls me from that land line, caller ID always shows that it's my sister's boyfriend calling me, when 90% of the time it'll be my sister. Is there any way to change the default caller (in terms of caller ID) for a particular land line when a land line is shared among contacts?

What are the things that an android developer does to achieve it. So I need to know the basic functionality difference of IPad and other E-readers. I heard about Nook which runs an Android operating system. How do I test my app on that nook, i.e. is there any emulator configuration to test the application of nook? (Because I don't have nook now.) Can you post your suggestions to efficiently develop the application for nook e-reader?I need to know the following:What SDK to use for the nook Android platform.Configuration needs of An Emulator on AVD. Special key functionalities, like previous/next page. Specs and Functionality of Nook.

I got the bug fix around 5pm-ish CST. The update took a couple of minutes and here are my thoughts at 8pm. The good:
1. Love the new boot animation with the Samsung logo instead of the Android logo as the graphic is much better done and looks very nice on this screen compared to the Android logo and its jagged edges.
2. I already had the evernote app downloaded, so what happened is now it no longer shows up in the download folder.
3. New settings menu. Great they added a couple of things to the settings menu. Under Phone Settings, they added "Use wireless networks" above GPS to aid in location. Before this was only accessible via the voice dialer or google maps. And they added "About Phone" which again was only accessible by the voice dialer.
The unknown:
1. Battery life. As I've only had the update for a couple of hours, I'll have to get back to everyone on that.
2. Vibration: Hasn't happened yet, which is one of the big things I was having issue with when I would get a txt msg or wouldn't check it soon enough
The Bad:
Dont know, maybe just a fluke, I hope. I had the browser open to a blank page(I hit stop before it could load web2go), from the notification bar turned on wifi and poof, phone rebooted. Though it wasn't a complete reboot(with behold II, then tmo, then samsung logo). It simply went back to the Samsung logo and came back. Once back, I checked wifi, which was already set to on and I was able to connected and go on my happy way.So I'd say things are looking good, though of course too soon to say officially. Still gotta see if they fixed the issue with bluetooth file transfers.

A few weeks ago I registered for that network thing, back then I was using the HTC Hero. At first it would work, then if I turned my phone work, it would say "Sim can not be registered to this Network" and when I searched for other Networks, only Orange would appear.
When I got the Desire, I can never seem to get this to work still. Orange has terrible signal in my area although there site says its amazing. I never have network in my own home. and Im not sure I have ever saw full bars on my Desire.
So my question is, does yours work 24/7 if you have it. Does anyone else get the sim not registered thing after a reboot and how can I actually set it up properly cause I may be doing it wrong. p.s I have roaming n etc on

I have connected my HTC Desire to a samba share where I have my music, movies, etc, but I cannot make Desire play any of the mp3, movies, and I cannot see any photos either? I am using Astro File Manager.
I get no kind of error messages just a black screen with a little icon (which I don't remember right now.) Anyone got an idea of what could be wrong?

I got the update that Yahoo Mail 1.2.1 is available but it specifically says that Galaxy S phones aren't supported. Has anyone installed it to a rooted Capitivate? Experiences? I haven't yet installed it because I can't get side-loading enabled and I don't want to upgrade if I can't roll back to the prior version. That said, I hate the prior versions of Yahoo Mail because I find them extraordinarily slow. It routinely takes me >30 seconds for email body text to appear when I open a message.

Well, my upgrade date was yesterday and it's crunch time. I am leaning toward the X because of call quality and great GPS (important for me). I like the "flash and style" of the SF as well as the reasonable size. NEED SOME FINAL OPINIONS AND EXPERIENCES FROM SF USERS ON GPS AND CALL QUALITY- I have been here for many weeks and have read many posts on the topics which have left me cornfused- I am heading to Costco Verizon tomorrow night to ink a deal.

Today, I decided to test out my battery life by doing...nothing. Last night, I fully charged my Droid's battery. I woke up at 8am and unplugged it from the charger. I never turned the screen on and only have the default programs running. I received no phonecalls (haven't given out my new number) and I made no phone calls. I never even turned the screen on.
Tonight around 8pm I turned the screen on and had a warning about my battery's life. It said it was below 20% and when I clicked on the icon, it showed me a list of everything that had been using up the battery life. The Android OS and "standby" were the leading battery usage, but at only 29% and 37% respectively. Everything else was minimal.
Having not even used the phone, having bluetooth and wifi off and having the barebones applications running, this is completely unacceptable to me. Is this normally what the rest of you are seeing with your battery life? Did I possibly get a bad battery, a bad unit? Is there any other cause that I should be looking into?

