General :: Phone-to-PC Connection App

Nov 25, 2013

Big hands + small phone = need for a GOOD phone-to-PC connection app.

Phone is a Medion E4002 (bought from Aldi) running Android 4.1.1. Does everything I want and great value for money.

I've tried a few apps but so far not found anything that easily allows me to do all my phone editing on the PC screen - mainly extensive contacts editing, but also file transfer etc. Texting is a big one too, as I need to frequently send text messages to groups.

I want an app that loads when I want to use it, not when it thinks it's needed - some are really annoying in this respect.

I sit at my desk all day with phone beside me so connection will always be via USB cable. Don't care about other connection types (Bluetooth, etc).

Samsung Epic 4G :: How Phone Use Wifi Connection As Opposed To 3G Connection?

Sep 15, 2010

Long time reader, first time poster here. How does one know if the Epic is using the wifi connection as opposed to using the 3G connection? When wifi is connected both that and the 3G connection shows at the top. So which one is in control per se? And how can it be verified?

General :: Disabling The Phone Contact Connection?

Jan 19, 2014

how I wound up with this but after a factory reset I noticed that in my phone contacts there are all these "connections" with a chainlink type icon. I didn't have these things before my factory reset.

I don't sync with Google, I use Companion Link and DejaOffice. DON'T want to sync with Google. I can't find a way to "un-connect" and get rid of these things. If I press on them, I get an option to add a connection but no option to disconnect that I can see.

I'm assuming this is either an Android or another one of freaking Google's attempts to invade a my space, privacy and run my life and I don't like it.

General :: Sharing PC Wired Connection Using Phone WiFi - Possible?

Aug 7, 2011

I have a PC running Windows XP, which is connected to the internet using a wired cable modem. I then have a laptop, which I want to use to access the internet, but no wireless router.

Then I realized that my G1 (running Froyo) has WiFi, and I have the USB cable for it. So, is there any way of setting up my G1 to use the connection from the desktop PC via USB, and then broadcast it as a WiFi network? This is only intended to be a temporary solution (a few days) so I'm not going to go out and buy a wireless router or anything.

General :: T-Mobile Galaxy Vibrant - No Network Phone Connection?

May 31, 2013

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy Vibrant that was running Android 2.1. I rooted the phone (successfully), and installed Slim Bean 4.2.2 plus Google apps. Everything was going smoothly and I was reinstalling apps and data when I noticed that I had no network phone connection. Slim Beam did not seem to recognize the sim, and I came up empty searching for networks. I removed the sim and put it in another phone, and everything was fine.

I decided to restore the previous android 2.1 (which I had backed up) using ClockWorkMod Recovery. I did restore, then reboot. Now the only thing I get is the initial screen ... Vibrant and Samsung in bold white letters. I have tried repeatedly to launch CWM Recovery, without success.

General :: IPv6 Tethering - PC Access To Phone Internet Connection?

May 31, 2012

Assuming the following:

Android 2.3.7 device is connected to an IPv6 internet connection

Tethering is legal for your device/carrier

The ipv6-test gives 10/10 (perfect score) for IPv6 readiness for your phone, and you can access e.g. [URL] ..... using the phone itself

You want to tether to a PC using USB

Device is rooted

Is there a way to give the PC access to the phone's IPv6 internet connection?

I'm assuming that we can't give the PC a public IPv6 address, because the phone is probably only allotted one IPv6 address from the carrier; plus they might treat your plan differently or something if you try to claim another IP address (it's an unnecessary complexity)

So what we actually need to do is, to create a NAT IPv6 space on the device, just like we do for IPv4 when we tether, and provision an IP to the PC that way. Then we have to do something for DNS; I guess we can use OpenDNS's AAAA servers.

Do any of the existing tethering methods support this at all, or is this something I'd have to do manually? Also, is it possible even in theory on Android 2.3, or is it known that a newer version of Android will enable it?

General :: HTC Sensation - Installing Apps On Spare Phone Without Data Connection

Sep 11, 2011

My main phone is my new HTC Sensation, and I have all my regular apps installed on there (via the Android market, using my Google account).

My old phone - Rooted HTC Hero - I keep as a spare, and use only when I am travelling overseas, to put a local SIM Card into.

My question is, can I install apps on the spare phone on an ad-hoc basis, without using my regular Google account?
Ideally, downloading .apk files for Android market apps?

As it's only a spare, and mainly used for voice not data, i don't really want all the same apps as on my main phone, just some of them -things like Go SMS, JuiceDefender, etc

Also currently, the plan I have with the local SIM card I'm currently using has no data - only voice. So apart from connecting it via my laptop, I could only install apps using free wifi.

