Apr 15, 2010Does this just check for messages whenever you are connected to 3G/Wireless? Or are there some settings to tell it how often to check?

HTC Desire :: Best Via Gmail App Or Via Main Mail Config?
Sep 22, 2010Awaiting my replacement for my Desire after first one returned due to faulty speaker. Hope to get my replacement in next 2 days.Meanwhile, as I use Microsoft Outlook 2007 on my PC to access my emails from my domain mail account (POP3) most of the time, I was previously unsure how best to configure/sync my emails on my Desire. From other recommendations on this forum, I reached the conclusion it was best to configure my GMail account to also pull in mail from my domain POP3 account, and then just check my mail via GMail on the Desire. However, when I get my new phone, I am now wondering what is the BEST way to actually configure GMail on the HTC Desire?
On the wizard that appears when you first start up the phone, it asks you to enter your email account settings. I could enter the settings for my GMail account there, and I assume it would then check/use my Gmail account via the Desire's own main email app.Is it better for any reason to just bypass the settings for the Desire's main mail app, and instead just configure and access my GMail via the Desire's own GMAil app? AND if choose the latter option, will the phone's email notification system still automatically alert me to new emails, or do I need to reconfigure something to make it do that?AND Will the phone's standard email/messages shortcut option automatically link to the GMail app, and if not, is there a way to force it to link to that?I'd appreciate recommendations for best way to proceed with this as it may save me setting it up one way and then deciding after some time that I'm better using a different method!

Nov 14, 2010I'm finding the 2.2 browser doesn't delete mail or archive from Gmail when I'm using it. Although the mail disappears from the list while I'm using the Android browser, when I connect to Gmail on my computer all the mail I thought I had deleted is still there. Anyone else having this problem? Using HTC Desire.

Jan 28, 2010for some reason i can't seem to set up my personal yahoo email account. i keep getting an error saying i'm not authenticated? i just logged in with this pc and didn't have any problems. i was trying to set it up using the mail widget google /gmail worked just fine with their widget are they trying to just force me to use gmail only anyone have any similar problems and/or tips to get it set up. i would like to move to one email account but you know how it is, you get on, you get another, people have the old address guess i could forward yahoo to gmail.

When I do this, the chooser comes up and gives all kinds of choices, for anything that can handle text/plain i assume, because there's stuff in there that doesn't support "e-mail". How can I make it so that it will only show applications that support email (gmail, mail, yahoo mail, etc...) and not stuff like "Bluetooth", "Facebook", etc...

I don't want to forward my mail to gmail nor do I want to switch everything over. When I use the program "mail" on my Eris and input my email and password it automatically uses an imap server. I notice that on the imap server I cannot use WiFi to check my email. When I use the Yahoo mail as a pop server it works perect on WiFi. I don't understand the difference. Which is better imap or pop?

May 21, 2010I'm pretty sure I saw a thread about this before, but couldn't find it once I actually needed it. Anyways, I'm having trouble with getting my notification for my email to go away. It's not a problem with gmail, but the mail app. The notification disappears from the notification bar once I check my email, but the "1" stays in the icon for the mail app even after I've deleted it. I've checked all my folders, inbox, drafts, sent, etc. and there's nothing in any of them. Any fixing?

Nov 6, 2009So it's almost bed time here on the east coast... It's interesting enough to hear the "Droid..." notification (changeable, I know) every time a FB friend posts, I get a TXT or an e-mail. Problem is, I don't want to receive these at 3 in the morninig, nor do I want to turn off my sounds in case of a call or TXT that *is* important.
Any way to tell the Droid exactly when I want it to check facebook and e-mail? Old LG 10000 allowed you to set the times it checked for e-mail.
HTC Desire HD :: E-mail Notifications / Receiving Alerts For Mail Repeatedly
Nov 9, 2010My environment is:
1 Exchange Account - Push
1 IMAP (Gmail) - 2 hourly
1 POP (Hotmail) - Once daily
My issue is that I am receiving alerts for the same new mail repeatedly. Here's the gist:
11:50 - New mail hits my inbox.
12:00 - I receive a notification of the new email.
12:05 - I check my inbox, but choose not to open the email at this time.
14:00 - I get a notification of a 'new' email, yet on checking it's the one received at 11:50, but still haven't opened.
15:00 - Rinse and repeat. Now, I'm not sure how many times this is happening, or even if it's everytime, but there's something definitely glitchy with mail notifications.Has anybody else noticed similar behaviour? If not I may try removing/adding my accounts back in again.

I have all of the sync options turned on and my phone still struggles to sync my gmail. This is getting quite frustrating. Anyone else having the same issues? I know a lot of people have talked about the market issues, but I haven't heard anything about anyone else having the same problems with their gmail.

May 18, 2010I've now tried downloading K9 Mail twice and had the same problem. I use a lot of Gmail filters to move mail that I don't need to respond to (listservs, etc.) past my inbox. My inbox usually has <10 messages that I need to act on. So the mail I actually want to browse while standing around, say, on the subway platform, is in All Mail.I would like to get All Mail pushed to my phone so I can browse it whenever. I only need the top 25-50 messages at a time. On the Blackberry, I used to have push set up for my Gmail account so obviously I saw what's in All Mail. Periodically I purged the stored messages older than a week.You'd think that K9 Mail would do this perfectly. But both times I've tried to install it, it appears to be trying to download all ~30,000 messages in All Mail in my Gmail account. So I uninstall in a panic! Is there something I'm not getting about the settings? I tried setting it to "fetch 25 messages" in the push/poll settings for that account... so why is it fetching thousands?

Sep 3, 2010I have the HTC Mail widget on my homescreen. Is there any way to have the phone open messages with the Gmail App when I select them rather than opening with the HTC Mail App? For example, I also have the HTC Messages widget on my homescreen. When I select a message from that widget, the phone opens the message in the Handcent SMS app that I downloaded. When I first downloaded Handcent, the phone asked what program should be used as the default for messaging. I never got a prompt like that for email.

1. Is there a way to Remove the GMail and Mail App altogether *Without breaking anything*? If I recall, I didn't think there was a way without breaking sync support for calendar and contacts.
2. If the above cannot be done, is there a way to keep the GMail app from actually syncing your mail, and removing any mail that it was already sync up? I've already disabled syncing in account settings.
I installed K9 mail, and rather use that, so that ALL my e-mail is uniform.

My issue is that I have other people who access the accounts as well (from desktop computers), and I need to be notified when they send emails. So what I can't find is how to get notifications of sent mails from my own accounts.I had this on my blackberry curve, where I would be notified of that.

All worked fine for a few days but now I notice that I get no notification of any type for new mail unless I manually press the sync button.I thought that the gmail was a push like SMS and as soon as new mail arrives it notifies me (yes notifications are on).I just tested it by sending an email from my work address to gmail. Nothing on the phone but it does show if I log in via a regular computer.
