I had backed up my contacts from Samsung phone through Kies to my system. Now I am moving to Nexus 4. how to move my contacts back from my system to Nexus.
When I first heard about Kies about 2 months or so ago, I still was using my Galaxy Nexus, so I installed the software, followed the steps, and it never got past connecting. Move forward a few months, and now I've got the S4, well, Kies still gets stuck on connecting...this software just refuses to work. Why it won't work, or how to get it to work?

Just shooting in the dark here, I have gotten rid of my S3 and switched to BB but backed everything up the day before incase I need something off there and I need some of the text messages that I had backed up that I didn't think I needed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor those still struggling with this, or those just getting this phone and encountering issues, I have a solution for you (that I have not seen posted thus far, and with 90% less black magic - just average, everyday Office blood, sweat, and tears).
If you are just trying to get your contacts, and you can't get Kies to work, try this:
Go to your contacts in Outlook, then selects the contacts you want (ctrl+click if you just want certain ones, shift+click to mass selects, etc), then right click and go to "send full contact" and then "in internet format", and then send the email to yourself. Go to the email, save the contacts you wanted someplace you can find them.
After this, make sure your Captivate is either in "Mass Storage" connect mode or in "ask me" mode. Plug your phone in with the USB and open up the phone in explorer. In another window go to where you saved all those .vcf files and then copy them all to your phone.
Unplug your phone when you are done, then go to your contacts app. Open the menu->more->import/export->import from sd card->phone-> and then whichever option you want (I'd go with all).
Spent 5+ hours trying all the different suggestions (and every different permutation of settings and procedures I could derive from the various programs and dark rituals suggested) before I finally figured this one out. Hope this helps others - it preserved my contacts, pictures I had assigned them, phone numbers, birthdays, etc, without manually entering them for a day or two, or being forced to sync them with gmail (preventing me from giving them custom ringtones...) and saving me any more headaches with 3rd party programs or Kies or any other ridiculous witchcraft.
Having waited for FROYO for a while now I was really pleased that Kies had an update which I think includes the Froyo update. I downloaded the update but my phone is not showing as connected in Kies mode. If I attach the phone in mass storage mode it is recognised!Having only just switched from iPhone to Android I cannot believe how shyte Samsung/T-Mobile have been with the software for such a great piece of hardware.I have tried rebooting laptop and phone as well as reinstalling Kies.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't want my contacts to be synced with Google. IIRC, this was possible in 2.x. Having upgraded to 4.0.4, I'm not able to disable Google contacts.
I'd like to:
1. Disable contact sync (this works)
2. Change all contacts from Google contacts to phone contacts
3. Add new contacts as phone contacts by default.
Using the "Accounts and Sync" settings, I'm only able to deselect "Sync Contacts", but I can't find a way to move the contacts and disable the creation of new Google contacts.
SO basically, I'm using the "Online Nandroid Backup" app to create a nandroid to prepare for the upcoming 4.4 update and the whole root/unroot process. I want to know if I can move the backup folder from my phone to my PC (due to the complete erase that'll happen eventually), and then move it back. Will my phone recognize the backup as long as I use the same app to restore and have TWRP installed?

So I really want to upgrade my Rogers Samsung Galaxy Note II (SGH-i317M) to JB 4.3. I currently have JB 4.1.2. BUT, I'm currently rooted. I have used Framaroot to root my device and it's worked! When I get 4.3, I don't care if I have my data or not or if I'm rooted or not... Can I update through Kies? Will it brick?!

So I was smart enough to add all my contacts in Gmail first and then just have it sync to my phone. No problem. But now I have added phone numbers of people as I got them on the phone, but they don't show up in my Contacts on Gmail. How do I get them there?
how do I tell if the contacts are saved on Gmail, the phone, or the SIM card?
I am currently using SMS Backup+ to backup my messages. It works great but it does not restore MMS messages. Any app that backs up to a cloud service and restores everything including all MMS with the associated pictures, files, videos, etc.

