My sister and her boyfriend each have their own mobiles, but they share the same land line. When someone calls me from that land line, caller ID always shows that it's my sister's boyfriend calling me, when 90% of the time it'll be my sister. Is there any way to change the default caller (in terms of caller ID) for a particular land line when a land line is shared among contacts?

I get a call with a number.
I want to add that person to my People list.
When I click on the number the dialer opens.
I don't want to call the person but add them to my list.
I'm running 2.1 on a HTC Desire and I have a wierd problem with my contacts.Prior to purchasing my Desire I used a Nokia N96, all my contacts were stored on the SIM card which I just popped into my new Desire.If I go into Phone I see all my contacts with their numbers displayed underneath, however if I go to "People" I only see the contact with no number associated with it, if I go to edit a contact it does not show any number at all.Also if I send a text from another number (which is stored in "People") the text delivers and show only the number it was sent from, it does not link to the stored contact.I copied all SIM contacts to the Phone to see if this made any difference, alas it did not!

How do I fix this as I have tried goggle and the user manual and can't seem to find it. Before I synchronized my Outlook contacts it was working fine but since adding my Outlook info I can't tell who is sending me a text or phoning unless I recognize the phone number.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just switched to the Incredible from BlackJack on AT&T. On the BJ there was a function that would allow me to toggle between hiding my phone # or having it displayed on calls to people w/ caller ID. It would read the setting from AT&T network and allow me to change it directly on my phone.
I prefer to not display my number when I make calls. However, about 20% of my calls are to fed/state/local gov buildings. In many of those cases they do not accept calls from numbers that won't display on caller ID. In those cases, I would just switch the setting.
I can't find anything on this type of capability in the Incredible documentation. According to VZ support, this can be done but only by calling support each time.
Is there a way to fix this? it will show the number for about 4 or 5 seconds before the contacts name pops up... and sometimes, the contact name wont pop up until i have already answered the call.

I have my voice mail set up but when I receive calls if I miss the call it does not go to voice mail and the caller get a message saying the number is not recognized. Does anyone know if this is a phone problem or a network problem only had this since I have had my X10.

Just switched from a PalmPre+ and am still trying to learn about ICS on my Droid4 but ran into something I can not seem to find a solution for:
I have several conference call contacts that share the same access number and I keep their unique access ID as part of the contact name so that I can type it in when prompted (once the call connects and the contact name is still visible on the dialer pad).
e.g.
"Adam's conferencee call code 12345678"
Work 1-800-555-1212
"Betty's conference call code 87654321"
Work 1-800-555-1212
"Charlie's conference call code 54637281"
Work 1-800-555-1212
however when manually choosing to dial from Betty's contact list, the android dialer ends up showing "Adam's conference 12345678".
is there a way to "disable the phone# look up when picking from the contact" which ends up displaying the first contact name it encounters in the alphabetically sorted list?
I've noticed that in the People app, the phone numbers are formatted like this: (xxx) yyyzzzz but phone numbers that are used in message fields such as "Send Message" are formatted (xxx) yyy-zzzz. Is there any way to have the phone numbers formatted using the dash? Why, you ask? Because it's easier to read when you are looking up a phone number to give to someone; and I'm old, so don't laugh at me! GMail's contacts formats them all with a dash, but I can't find a way to make the Hero do so.

People I call are telling me that they hear a phone number being dialed loudly while I speak to them, as if I am making a call while speaking to them. I've tried saving my contacts on my sim card, my phone, and my sd card, but whenever someone calls me it always shows as unknown.Is there a setting or trick to getting Caller ID for free? By the way, all my contacts were imported from my Gmail account where I have their full name, phone numbers, emails etc. Is this enough for my phone to recognize who is calling and show it?

On my old HTC HD Touch you were able to set it up the way that it will block my caller ID for anyone that is not in my contact list. I can't seem to find this option on a Desire. View 3 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago I registered for that network thing, back then I was using the HTC Hero. At first it would work, then if I turned my phone work, it would say "Sim can not be registered to this Network" and when I searched for other Networks, only Orange would appear.
When I got the Desire, I can never seem to get this to work still. Orange has terrible signal in my area although there site says its amazing. I never have network in my own home. and Im not sure I have ever saw full bars on my Desire.
So my question is, does yours work 24/7 if you have it. Does anyone else get the sim not registered thing after a reboot and how can I actually set it up properly cause I may be doing it wrong. p.s I have roaming n etc on
I have connected my HTC Desire to a samba share where I have my music, movies, etc, but I cannot make Desire play any of the mp3, movies, and I cannot see any photos either? I am using Astro File Manager.
I get no kind of error messages just a black screen with a little icon (which I don't remember right now.) Anyone got an idea of what could be wrong?
My friend just lost his Desire at an airport. The pattern lock is active, but that does nothing but protect the data on the phone - Not SD. The first thing they would do is to switch the phone off and replace the sim.
Now here is my question : Is there an app that will send an sms to a preallocated number if the phone is booted up with a different sim? I know some Samsung phones can do this. But having an app that requires your own sim to be able to find it if stolen is quite pointless.
I have a new htc desire and I want to:
1. Understand the difference between Contacts and People in the phone? What I mean by that is under the list of programs there is one called " People " if i click that I see I can add people with ( phone, email and birthdate )Yet I also see on my 2nd screen a widget called " Favourites " which says Add contacts and when I hit add contacts it already has a list of names and emails that I totally dont recall adding but I do recognize. I believe it pulled them from my gmail account, So i have deleted them in gmail as I dont need them, but is there a way to delete them all in one go in the phone?
2. What is the best way to add peoples phone numbers in the htc desire? what steps should I take
Got a Desire last week, and it's my first smartphone so am on a bit of a learning curve, but the phone does rock.
Anyway, I'm a little confused with regards to the People Widget.
I have it configured on one of my home screens and its linked to my Gmail contacts account. I have set my favourites (grouped as 'Starred in Android')
and synched the favourites to go to that group when you first set it up.
Now, the phone also has 3 duplicate contacts in the list - all of the duplicates look like they've come from Facebook, but I can't get rid of them from the list.
At first I thought that the phone was trying to synch my gmail contacts with my facebook contacts, but then it hasn't done all of my Facebook contacts that match the contacts in my Gmail.
I'm a bit confused as to how they've got in there.
I've tried resysnching Gmail and Facebook, removed the People widget and re-added it, I've checked everything in my Gmail contacts but can't see anything un-toward, I've tried having background data sync enabled and disabled whilst trying to remove these to no avail.
I still can't seem to remove these 3 duplicate entries.
I'm really interested in buying a Desire although, unlike some, I intend to buy the phone outright with no contract as I already have a contract I am happy with.However, despite people saying this phone is cheaper than the iPhone, average prices are about 400 which is about the same price you can pick up a 16gb 3Gs. So, am I missing something? Whilst here, am I correct in thinking HTC offer a 2 year Warranty? For 400 I would like at least some safety in case it breaks through no fault of my own.
