I have an Unlocked telus Desire on the Sasktel network I was wondering as the phone is currently running 2.1 when will the 2.2 update come? Will I have to wait for telus and if so will I get the update or not because I am now registered on Sasktel?

View 15 Replies View RelatedI just got an HTC Desire that was locked to Telus (Canadian Carrier). I have read that numerous people are using it on Rogers network. From the day I got it when I put my rogers sim card in (the right way) it said "No SIM card in phone" so I could not enter an unlock code. Thinking the SIM was defective went to Telus and tried one of their sim cards and it worked fine, then I went to Rogers thinking it was a problematic card. We tried 4 cards and none of them worked. I then went to Bell (another canadian carrier) and tried their sim card. It worked as well but said that the phone was locked. I purchased an unlock code from the internet which worked. Now the Bell sim card works as well becuase the phone is unlocked. I put my Rogers SIM back into it and it still sais "No SIM card in phone". I also tried a SIM from a european company and it did not work as well. This HTC Desire works on the same 3G 850/1900 GSM that Rogers uses.

So I own a Telus unlocked Milestone running on Bell, my home page is google.com, I can got to telus site but almost every link I find that is on Rogers, it takes me to that bell site? I found one link that actually brought up the rogers page but as soon as I try to follow another page on that link same thing?

And it would seem most of the benefits of rooting were addressed in the update but I am interested in overclocking, better apps and partitioning. Seems like even with the update I still can't move all my apps to my SD card as I thought I might be able to and I've been told that is the dev's problem and not Google but with rooting can more be moved to my SD?

Which Android 2.1 update will I need? Generic, Orange or the new network provider? If it is the generic one will this also have the benefit of unbranding the phone and getting rid of Orange apps? If it is the Orange upgrade will the phone become locked to their network again and require unlocking again?I need the phone to stay unlocked for the future.

I just had a thought that it might be unlocked so I tried Orange, Vodafone and O2 PAYG SIMs. All seem to work giving me phone service but not data. The box is marked HTC Desire A8181. I got the OTA for 2.2 and didn't update it because the last time I updated it caused my WiFi to fork up meaning my first two weeks of owning a desire meant waiting for it to come back from HTC repair. Adding salt to the wound, it came back locked meaning I had to fork out another tenner to unlock again. so question! does anyone have experience of updating to 2.2 on an unlocked but branded phone (on t mobile). I have unlocked my HTC desire from orange using a code from mobileunlocked.co.uk cost me �22.99 I have upgraded to 2.2 fro yo and am running software number 2.17.61.2 browser 3.1 I'd now like to debrand the phone but do not want to root as i am not into customising my phone that much. I do however want to rid it of the orange start up and the orange widgets and understand enough to know that i don't need/ want the orange excess stuff. I don't want to have to reboot and reflash my phone or find that wifi doesn't work with a custom Rom that might go wrong.

When I leave my phone alone for a while and come back to unlock it, performance is often slow for 20 seconds to the point where swiping between launcher screens is sluggish. After this time it goes right back up to normal speeds.
Is this possibly related to the CPU settings in my ROM? The settings are available governors - interactive, min CPU - 245MHz, max CPU 1024 MHz. My guess is that when the phone's idle it goes down to 245MHz and takes a while to get back up to regular speeds. Am I looking in the right place and how much would increasing min CPU frequency affect my battery life?
I have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.
The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".
Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?
