I bought a Desire through T-Mobile and have 'unlocked' it today. I was hoping by doing this I would be able to use the 'check for updates' function and get FROYO. My plan has failed - is there anyway I can get FROYO on my Desire without having to wait for T-Mobile?

The phone is the htc desire, it's unlocked but not unbranded from t-mobile and currently with o2. I got the OTA for 2.2 and didn't update it because the last time I updated it caused my WiFi to fork up meaning my first two weeks of owning a desire meant waiting for it to come back from HTC repair. Adding salt to the wound, it came back locked meaning I had to fork out another tenner to unlock again. so question! does anyone have experience of updating to 2.2 on an unlocked but branded phone (on t mobile). Will it lock the phone again?

I have unlocked my HTC desire from orange using a code from mobileunlocked.co.uk cost me �22.99 I have upgraded to 2.2 fro yo and am running software number 2.17.61.2 browser 3.1 I'd now like to debrand the phone but do not want to root as i am not into customising my phone that much. I do however want to rid it of the orange start up and the orange widgets and understand enough to know that i don't need/ want the orange excess stuff. I don't want to have to reboot and reflash my phone or find that wifi doesn't work with a custom Rom that might go wrong.
View 20 Replies View RelatedT-Mobile have finally released their HTC Sense update for the desire this morning. I've been waiting months for this. Everything seemed to go fine on the update, it auto backed up everything to the sd card and on updating all apps were displayed on the home screens as before. I have a problem now though - my internet browser keeps crashing when loading pages. It displays most of the page and reaches about 95% but then closes back to the home screen. I haven't done much to the phone other than installing apps and it generally worked before the update. Using webkit 3.1 browser and tried pages such as failblog, gizmodo and android forums. Any others with this problem?

If you brick your phone, invalidate your warranty or something else goes wrong then it's down to you. I've provided this procedure for information only. I've been asked by a couple of people for step by step instructions on how I debranded my Virgin Mobile branded HTC Desire and upgraded it to 2.2. From what I can remember I carried out these steps. I've used information collected form various threads on here and elsewhere. Use at your own risk!
It was essentially done in three steps: set up HTC Sync on my PC (Windows 7 64-bit), create the gold card and then update the firmware. You need to do a bit of preparation first - save any photos, etc that are currently on your phone onto your PC using the USB cable and the phone connected in disk drive mode. Make sure your phone is fully charged. Note down the serial number of your HTC Desire (remove battery and it's on the label or select Settings>About Phone>Phone Indentity). You'll need your serial number to download HTC Sync. Also enable USB Debugging in your HTC Desire by ticking the option under Settings > Application > Development (do this on your HTC Desire)...................
I have a weird one. If I send a text on my Motorola Cliq XT, within my preset Advance Task Killer timeout (3 minutes I believe) the phone disconnects from the network and then the SIM needs to be unlocked.
Is there an App that should be running that I need to Add to the Ignore list? It only happens after texting.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Telstra HTC Wildfire and unlocked it by code to use my 3 SIM card on it. However, after unlocking my mobile, when I choose the option "use phone for data connection when wi-fi is unavailable" it doesn't work. When i go to mobile network and network operators, I select to search for networks and the phone is automatically connected to "3Telstra(3G)". They also show 3(3G) and 3 networks, but when I try to select any of them, it says that the SIM card does not allow the connection to this network. I don't know if one thing is connected to the other, but I always used my old phone for data connection with the same SIM card.

I've tried this party apps none will work, the all call up the stock hotspot from Verizon, can it be configured for tmobile?

Issue: Switch on tethering OR mobile hotspot ->mobile network dies
I've installed Froyo on a T-Mobile branded Desire. After the update, turning on USB tethering leads to immediate loss of mobile network - it just turns itself off. Same goes for the mobile Wifi hotspot: turn on -> for 2 seconds, it's working -> mobile network drops off. Moving into airplane mode and back brings back the network, but tethering is a goner. With 2.1, USB tethering had worked. I'm on Base, a brand of e-plus. I've talked to their customer services, they say Base absolutely supports tethering.

I just had a thought that it might be unlocked so I tried Orange, Vodafone and O2 PAYG SIMs. All seem to work giving me phone service but not data. The box is marked HTC Desire A8181. When I leave my phone alone for a while and come back to unlock it, performance is often slow for 20 seconds to the point where swiping between launcher screens is sluggish. After this time it goes right back up to normal speeds.
Is this possibly related to the CPU settings in my ROM? The settings are available governors - interactive, min CPU - 245MHz, max CPU 1024 MHz. My guess is that when the phone's idle it goes down to 245MHz and takes a while to get back up to regular speeds. Am I looking in the right place and how much would increasing min CPU frequency affect my battery life?
