HTC Desire :: Can't Install ROM's
Sep 6, 2010
So with difficulty I eventually managed to root my HTC Desire on 02 (Ireland) - it runs 2.1 but I want to try a new rom, specifically Froyo Sense from LeeDr0id: [FroYo Sense] LeeDrOiD V2.0 (30/08 l Official 2.2 l FAST l STABLE l OPTIONAL A2SD+) - xda-developers
I downloaded ROM Manager and bought the premium version. I backed up my contacts with HTC Sync, and I have made a backup of my current setup to the SD Card. I then tried installing a new ROM with ROM manager, but it just does not work. It just restarts the phone. Sometimes it would go into a boot loop. I tried two differnt ROM's (Mocado and Pays rom) and I would get the customised ROM welcome screen but it would just loop at that screen. I would have to pull the battery and wipe, then restore to my primary backup.
I did manage to get one rom installed, and that was when I downloaded Pinky from within ROM Manger and it installed. But I did not like Pinky - none of the others within the downloader look any good really.
I even tried booting into recovery mode, restoring to factory settings, then boot to recovery, install from SD and try install the rom there. It seems to take about 10 seconds to install/extract, tells me to restart, looks like its extracting, but then I just get my normal 2.1

Is it possible to install a unbranded version of 2.1 then run the OTA update to install stock 2.2? I'm not entirely confident when I install something I have little knowledge about, especially when it has somebody elses name all over it.

My Desire is 1 week old and came with 2.2 preloaded. It is an unlocked unbranded handset from Carphone Warehouse. Yesterday my phone displayed a message that there is an update available. I decided to check it out before jumping in with both feet. I currently have software version 2.09.405.8, so I assume this update will give me 2.10.405.2? If so, I have read here that there are a few problems with the update, specifically with wifi. I have also read elsewhere that HTC withdrew the update until this was fixed.
Some of the solutions talk about manual installation and a gold card, whatever that is!
Have HTC fixed the wifi problem? Is it now safe for me to install the update OTA? Or should I wait? I really don't want my phone being messed up and having to fiddle around with gold cards or whatever.

I installed unrEVOked3. It says it was successful. I downloaded ROM manager,busybox, and Titanium Backup. Busybox says my phone is rooted. I have a USCC american HTC Desire. I tried to Install Defrost 5.7 when I try to install in it looks like all is well, then it goes to a white screen with green HTC logo. I then have to do a battery pull and restore to get back to my phone being usable. I am getting a list of saved backups because I have been trying repeatedly.

I'd like to install rooted 2.2 on my Desire as per Lekky's guide, but there's a problem with BusyBox - it doesn't currently work with the Desire. As most of the root apps seem to need BusyBox to run (including Titanium), should I just wait for a fixed version of BusyBox before trying to upgrade to 2.2, or using any other rom for that matter? Is there an alternative method I could use? Also, my Desire is on 3UK network. Do I need to use a goldcard to upgrade to 2.2/ install another rom? I'm not clear on this bit.

I wonder if someone could help me. I'm registered blind and I sometime stuggle to read really small text and only certain apps work with pinch to zoom.I went into the Settings > Accessibility but there is nothing in there except for a greyed out Accessibility option which I can't select.I'm assuming I need to install accessibily apps for them to show up here but I haven't a clue what ones I need or where to get them. Can anyone help me?What I'm after is something like the 3 finger tap on the iPhone/iPod Touch which zooms in no matter what I'm looking at.

What is the best way for restoring apps after a ROM install. Currently I am using Defrost but it updates that often I try to keep up. I have got into the practice of making a backup using ROM manager then doing a full cache and data wipe before installing the new ROM.
I have been letting the phone do its own thing and eventually the apps seem to restore themselves eventually, but is there a quicker way to restore them after a full wipe.

my Desire is rooted with T-Mod, but i'm looking to update from the standard 2GB(i know right?) to the biggest I can possibly find. The only thing is I'm worried about the fact that this card has been partitioned when I rooted it, am I going to have to start from scratch and re-root? Or do I just partition the new one, install the ROM on the partition (? I don't really know what I'm talking about with this), and then transfer everything over once that's done?
I was looking at classes.. I've seen class 10 SD cards but can only seem to find up to class 6 in 16GB microSD and up to class 4 in 32GB microSD... I don't think i'll need 32GB, I was only getting it because I might decide to, I don't know, listen to my entire music collection without coming home in between? I guess I was just getting 32gb because I'm kind of into "Do it once, do it right." But if it's going to slow my phone down I'll just go for a 16gb...
