General :: Abbreviations On HTC Developer Downloads?
Feb 20, 2012
How to clarify the abbreviations HTC uses on their download page at [url]...?
I see terms like:
GB
HC
MR
CRC
I always assumed GB = Gingerbread and HC = Honeycomb, but what do MR and CRC stand for?

For at least 5 days now the number of downloads and active installs have remained the same, surprisingly since it was changing day by day. I still see through my server that new people are registering, so definitely the counters are broken or the numbers dont get refreshed. Has anyone had a similar problem?

I have a Nexus 4 and I activated developer mode by typing 7 times on the build number. Is there any way I can disable developer mode so I will not be a developer anymore? I switch off in the developer options but I was wondering if I can remove that from settings for good and to not be registered as a developer anymore.

Is there any way to permanently enable developer settings in AOSP Cyanogenmod 10.1 so they stick after a reboot? Disabling HW Overlays is necessary on the EVO 4G LTE with 4.2 AOSP roms, so after each reboot it is a bother to have to remember to enable it.

I have the old Nexus 7 with stock 4.4.2, and I want to enable developer settings.
I have found many references to Settings -> About (Tablet) -> And click 7 times on build number - but that simply does not work. I have tried tapping it 1 million times and nothing happens. If I tap "Android Version 4.4.2" in the same menu, I get the whole spinning K, kitkat, easter-egg game etc.
What am I missing? How do I enable developer settings?

I don't want to start any download my app should track of downloads going on in device. When ever Download starts my application should start listening to it. When user starts downloading my application should track download start time and when download completes I want to get end time and size of data downloaded.
Q1. Is there any way to do the above requirement.
Q2. If multiple downloads happening I want to get record of both downloads separately.
Q3. I need to get from which url Download is happening. Or Is it happening from any app like Google play store.

Where the actual folder location for the Downloads app/button that is in the app drawer is. Well, it shows up in the app drawer but I'm sure it's not an app. I'm running 4.4.2. Nothing I've ever downloaded goes there. It always ends up on the sd card in the download folder.
So what is the app/button good for? And is there a way to redirect downloads to go there? Seems like an easy way to check what you downloaded without using a file manager. If it only worked.

I remember seeing somewhere that one of JB's new features is the ability to only download the parts of an app that changed for an update instead of downloading the entire app again to save data. I'm on a Bionic with the 232 ICS leak and just watched a 45 MB app update download only 13 MB and then successfully complete the update and run. Is this a feature of ICS now too?

Any way to have screenshots taken with the device, or downloaded photo's, be directed to the instant upload feature?
Seems like instant upload pulls from the camera folder only.
Screenshots are saved to their own folder, as well as images saved from browser/apps, which would appear to exclude them from instant upload.
Maybe even a way for screenshots to default save into the camera folder? Likewise for downloads?

My speedtest on my 3G network is 12mbps. However, when I download an App or Additional Files from the play store, I get speeds of 100kb/s which is way below the 12mbps expected download rate (should be more 1-2mb/s).

I have a ZTE V889S (aka ZTE Blade C, ZTE V807) with android 4.1.2. When I download any application/game off the Play Store, it will download up to 100%, yet not install. If I exit google play, wipe the process, and start it again, then it will install the application that it already downloaded. when applications update, I have to restart google play multiple times to update everything, which becomes a nuisance.
I had the problem even on the original android 4.1.2 rom (with the default/not updated play store app), and I currently have Lewa OS (A chinese custom rom), which still has the problem. There is enough space in every possible install location (I've tried setting it to the SD card and the internal storage). The alternative chinese app market has no problem installing applications right after downloading them.

I've been having an issue with both Google Drive and Dropbox.
I have all my roms, odin restore things, apk files, custom ringtones all stored in Google Drive, previously in Dropbox (I didn't like having to re-login each time I restored the app and data when I installed a new rom). I also store the actually folders themselves on my Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy Tab 10.1, both on 4.0.4.
But my issue is that, whenever I download a file (.apk and .epub are the ones I tried because I was trying to install an app and add an ebook to the nook app.) it doesn't download correctly or something, because my .apks all say "Parsing error" and the Nook app tells me it can't open my ebooks even though, I can open both on my computer (Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit, service pack 1). This happens on both my Galaxy Nexus and Tab, on both dropbox and Google Drive. Both Google Drive and Dropbox say they have synced the files correctly.
I realized it was Google Drive and Dropbox, because when I transferred the files directly from my computer to the each device, they worked. The app installed, and the ebook opened,.

I wanted to start a discussion here where developers can possibly provide insight into this known issue on some devices and Android versions. There is a google product discussion over here
[URL]
Basically the music app downloads pinned tracks extremely slow despite fast internet connections. It can take more than an hour to download a 10 track album. I've noticed this when streaming music too, the buffer does not load quickly at all, barely keeping ahead of the playback. I'm running a custom 4.2.2 ROM on an evo 3d and I know that on an ICS ROM in the past I did not have this problem. From the linked discussion above it seems everyone is running JB who has this issue.
My current theory is it has something to do with the encryption of the music that the google music app does in order for your All Access music to not be transferrable off the device. Possibly with the new way JB organizes SD cards, this has created a rate limiting issue considering the app was originally programmed for ICS when it was birthed.

I'm looking to hire a developer for a small project. It involves searching and sending a request to my server which will return results in XML format. The app will have to display the results. Then based on that, the user will click on of the results and the app will send another request to the server and return the last bit of data. So basically a GUI that requests and displays data. My server does all the work, basically. I have designed a GUI with photo shop from pre-existing screen shots, so the developer just needs to emulate what I've drafted up.

It's $400 and out of stock. There are Chinese Android 'phones on eBay for less than $100 - can I just use one of them for development? The answer is probably yes, so I guess that what I am asking is if the official HDK makes life (significantly) easier for me.
