Is there a way to read .bk files right on my computer in a text editor or something? Or maybe a virtual phone setup on my computer... Just shooting in the dark here, I have gotten rid of my S3 and switched to BB but backed everything up the day before incase I need something off there and I need some of the text messages that I had backed up that I didn't think I needed.

Having waited for FROYO for a while now I was really pleased that Kies had an update which I think includes the Froyo update. I downloaded the update but my phone is not showing as connected in Kies mode. If I attach the phone in mass storage mode it is recognised!Having only just switched from iPhone to Android I cannot believe how shyte Samsung/T-Mobile have been with the software for such a great piece of hardware.I have tried rebooting laptop and phone as well as reinstalling Kies.

I know this may sound simple but am under the impression that when you make a backup of your ROM and other files on your device, it has to stay on the device.
When making a NANDROID backup, is it safer and more useful if one can store those backups on one's computer ?
Am sure there's a way to do this but am not sure if there's already an app for it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to connect my Galaxy to the computer either through Kies or by just plugging it in the computer does not recognize my device. The following message comes up on my phone regardless of which connection method I choose. "PC connection available only on idle screen. Close running applications". The only thing I have running that I know of is the "weather widget" which is part of beautiful widgets. Can I get a list of applications running on my phone somehow? Is there a way to turn the weather widget off? I am assumming that that is the problem. Anyone else out there have similar difficulties hooking up to Kiev or just your PC with the same kind of message?

The files on my phone, such as photos and videos, don't show up in the internal storage when i plug in my phone to the computer. So i can't drag and drop anything. I installed HTC sync manager on my computer, but when i try to connect with the phone it says some bull**** on the phone like "make sure you have installed the application on the computer and that it is open" I have installed it and it is open!!! What do i do? why is this so needlessly complicated????

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create custom ringtones from the music files on my Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.4.2 (CM 11 build date 09-Jan-2014). Most, if not all, of my music is in M4A format, so I made sure the ringtone makers I've tried support that format.
The apps play the music files just fine, but when I try to open any file for editing, no matter what app I use, I get "Error reading file" or a variation thereof. The files were transferred from my Windows 8.1 computer to my phone via Winamp (USB, not wifi).
how to resolve this, short of wiping all the music and transferring WAV or MP3 files?
I just finished decompiling an apk file and fro this issue I googled it and no luck? I want to extract the assets fro this app but the .png and .jpg files are coming up as an "Invalid image" The same applies for the sound ".mp3" files that cannot be read by VLC or windows media player!

Got the phone and naturally put in my SD card from the old phone into the new one....pictures showed right up in the gallery and tonight i went to put hubs picture as his caller i.d. And my pictures weren't there!!! I had downloaded an SD file manager seeing as i couldn't see anything else besides my pictures and videos from the old phone. I found the pictures in the lost.dir file and they're turned into read only files!! I tried everything to get them back to pictures but to no avail.... I'm really upset because i have the final pictures of my grandma on there before she passed away in January....

My app has root privileges.Ive tried this a few times but i cant get it to work, im just getting a file not found error when uploading.Ive tried mounting data/ as read/write but that didnt work or i did it wrong.
I used to be able to just plug the phone into the computer via USB and a drive letter would appear and I would be able to easily move files off the phone and to my computer.
Now when I plug the phone in Media Share pops up with numerous menus and sub menus. Best I've been able to figure out to do is copy one individual file at a time to some mystery folder somewhere on my network. Or using DLNA it opens up Windows Media Player on my computer which shows previews of the photos but no way to transfer the actual files.

I am running a CM11 Nightly on my jfltevzw. I am trying to update to a new nightly by dragging and dropping it onto my phone, the way I always do. However for some reason when I try to do it now, I get an error message saying "Cannot copy item: This device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." even though it shows up on my explorer. It was working fine like a day ago. I have rebooted my computer and everything, but it just won't work.

Q: Does a Nandroid backup include the /ProgramData/Language/ folder?
I'm trying to restore files I 'hid' using the Hide It Pro app. A developer blog post mentions that this folder is the 'vault location'. As a result, I'd like to find this folder and restore it if possible.
A Titanium Backup restore of the Hide It Pro app+data didn't of course work due to this. I'd like to avoid restoring everything from the Nandroid backup if possible and just restore the individual folder. I have of course tried looking through the folders and files to find it, to no avail.
/sdcard/TWRP/ is empty except for a single .twrps file
/storage/emulated/0/ is same as /sdcard/
/storage/emulated/legacy/ is same as /sdcard/
/storage/sdcard0/ is same as /sdcard/
I know the backups exist, as when I'm in TWRP, I can hit RESTORE, and see my backups listed there, but if I goto ES File Explorer, and try to do a search for that same filename, I get no results.
I am searching an application that allows me to backup the .apk files of both user and system applications like AppWererabbit (http:url...). The problem is that i need this app to be compatible with android versions below 4.0, i.e. android 2.3.X.
I have already installed titanium backup on my phone, but i miss the ability to set an automatic .apk backup when each system/user app is updated. I think that to keep .apk files of older versions of the same app could be usefull.

I changed ROM on my phone and when restoring the messages (SMS) with Titanium Backup it didn't work. Well this was not the end of the world but I had some numbers in one SMS that I would really want.
Is it possible to open one of the Titanium Backup files on a computer and read the SMS content there?
I search for a way, to make a complete backup. Because i will test some other roms. Complete backup mean somthing like the ftf files for Flashtool. a backup from kernel, rom and personal data's in one way with one file or folder that i can restore later. I think, that this not is possible with Smartphone on, so it must be a way with pc and Smartphone in Flash- or Fastboot mode?
