View 4 RepliesI read somewhere that rooted phones can use the mobile hotspot feature that most come with, without Verizon knowing about it. I've also however heard that sometimes it still gets back to the carrier and they cancel your service. I've been using my tethering in very small doses because I'm not sure if big red is monitoring me. If they aren't I want to take full advantage of the tethering feature.

and again... " WIFI " tether, not USB tether.
How to use watch movies using Google play on rooted android phones.
1) Download app called ota rootkeeper from the android marketplace.
2) Open app and protect root.
3) Click "temp unroot".
4) When done watching movie go to ota rootkeeper and restore root.
Every time you want to use Google play you must do this.
I have a rooted Acer Liquid MT and I want to know if I can get other phone launchers installed onto my phone, for example the Samsung Galaxy S2 default launcher installed on my phone.

1) Is it more important now to have a "pattern-protected" lock screen?
2) Do I need to create a unique password for SU access?
3) Do I need to be more concerned malware or data swiping from market apps?
I love my recently rooted Droid but assume that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Is my assumption correct, or do I need not be concerned?
I did a search but came up empty. Is there an app for un-rooted phones that will allow you to turn the phone off without using the power button? I know i will have to use the button to turn it back on.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWill people smarter than me be able to create an exact replica of the HTC rom that suitable for flashing onto phones that boot the recovery image, so it retains the recovery image? (and thus keeping open the possibility of moving a any future homebrew 2.2 images etc). ill people smarter than me be able to extract the radio firmware for updating?Whilst i'm reasonably happy with the current hacked firmwares, they are all quite buggy in places, and would love to pickup something that is IDENTICAL to stock, aside from giving me root and the ability to change again in the future...

Just picked up the EVO 4G and looking to root in order to remove the Sprint apps and other bloatware (Peep, Footprints, etc.). I'm just trying to find out if it will be possible to use OTA Sprint firmware updates (i.e. the inevitable 2.2 down the road) once the phone is rooted, and if so, will it reset the phone (delete all data) or merely revoke root access? Down the line, I'm not so concerned about having root access, mostly right now with removing the excess.

For non-free, un-protected apps (are there any?), can they be purchased directly and installed on the phone without going through the market?

I have a GS3 for work and a LG Optimus G Pro for my personal. I'd love to just carry 1 phone. I found an app to forward text messages, I know I can forward calls, so all incoming communication works great.
Out going I use MightyText for send text messages from my computer. But is there a way to spoof my caller id of my other phone? For example my work phone? So that I can place calls from my personal as my work number?
We have 4 android phones at our house (2 HTC Wildfires and 2 HTC Arias). All four phones have been working flawlessly with the home wifi. Until today. For no reason at all, none of the phones will connect to the wifi. Nothing has changed. The phones have not been updated, the we haven't touched the router or the modem. Just to double check that the password hadn't been hacked, I fired up my laptop, and it's working great. The phones will "see" the signal, and report that it's excellent, they just won't connect.
I've tried battery pulls, recycling the wifi setting on the phones, resetting the router, changing the security type, double and triple checking passwords, and the only thing that would allow them to connect was to remove all security from my router and make it an open network. They connected to that just fine, but it's not something I'm comfortable leaving.
Being someone who started my smartphone journey way back with blackberry, I grew quite fond of the indicator lights on the phone to notify you of an email etc. So naturally after switching to ATT last year and getting my note, I was quite disappointed it didn't have one. Someone said this was an ATT thing and not a note thing. Is there a reason why ATT phones don't use the indicator light?