Android :: Cancel/abort Connection From ThreadSafeClientConnManager Connection Pool

Oct 14, 2009

I'm using ThreadSafeClientConnManager to manage a pool of client connections, because my application has several threads, which are simultaneously connecting to a webserver.

Abstract sample code:

CODE:..............

Now lets say on of this threads is downloading a large file, but then the user of my application is switching to another activity/screen. Therefor the file is needless and I'd like to abort this download connection.

In ThreadSafeClientConnManager I found this method: public ClientConnectionRequest requestConnection (HttpRoute route, Object state) Returns a new ClientConnectionRequest, from which a ManagedClientConnection can be obtained or the request can be aborted.

So far I've been using:

CODE:.........

Now from what I understand, I've to use:

httpclient.getConnectionManager().requestConnection(HttpRoute route, Object state);

And that's the point where I'm stuck. I assume that for the route I can just use new HttpRoute(new HttpHost("10.0.0.1")) or whatever my server is, but what to put in for Object state?

And second, as soon as I've the ClientConnectionManager I can call getConnection(long timeout, TimeUnit tunit). But then from there, how I do I execute my HttpGet httpRequest = new HttpGet(URL_TO_FILE); as I did before with HttpResponse response = (HttpResponse) httpclient.execute(httpRequest);?

I've been gone through the documentation and tried out quite a few different things, but I wasn't able to obtain a working solution. Therefor any suggestions and/or code examples are more than welcome.

HTC Hero :: Internet Connection On PC Through Phone?

Aug 11, 2009

Being impressed by what I saw and read about Hero, I'm considering getting one. What usually isn't part of the reviews is, how the sync application(s) work together with the phone. I see there's a decent solution for syncing with Outlook through HTC sync.It makes me wonder if there's also a possibility to share the internet connection on PC with HTC sync or any other app? I mean, to use the phone as a 3G modem when connected to PC?This feature would help a lot.since I don't have a separate mobile net stick on my laptop, but used my phone so far to have internet access on the go. With Windows Mobile phone and ActiveSync it was quite buggy but possible, with my current Nokia phone and the Nokia Software it's just two clicks after I connect the phone to the PC.I wonder if there's a similar solution supported for Android?

Android :: No Data Connection While On Phone?

Dec 20, 2009

I saw this commercial the other day for the iPhone where they were saying how the iPhone can look up stuff on a map and lookup restuarant info on the web all while on a phone call. I thought, that's silly, can't every smart phone do that? I had never tried it before on my Hero, so tonight I just did a simple test, where I was on the phone and tried to look up some info on the web. No go. There was no data connection. Boy was I not happy about that. Is that a function of the OS (v1.5), or the network I'm on (Sprint)? It seems like its pretty basic that I should be able to be on a phone call AND look something up at the same time, just like the iPhone commercial. Or am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting somewhere?

Android :: Sending Data To Dev Phone Using 3G Connection

Aug 3, 2009

I have a server application listening on port 5001 on an anroid dev phone. The client application running on my laptop tries to send data to the server application.

The client can successfully connect and send data to the server machine when the phone has wifi enabled. The command to do this is - iperf -c <ip address of wifi interface>

But when I enable the 3G connection and try to send data then it fails. iperf -c <ip address of the 3G interface>

I cannot even ping the <ip address of the 3G interface>. Is there any port blocking enforced in case of external 3G network connection. Can anyone please tell me how can I send data to the server application on 3G network. Is there any specific port on which the server application should be listening??

HTC Magic :: Phone / Connection Acting Very Weird

Aug 17, 2009

So, I'm an HTC Magic user, I bought my phone unlocked from Greece and use it in the UK on Orange pay as you go. Following an sms w/ an attachment I received, the phone has been acting very strange and I need your help.Ok, I'll try to make this as clear as possible. So, because I'm on pay as you go, I have two apn options, one of which is fake, so that i can change from/to the proper apn settings whenever I want and the phone doesn't automatically connect for any reason if I don't want it to (so as to avoid paying). I was on wi-fi most of the time anyway. This was working perfectly for me, until.About 3 weeks ago, I received a txt message from 1550 (which, I think is orange's spambot) with the word "RockCorps" and an attachment. I accidentally clicked "download" and then clicked cancel as soon as I realised. I'm not sure if anything downloaded at all, nothing I noticed.HOWEVER, following that exact message, suddenly, although I was on the "null", fake apn, my phone went on gprs. I could see the icon and the NetSentry app recorded activity as well. I have NO clue what it was trying to download or upload at all.

I went into the apn switching screen to make sure I wasn't still on proper GPRS from the last time, but the selected option was the fake apn, which, up to then, gave me no data. No settings had changed on the fake apn, but it seems that even without selecting it, the fact that I had the proper apn listed enabled mobile data.
