My bro just updated to 2.3.4 on his Atrix, same as me. Now when he gets a call or text, it only shows the number and not the name. These are regular contacts already set up in his contacts list. I haven't been able to figure it out as it works fine on mine.

Contact names get changed when linked with another and so my contacts look ridiculous. as a example, When I have a contact named "Roy (company)" and same person has the skype name "roy1985", when I linked both its just "roy1985" is appear on my contacts. is there any way to link them and have the name I assigned ("Roy(company)") to be in my contacts app?

After facebook syncing on ICS, they now appear as two contacts in the People app. Is there a way to work around this, aside from changing my gmail contact name?

I know there have been sporadic complaints of random things happening (or not happening) since the update this week. So far, I myself haven't had any complaints, but I just noticed that if I get a call WHILE I'm on a call, only the phone number of the new caller shows up, and none of their contact info. I remember the phone showing me everything before, i.e. name/caller ID photo etc. Is anyone else having this problem or find a way to fix it? I don't think I've reset it by turning it off and pulling the battery yet, not that I know that would do any good, and I'm not doing a factory reset. I've got a ton of apps I'd rather not lose.
View 21 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded the new updated version (complete with adverts)of Handcent to try it out as I hearing such glowing comments on it. When I open the programme I see all the threads but all I have is the mobile numbers and No Contact names associated with them.
Could someone kindly tell me what I have to do to get the names up please. I have been looking through the settings but cant see anything, do I need to make sure the stock messaging app is unticked first to get the names to appear?
After linking all my contacts between previous phone, Google and facebook i go to the linked section of a contact and choose which display name I want to use then hit save. Eventually the phone switches the name back to whatever it feels like. Is anybody else experiencing this issue?

So I save every name and back out. When I turn off my phone later that night, than turn it on the next morning, the contacts have gone back to their original state (like Bob A.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was setting up some photos for the Photo Caller ID function for incoming calls and was rather disappointed at the quality of the image that comes up. I either add an image to the contact in the People app or I go to the gallery and chose to "Set as" a contact icon. The picture pops up and you are given a little square crop/zoom tool to chose the portion of the picture that you want as you icon/photo caller ID. When I stretch the square OUT as big as possible to crop and then set the image with the contact, the caller ID image that comes up is good. However, any cropping/zooming is significantly Degrades/Pixelates the image that is chosen.
I'm not using the FULL 8MB resolution (set to 5MP) for the camera and I know if you crop and zoom any image, the more you zoom the worse the quality of the picture, But the 5MP shots I have should be MORE THAN sufficient to produce a little square of a photo caller ID. I had photo caller ID that popped up on my Palm Centro with photos was cropped to 320 x 320 and saved with LOW resolution and those photos were very clear. Even with the crop and zoom that is required to produce the contact/photo caller ID image, the 5MP photos I am using should be more than sufficient to produce a clear image. Is there a fix/trick for the quality to improve? Here we have this big beautiful screen and you crop a nice-sized 5MP picture for a tiny square caller ID photo and the quality is horrible.
Does anyone know why some contact pictures are blurry when they show up on caller i.d. and some aren't? Some of the pictures that are blurry are from facebook and from my pictures album. Although, not all facebook contacts come in blurry. some are perfect? This may sound like a small problem but an annoying one! Does anyone know why are how to fix this?

Is there any way to display contact picker that has both number and contact name? Now I'm calling picker: startActivityForResult(new Intent Intent.ACTION_PICK,Contacts.Phones.CONTENT_URI),1);
But in a result I get only Contact names without visible numbers. To make things worse, if one contact has two numbers it occurs twice.
After having installed to try Handsent and Chomp, can anyone tell why I only have the phone numbers and not names of my contacts with their Text messages unlike the Stock App which displays the names?

For some reason, a bunch of my contacts are showing up as their Twitter names, and I'd rather have it be their real name, which I have listed under their Google accounts (for example, GreenMike vs. Mike Green). I even unlinked my Twitter account, but the names stayed the same. Similarly, is there a way to set it so the contact pictures are Google account pictures by default?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen using the smart search function of the dialer or searching in contacts my Magic only searches numbers and names, not company names.I have hundreds of contacts that are just companies (airlines, couriers, etc. etc.) with no specific contacts at that company.Those contacts are effectively inaccessible on my phone now as the only way to find them is to scroll through the hundreds of blank contacts to find what I am looking for.When I synchronized contacts with my HTC magic, any contact with a company name, but nothing in the 'Name' field had the word 'unnamed' added to the name field.The only work around I can see is to use Outlook to manually add the company name to each of these contacts and then change the 'File As' field to read the company name.

I enjoyed the Facebook syncing on 1.5, but I don't really have any interest in bringing over my Facebook contact photos as caller ID pictures (it's annoying when someone posts a picture of a car, for example, as their default picture -- my friend is not a Toyota). I do like seeing status updates in my People app and having access to a unified "updates" panel in People.
I've gone into the "link" settings and changed the photo manually to the Google Contacts photo that I specified, and that works fantastically -- until Facebook for HTC Sense does its hourly sync and overwrites that preference with the contact's default Facebook picture AGAIN.
I've tried syncing, un-syncing, removing the sync option, etc. in the past 2 leaks and this problem remains. Am I missing something or is this just another annoying beta bug that HOPEFULLY will be gone in OTA?
I'm having issues receiving text messages from a single contact.I'm using the Huawei X1 - running Subpsyke's latest rom. I use GoSMS.The thread I speak of has 5522 messages in it - and I am unable to recieve messages. They send fine and I can't get them.
I believe that this may be because of the huge thread size. Is there any way of preserving these messages but creating a second, new thread for the same contact?
Address Book Issue:
Suddenly after having it worked smooth for 3-4 days, I started getting a very strange problem which I was not able to search anywhere in forums or in the help manual.My address book search is not searching any contacts by the contact's names. It is just searching the emails, it's a huge problem for me especially when trying to send SMS to anyone, I can't go and add recipient by searching, I need to scroll the whole way down to that contact, which is irritating.
Otherwise the phone is quite nice and I am liking it very much. Especially the slide out keyboard is really usable plus unlike most smartphones, it's really small in size and performs most functions. There are some minor flaws but most of them are going to get fixed with the SE's much awaited software update for bringing in the Android 2.1, no doubt I am also waiting desperately.
My phone doesn't have a phone call log and contact app after updating 4.3.

Currently, I have it set up to send me an e-mail to notify me, but I'm getting the Google voice notification before the e-mail notification. It's doing this on both my voice mail and my text messaging. Hopefully this isn't some fluke, because the update says nothing about push notifications.