I'm on the latest TB Pro and I want to upload my backup to Box. However it keeps failing since the Sonic CD backup I have is bigger than the 250 MB limit that Box has on its files. Is there any way to get TB to skip it so that it can continue backing up my other files? Nexus 4

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy first Android phone, so please forgive my ignorance if any. Rooted Vibrant, flashed from stock ROM to Obsidian V4. I did a "backup current ROM" before "install ROM from SD card" by using Rom Manager. The process went smooth, but after booting into the new ROM, I found that all my contacts were gone. Sync with google account won't help because most of the phone numbers are not tied with my gmail contacts.
Now, I want to know if there is any way to extract/restore my contacts without restoring to the saved backup. Actually, I tried restore but the phone did not boot after restore. Do I have to use Odin to boot my phone to solve this issue? And even if I succeed, will I see all my contacts?
What is the best way to backup my data, on my computer. I would like to backup, my contacts, and my apps if possible.
View 1 Replies View RelatedPrior to upgrading to 4.2.1, I made a NANDROID backup of my Nexus 7 (4.1.2) using mskip's toolkit. The restoration method copies the backup folder to the device (/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/), then boots it into custom recovery. At first I was using TWRP 2, but I think I need to be using CWM, so I flashed CWM Touch. I actually went through the motions again of copying the backup over to the Nexus 7, but CWM Touch doesn't see the backup folder. It returns two messages when attempting to Restore:
1. Couldn't open directory
2. No files found
The folder containing the NANDROID backup and all parent folders are readable/writable/NOT Hidden, according to ES File Explorer, but I wonder about ownership.I'm rooted with SuperSU 0.99.
how to make CWM Touch, TWRP 2 or some manual method recognize and restore a NANDROID backup? I know I could just flash stock 4.1.2 and start from scratch (I have apps + data backed up), and if it comes to it.
I have a Captivate. My ATT phonebook DOES NOT WORK, i cannot get it to sync it never has worked. So my Question is HOW can i backup my Phone contacts to a server Online?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have seen some reports that after going to Froyo you need to perform a factory reset. I presume that this will wipe all the applications, user data, etc. Question here is: Before starting the upgrade process in Kies (which will offer to backup your contacts for you) what should I backup? Is there a program recommended for this backup? Is it safe to restore everything or should I only partially put things back?
View 12 Replies View RelatedSo i broke the screen on my Galaxy Nexus.
I also broke the power button (flex ribbon) at the same time.
I am told that the technicians will wipe the hard drive when they go to fix the screen.
I am wondering if there is a way i can backup the pictures from my phone to my PC without the power on the phone turning on.
Also, is this wipe is even necessary, i have another tech who seems somewhat shady and small scale but claims he can fix it without the wipe.
Is it possible to move contacts and phone numbers from excell to razze maxx?
View 2 Replies View Relatedso I ending up having to do a Factory Reset (after only 3-days), and now I am having to input ALL my contacts again manually - After much searching on Google, I found that Sprint does offer a FREE backup service, however, it's NOT available on the Epic yet - I mean really?!? *rolls eyes* So, are there any other safe + free services out there to backup my contacts? I'd much rather use Sprint's Mobile Sync service, but that may be a ways off yet.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Google Nexus 4 (rooted, of course) and I'm using the native phone encryption.
There is some information that can be found, revealing that google uses the native linux dmsetup tool for this.
Now, just in case anything goes wrong, I'd like to have a backup of the encryption master-key,
that I could use to restore the dm-crypt header.
On a normal linux system, this would be easy, only one call to dmsetup and I'm done.
However, I just can't find any info to do this on android.'
The UI doesn't offer this option (as is to be expected) and I just don't know how to do it by using adb.
I've opened a root shell session and tried some commands (dmsetup, cryptsetup, some calls to "vdc cryptfs", etc...), but I just don't find a way to do it.
I'm about the take the Android (EVO specifically) plunge. I'm coming from an old Palm phone. Wow, talk about a quantum leap. Anyway, to prepare for the move, how do I get my Palm contacts into Gmail's contacts? Is that how it works? I need to move my Palm contacts to Gmail contacts, right? Then when I get my new EVO, it will sync with Gmail and my contacts will be in the new phone?
