HTC Desire :: Android Browser Doesn't Delete Gmail Mail
Nov 14, 2010
I'm finding the 2.2 browser doesn't delete mail or archive from Gmail when I'm using it. Although the mail disappears from the list while I'm using the Android browser, when I connect to Gmail on my computer all the mail I thought I had deleted is still there. Anyone else having this problem? Using HTC Desire.

Hey there, I have a Wildfire and basically Im a gmail user (as in, my email service is primarily provided by google and had been since it launched).
But I hate the gmail app on the wildfire running android, and really like the mail app.
Problem is, Gmail is currently syncd to both and so if Im not at the phone when I recieve a message notification I will recieve two notifications for the same message (one from gmail, one from mail), and then can view it in both apps. in a nutshell, I want to be synced to gmail, using the mail app, and I need to know how to turn off the gmail app, without losing any syncing etc.

I am using Gmail. When I receive an e-mail, I get the same e-mail twice one in the HTC mail box and the other in the Google mail box. I have tried to delete the HTC mail but it will not allow me. If I go to manage applications and choose HTC mail, I can choose forced stop which temporarily stops the double e-mail. It will always revert back however to receving e-mails. Is there a way to permanently stop HTC mail or delete it permanently?

I used Google Domains / Apps for my mail..so instead of @gmail, I have mine @absolutebica.com.however, when I send a test email to my account...it never shows up automatically. I am finding I have to physically go into my settings, data synronization, and manually sync my mail for anything new to show up.Whats up? Is there a specific time limit set somewhere for when it checks for new mail?

For some reason lately if I delete or show a email as read it doesn't sync that to my online gmail. There has been times when it shows 4 unread emails on the phone (even though everything is read) and when I log into gmail it shows the 4 unread emails even if it was ones I deleted. I tried clearing data from settings>Applications>manage applications>gmail. I have tried refreshing it and manually syncing it and it

Connected to 3G, everything else works fine (Twitter, Facebook, IM services). I have full signal bars, but every site I try to browse gives me a "Gateway Timed Out" Error (504). Browsing works fine on WiFi, but it just doesn't work on 3G and I can't figure out why. Anyone experiencing the same problem/got a solution?

Does this just check for messages whenever you are connected to 3G/Wireless? Or are there some settings to tell it how often to check?

Awaiting my replacement for my Desire after first one returned due to faulty speaker. Hope to get my replacement in next 2 days.Meanwhile, as I use Microsoft Outlook 2007 on my PC to access my emails from my domain mail account (POP3) most of the time, I was previously unsure how best to configure/sync my emails on my Desire. From other recommendations on this forum, I reached the conclusion it was best to configure my GMail account to also pull in mail from my domain POP3 account, and then just check my mail via GMail on the Desire. However, when I get my new phone, I am now wondering what is the BEST way to actually configure GMail on the HTC Desire?
On the wizard that appears when you first start up the phone, it asks you to enter your email account settings. I could enter the settings for my GMail account there, and I assume it would then check/use my Gmail account via the Desire's own main email app.Is it better for any reason to just bypass the settings for the Desire's main mail app, and instead just configure and access my GMail via the Desire's own GMAil app? AND if choose the latter option, will the phone's email notification system still automatically alert me to new emails, or do I need to reconfigure something to make it do that?AND Will the phone's standard email/messages shortcut option automatically link to the GMail app, and if not, is there a way to force it to link to that?I'd appreciate recommendations for best way to proceed with this as it may save me setting it up one way and then deciding after some time that I'm better using a different method!

I just got my Captivate the other day and I was wondering if there are any good e-mail apps for gmail, yahoo mail, and hotmail? I've tried each and the stock but either it won't let me add multiple accounts or it doesn't receive the emails even though there are new ones in my inbox when I check it.

