General :: Stop Android From Closing Programs On Its Own?
Apr 12, 2012
As many of you know, back in October I had to make an emergency switch from Windows Mobile to Android. As you've all read in my posts, it has been a very "mixed" experience with both some impressive and downright pathetic discoveries, but one of the worst things about it (beside the complete inability to sync) is the way that Android closes your programs whenever it feels like it instead of letting you close them. Sometimes I'll be browsing the internet in Opera Mobile and I'll switch over to the email program briefly to check something, when I hold down the "home" key and pick OM from the list of recently used programs, it starts it all over again, and I know for a fact I didn't choose "exit".
Sometimes I'm glad Android "cleans up" (like if I back out of a program that has no "exit" option) because it saves me the trip to the task manager later, but is there any way I can prevent it from closing stuff I'm actually still using?

I have a rooted android 4.0.4,LG Nitro HD. I installed too many apps in my phone. My problem is the programs and tasks which run in my RAM.
For example i dont want yahoo gmail facebook apps run in my memory and check my notifications automatically when internet is available. It seems good but i don't want it happen.
I just want to have these apps and run them whenever i need them. I tried to force close applications , but when i reset the phone all apps will run again some application like google+ or youtube dont close at all.
How can i manage my memory and apps in my favor ?

I am currently using a Samsung Galaxy Note LTE and this phone is really getting on my nerves. Sometimes I am using an app halfway and it suddenly auto-close for absolutely no reason. Just to note, it's running on Android 4.0.4 ICS. GT-N7005
Maybe I should have bought an GS3 or something else other than this garbage.

How do you stop persistent programs,
for instance:
when i goto manage applications -> running services, fring is always running even if i don't run the app.
I will force stop the app, then minutes later, it will be back there again. that's just one of them.
Amazon mp3 also does the same thing. it still comes back even if i use titanium backup to freeze the app.

I have read quite a bit on task killers and decided that I didn't want to use them, but a friend of mine who has a G1 brought up an interesting point. He told me to look at the programs that are currently running. So I did and saw that there were about 7 that were running in the background that I NEVER use. I understand that you don't want to be constantly shutting down programs you use because it will make your phone run slower (can't access them as quickly). But what about programs I never use? I only use the GMAIL ap, so I don't need the email or the corporate email running. I don't have virtual voice mail, so I don't need that... and so on. Right now, rooting is beyond me, so I'm not going to do that. Are there any other options other than rooting to keep these from loading?

I am interested in investing in one of the new android tab/laptop combos coming out soon and am interested in what programs can android not run. I love android and the ease of some features vs current i5 laptop. But everyone says android is not good for productivity and confused as to what they mean. I am a developer or creating videos what cant these new machines do?

I know Android manages its RAM differently than modern computer operating systems, but I have a problem that's been happening that I think is related. Apparently, whenever I run large apps or games, or when apps increase in size significantly, Android freaks out and kills some or all apps, returning you to the home screen. When looking at the running applications list, it shows 80MB used, 22MB free, however adding what's currently running up doesn't come anywhere close to 80 MB of space!
Settings 9 MB
My Data Manager 5MB
ADW Launcher EX 11MB
Google Voice 2 MB
com.android.qualcomm 1 MB
Android Core Apps 8 MB
Google Services 6 MB
Android Keyboard 5 MB
47 MB total
Reported totals:
81 MB used, 23 MB free
What is going on here? Why, when I run web browsers, do they randomly quit out? What is using so much extra space?
Android 2.3.5, Gingerbread, Blu Dash 3.5, Rooted, stock ROM

I've searched the internet/XDA far and wide for an answer but can't seem to find a solution that fits my exact issue. I'm trying to mod my android keyboard to have red text color instead of white. I decompiled LatinIME.apk and edited styles.xml found in the Values folder. I only changed TWO lines which contain the hex color code for white- "#ffffffff". I changed them to the corresponding hex code for red which looks like #fff44444. I recompiled using ApkMultiTool. I deleted the resources file using the keep folder method and everything compiles fine. I then pushed the app to system/app making the correct adjustments to the permissions. I reboot the phone and keep getting the error message of, "unfortunately, Android Keyboard has stopped." When I go into my sms app and try to open the keyboard to send a text the message pops up again, however in the background my keyboard pops up and it DOES have the red text color I was looking for. So my modifications worked but I can't get the apk to run correctly. The ONLY file I made any modifications to was styles.xml.
I tried to wipe data for the android keyboard as well as my user dictionary but to no avail. I'm using a t-mobile G2X running Eaglesblood 4.0.4 AOSP.

I want certain apps (games etc) to be exempt from Android's auto closing algorithm, or at least be asked for permission when the system wants to close an inactive app. Is there any app that can do this?

I just got a dopo 7" tablet from a relative and for the life of me cannot get it to root. I have been at it since 3-4pm (its 11:10 now) and no matter what apk or .bat rootkit, or windows root exe i have tried from old guides and some new ("can root ANY android device 2014!!!") to YouTube videos.
i have unknown sources checked debugging checked tablet never sleeps/screen never shuts off have it plugged into laptop via the cable the tablet came with usb to micro root master apk failed suggested root-rk29 tab rootkit each step it tried it could not find any of the necessary files needed on my tablet (even after 3 restarts and 3 different methods) root will try to restore data like the programs steps shows but as soon as it says restore started it immediately says restore ended and it gives an X in the circle and wants me to retry (tried 4 times)
tried doomlordz v4 rootkit and same as other rootkit it says the files arnt found and does the alternative methods and SAYS its completed but root checker still says its not
tried key root master mentions something about a cloud program but never roots superoneclick becomes unresponsive for 20mins and does nothing so i have to end task (some says it freezes their phone/tablet) but my tablet acts like nothing is happening.I have tried Googling multiple times only to find results related to 9" version.
I have about reached my limit of patience on this thing..I have 0 knowledge on rooting other than reading up why I would want it or the common steps which did not work obviously...

I've debloated my sammy stock rom and installed the modified Youtube application. [URL] ......However this one keeps force closing. The same happens with the original application.
To debloat my rom i've used this CWM script (made by me) perhaps did i removed a bit to much.. [URL] ....
Logcat is attached. (in a lame .zip file because XDA cant accept .txt lager than 512 kb )
I've performed the next steps in attempt to fix it myself:
- Reinstalled the app
- Delete its data
- Wipe cache
- Wipe Dalvik
- Wipe data
- Fixed permissions

A couple of weeks ago I kept getting a low disc space error message on my Droid (the original). I have already moved everything I can to the SD card with App 2 SD Pro and I haven't loaded any new software to the internal hard drive, but I still had to delete a program to free up space.
Two days ago I started getting the message again, and I haven't installed anything. But I think several system programs have updated and gotten bigger. I've had to take off more programs to free space.
Is this normal, or is there a problem? I've cleared up any caches that I can get to without rooting the phone, but I'm starting to think I need to do that. I never use the Facebook app and it eats a lot of space, but I can't delete it without rooting.
