I recently installed FroYo on my Motorola Droid and most everything seems to be working except I can't seem to use the mobile hotspot app I've been hearing so much about. I don't know where it is. How do I use it? Can someone lend me a hand?

One of the main reasons I rooted (which I finally got to work, by the way), was so I could tether my phone to my computer as a WiFi hotspot without additional charges. What are you guys doing for this? I'm using BBv.04

They claimed it's for technical reasons.Since everyone on the technical community agrees that it is not true, is there something we can do to catch the attention of Verizon and convince them to enable those features?A mass email? View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got an HTC Desire which has a Mobile Hotspot App on it - so I can connect my laptop to the WiFi signal generated by my phone.I have "Unlimited Internet" with a fair-usage cap of 1GB. (such a farce, that use of the word unlimited, why don't they just say 1GB?)However, the terms and conditions explicitly disallow using the phone as a modem.My question is, can they tell, and if so, how? Surely the HTTP/HTTPS requests being sent out by the phone are exactly the same, regardless of whether it's coming from the phone or the laptop?If they aren't (perhaps some ID which says this is a phone as apposed to a different ID which will be sent by the laptop's browser), is there a way to make it look as if the requests being sent are coming from the phone?

1) how do I know if it is rooted and ready to go?
2) how to I make changes, like allow mobile hot spot and cool stuff like that?I wont even get into how I can add froyo, simple things first
I bought a droid x, and about 5 days after, i got a red dot, about the size of a pin head (i am assuming a pixel or something) that was REALLY bright, and stayed present no matter what wallpaper i had up, or anything like that. so i exchanged it, and the same thing happened, just in a different spot on the screen and the dot was green, this one lasted almost two weeks, SO i went back in and exchanged it, and again, same issue, different location and the dot was blue. this dot was not right in the middle of the screen ever, but it was fairly close to it, and literally the size of a needle point, smaller than .7mm pencil lead, but it was REALLY bright and stood out over everything and i found it annoying and couldnt deal with it.

I got my girlfriend to try to access the internet with her laptop via my Droid X's connection and she was able to do it.My question is, how can I dictate who is and who isn't allowed to use my connection. Say I'm tethering wirelessly and someone I don't know wants to use the connection as well. How can I disable them from doing so while still being capable myself?

View 3 Replies View RelatedT-Mobile have finally released their HTC Sense update for the desire this morning. I've been waiting months for this. Everything seemed to go fine on the update, it auto backed up everything to the sd card and on updating all apps were displayed on the home screens as before. I have a problem now though - my internet browser keeps crashing when loading pages. It displays most of the page and reaches about 95% but then closes back to the home screen. I haven't done much to the phone other than installing apps and it generally worked before the update. Using webkit 3.1 browser and tried pages such as failblog, gizmodo and android forums. Any others with this problem?

If you brick your phone, invalidate your warranty or something else goes wrong then it's down to you. I've provided this procedure for information only. I've been asked by a couple of people for step by step instructions on how I debranded my Virgin Mobile branded HTC Desire and upgraded it to 2.2. From what I can remember I carried out these steps. I've used information collected form various threads on here and elsewhere. Use at your own risk!
It was essentially done in three steps: set up HTC Sync on my PC (Windows 7 64-bit), create the gold card and then update the firmware. You need to do a bit of preparation first - save any photos, etc that are currently on your phone onto your PC using the USB cable and the phone connected in disk drive mode. Make sure your phone is fully charged. Note down the serial number of your HTC Desire (remove battery and it's on the label or select Settings>About Phone>Phone Indentity). You'll need your serial number to download HTC Sync. Also enable USB Debugging in your HTC Desire by ticking the option under Settings > Application > Development (do this on your HTC Desire)...................

View 2 Replies View RelatedPer engadget, Android phones and their eternal struggle to get the latest version update, it's a book that needs to be written. It was only last night that we were hearing that the Froyo upgrade for Spanish Galaxy S users would be pushed back till late October, yet today our emotions are swung back the other way by news of T-Mobile promising the exact same update by the end of this month. If our solar calendars are accurate, that means there'll be no more than a 10-day wait left for T-Mo customers using this 4-incher. We'll bug the other networks as well to see whether their 2.2 updates are in the mail or still lost somewhere in the frozen isle.

When I enter Kies and try to do an update it says that I already have the latest version. I checked and mine is Eclair 2.1 . was wondering if anybody know if WIND have the release of froyo 2.2 available on their network. I am moving my number to TIM mobile operator tomorrow anyway. Maybe some ideeas on that? I would really really like to upgrade as I have heard that Froyo really works alot better on sgs . Really now but for a phone that I have paied 550 euros I expect no lag and better start time of apps...and well alot of stuff. If that doesn't happent I'll just ask for my money back and go for the Iphone 4. not really what I want but my Iphone 3gs was performing better than this newer faster ( 1ghz..and 512 ram ) Samsung Galaxy S. SO PLEASE do cooment and let me know about what you think.

Now with Froyo sporting its own Bluetooth voice dialer, does anyone know if there's a way to switch to it? I am running 2.2. My biggest issue with the Motorola bluetooth voice dialer is that'll take up to 30 seconds from the time I press the dial button on my bluetooth device till it'll be ready for me to say a command. Totally unacceptable! Is my only option to go to a custom ROM?