I want to send an e-mail, and so I use the typical intent --
CODE:...........................
When I do this, the chooser comes up and gives all kinds of choices, for anything that can handle text/plain i assume, because there's stuff in there that doesn't support "e-mail". How can I make it so that it will only show applications that support email (gmail, mail, yahoo mail, etc...) and not stuff like "Bluetooth", "Facebook", etc...

Any word on if Google plans to open up the e-mail app that gmail uses for other e-mail accounts (hotmail, yahoo, etc). I don't want to forward my mail to gmail nor do I want to switch everything over. I would just like the functionality of the gmail app that came on the phone for other e-mail accounts as well.Anyone know of any updates coming that might address this?

I need an e-mail application that sends all e-mails to my phone, but doesn't read them on the server (unless I actually read them).I have to check my parents e-mail on-the-go, so when I sync it to my phone, all the e-mails are recieved very well. However, right as the phone gets the e-mails, it reads them on the server without me even touching the e-mails (which gets very annoying to my parents). Is there anyway to make it so that when my phone pulls the e-mails that it doesn't read them on the server?I have the Samsung Moment, and the e-mail server is Yahoo. I've tried both K-9 and the default e-mail app, but niether have let me have this setting (as far as I'm aware).

My environment is:
1 Exchange Account - Push
1 IMAP (Gmail) - 2 hourly
1 POP (Hotmail) - Once daily
My issue is that I am receiving alerts for the same new mail repeatedly. Here's the gist:
11:50 - New mail hits my inbox.
12:00 - I receive a notification of the new email.
12:05 - I check my inbox, but choose not to open the email at this time.
14:00 - I get a notification of a 'new' email, yet on checking it's the one received at 11:50, but still haven't opened.
15:00 - Rinse and repeat. Now, I'm not sure how many times this is happening, or even if it's everytime, but there's something definitely glitchy with mail notifications.Has anybody else noticed similar behaviour? If not I may try removing/adding my accounts back in again.

I've now tried downloading K9 Mail twice and had the same problem. I use a lot of Gmail filters to move mail that I don't need to respond to (listservs, etc.) past my inbox. My inbox usually has <10 messages that I need to act on. So the mail I actually want to browse while standing around, say, on the subway platform, is in All Mail.I would like to get All Mail pushed to my phone so I can browse it whenever. I only need the top 25-50 messages at a time. On the Blackberry, I used to have push set up for my Gmail account so obviously I saw what's in All Mail. Periodically I purged the stored messages older than a week. You'd think that K9 Mail would do this perfectly. But both times I've tried to install it, it appears to be trying to download all ~30,000 messages in All Mail in my Gmail account. So I uninstall in a panic! Is there something I'm not getting about the settings? I tried setting it to "fetch 25 messages" in the push/poll settings for that account... so why is it fetching thousands?

I am new to the Android platform, getting my Droid X yesterday. I had no trouble setting up four mailboxes, and am sending and receiving mail seamlessly. There is one bizarre thing: if I read a message on my phone, the IMAP client sets the flag on the server as 'read', but if I delete the message on the Droid it is left on the server (and all my other IMAP clients.) Has anyone noticed this? I can't find a setting that would effect this behavior.I update my mail every 15 minutes, but the problem persists even after a manual refresh.

She's annoyed that she cannot delete her Verizon e-mails from the server.. She still needs to actually log onto her account at home and delete the e-mails a second time. I've checked her settings, though was unable to locate a "delete from server".

Coming from a blackberry and just switched to the Evo. One of the options available for emails was "Delete on Handheld". This would allow me to remove it from the message list on my handheld, and not on the server (allowing for follow-up later, or typing a quick response and deleting the message, but still having it around for reference if I needed it).

I have an HTC Droid Eris, and am curious about the different email apps that came pre-installed. What exactly is the difference between the Mail app and the Gmail app (other than the obvious fact that Gmail only caters to Gmail accounts)? The only email account I use is a Gmail one - is there an advantage to using one over the other for me? I also noticed that the Mail app starts automatically, even if for now I'm not using it at all.