So I returned my Eris today. The battery issues had been pretty much contained.I could get a full day out of a charge, but the lag was terrible.I had it all over the place despite running task killer, spare parts, clearing cache, etc. Then the phone started to get wacky. It would freeze with black screens when switching to home.Sometimes when going to home, I would get a black screen with an HTC logo displayed for about 20 seconds, then it would show Sense UI loading for about 10 seconds (dimmed picture, loading logo, no applications). Also, I would have periods where I could not switch between screens. The dialer was ridiculously laggy as well. I would press end, and the phone wouldn't end for about 5 seconds. Dialing the phone sometimes I would have a 1-2 second delay when pressing buttons.

I'm hoping to get a little insight here from the members of the community that have devices that are not rooted, or from members that have experience prior to their rooting. Before I go into my questioning, I do want to preface this by stating that I have considered rooting my phone in the past, and have even tried (but failed) using the PreKitchen. Since then, I have made a definite decision that I will not be rooting my device. I have done TONS of research and reading on the topic, have asked and have had answered a lot of questions, and I've just decided that I do not want to do it. Yes, I understand the pros of doing it, I just choose not to. That being said, I would respectfully ask that those who take the time to respond to this post, please don't suggest rooting.
Ok, so I've owned the Hero since October, and for the most part, it has performed only marginally. The quirks, odditys and under performance issues I have experienced are nothing different from what has been talked about on this board, or others. Some issues, however, have been persistently bad, even after the "typical" troubleshooting methods have been used. Additionally, some of the things I've seen my device do haven't been talked about, or at least not in great detail, by many people. Some of the issues that I am experiencing, I am hoping that 2.1 will cure, however, I've come to a breaking point where I don't want to wait it out for the upgrade to finally release, only to find out that it didn't help. I've talked to Sprint Advanced Tech Support a few times and they seem to believe that it's a faulty device. Whether or not that is their response because they are stumped, or if the device actually IS faulty is what I'm hoping to figure out. They have agreed to send a replacement device to me, so I'm trying to get a feel for what to expect. Below are some of the issues I'm experiencing:
1. Wifi will not stay connected 85% of the time, despite a strong signal.
2. Apps take quite a bit of time to respond. The phone, however, does not seem to lag all that much. Screens respond pretty quickly and swiping is pretty smooth. Apps just take quite a bit of time to open/respond, even if still in "running" mode in the background.
3. Browser and other data requesting apps take quite a bit of time to get data, despite a strong EVDO signal or strong Wifi signal.
4. The phone's antenna seems to be weak. I can barely get a signal in my office (a one story building, sitting close to a window) and I'm in a heavily populated city. I've never had a hard time getting any less than 3 bars on any other Sprint phone in this location. Additionally, in areas where reception should be strong, I've found my phone switching between 1x and EVDO for data, and Roaming for voice.
There are other miscellaneous issues as well. I also want to stress that all of the typical troubleshooting methods have been done. I hard reset the phone last week and cleaned house, and am still seeing these issues. Prior to hard resetting, I had around 25-30 MB of free space on the phone. After the hard reset, I'm around 75 MB of free space, so that doesn't seem to be an issue. Text messages are cleared off the phone as they come in and program caches are cleared out daily. As for the signal issues, that's something I can't figure out, and neither can Sprint Tech Support, which is why I'm getting the replacement. My questions to the community are these:
1. I know that some of the issues I have listed are common among Hero users, however, does troubleshooting (clearing caches, texts, etc) solve the issues, or do they persist?
2. Has anyone had signal/data speed issues?
3. For people who have had replacement devices for issues similar to these, did the new device work better, or is this just a function of the device? One of the main reasons I ask these questions is because if this is going to continue to be an issue from device to device, there is no need to waste time continually swapping phones. I think at that point, I'll just have to wait for 2.1, hope it resolves the issues, and if not, cross that bridge at that time. I've expressed concern to the Sprint reps about receiving a refurb device. They had stated that it isn't up to them what gets shipped, however, they did advise that if a refurb was shipped, to send it back and go to a repair center to return it (in hopes that they have new phones on hand). I'm truly hoping that this is an issue with my device and not the Hero itself.

I did a few searches but couldn't find anything specific to what I'm talking about. My wife and I both got Droids the other day and love them. We are enjoying finding apps and all that stuff, but one thing I haven't been able to figure out is how we can share applications between us. Granted I dont want to illegally share apps with random people and friends, just between my wife. Not big into paying for 1 app 2 times so that we can share an experience. We both have ipod touch's, and we have always been able to share the apps with that by my 'authorizing' her ipod to match mine. She still has her email and all that, just we share a purchasing account. I imagine there is a backdoor way to copy apps and api's, but i dont want to get into that. I used to have a custom rom winmo and part of the appeal of the droid was it would do everything i want without having to crack it. I heard google was thinking about app sharing, and app2sd is in official development, but is there anything I can do now?
