Jul 10, 2010
I have figured out how to create a folder on my homescreen but for the life of me can't figure how to change the name of the folder or how to add shortcuts to different programs into a folder.

If I go to the Gallery I get Camera Shots, All Photos, and All Videos. How can I create a new gallery folder to be visible here so that I can classify my pictures more easily. I tried creating a new folder on the SD card within DCIM100Media and using an app that rescanned the SD card but no luck.

I just got this phone yesterday, so this maybe a really stupid question, but when I plug the Hero into the computer via USB, there is an DCIM file for photos, but when I create a new folder (with my computer) in this folder, it does not appear in the phone's album application.

I'm currently only testing things in an emulator due to not having an Android device as of yet. I'm honestly holding out for some of the new 1 Ghz machines to come out and do some comparisons. Anyway, I would imagine one would easily be able to make whatever folders they choose on an sd card, but on the emulated one, I can only seem to push entire folder contents or single files to the root. The adb help doesn't appear to have a command to make a folder. Is this not possible, or am I just missing something?

so I am using Nova launcher and minimalistic text widget and I am making a theme where there are big blocks of clickable text. One of the things I would like to do is to open a app folder when i click on one of the text blocks. I was thinking I could just make a transparent widget or something above minimalistic text widget because it does not look like there is a way to do that with the app. Is there a way to resize folders with nova launcher? am I better off just using something like Simi folder and setting a big name for the folder and no icon or something?

I'm trying to customize the contact icons in the app 'Folder Organizer' and seem to be having trouble. Is it even possible to create contact icons in that app? I don't want to see the default blue & white icons, but either the Facebook icons in my address book or simply ones I choose myself.

There is an option to create an Android JUnit Project. As far as I am aware the other way is to create a folder in the same project called test which contains the same package name as the existing project. What are the differences between these two methods.

Is there something like a FileDialog available? From previous threads, it appears there isn't one.
If not, has someone written one?
I want to allow a user to
a) Specify a folder/filename on storage for creating an SQLite database.
b) Specify an existing file/folder on storage card for opening as an SQLite Database.

Just moved from an old WM device and separate mobile phone 'combination' to a single HTC Desire to 'do it all'. Pretty pleased so far but still searching (and finding) my way around things. One thing I was wondering about but didn't find an answer to is if you can't set anything so that your mobile operator name shows up in the home screen (just like with a phone). I'm traveling quite often for work and know from experience that one operator is often better in coverage or options than another one - so it would help if I can see the operator that is selected. I know that I can dig into the menus or status bar to see the operator but didn't find a way to show it 'always on' on the home screen.

I've experienced a strange issue running applications on the HTC Desire.
When I call getApplicationContext().getCacheDir() or getApplicationContext().getFilesDir() from my activity this always returns null. In the emulator /data/data/com.myapp.android/cache respectively /data/data/com.myapp.android/files is returned.
Because of that I'm not able to use the webview class as it tries to create cache files and crashes with a null pointer exception. The logs:
CODE:..............
I noticed that other apps have issues as well. For example the google finance app logs the following message:
CODE:.............
Why I cannot create folders in this directory?
Is there a possibility to set the fileDir and cacheDir paths to the sd card or somewhere else? I looked at some classes like Context, Webview and CacheManager but I could not find a way to change it.
Do I need to set a permission to create cache files?
