Galaxy Note 8.0, Suddenly my gmail would no longer sync. So, I browsed the internet for a couple of days looking for a solution to getting reconnected to gmail. I deleted the gmail account from my tablet, uninstalled all updates from the gmail app under applicaton manager. Tried to setup the account again and still got this message "Cannot safely Connect to server". It seems thousands have had this issue and for some reason no one has been able to provide a correct solution. I'm thinking to go back to APPLE! WTF. Can it be that difficult to fix? I don't want a work around by changing ports, accepting bad certificates, etc...I don't want to ROOT my device, and I don't want to do a factory restore!

My (original) Evo 4G is rooted, running stock and s-off. I'm not sure if I can safely download the latest ota update without destroying or damaging the root and superuser access I have now and don't know if it will switch s-off to s-on.

Running Samsung Galaxy S III with CyanogenMod 10.
One day I made a backup of my phone via ClockWorkMod like every good boy should, and updated to CyanogenMod 10.1
After a few minutes I realized I didn't exactly what 10.1 just yet, and wanted to switch back to 10. So I went to ClockWorkMod and restored my backup.
Now in my folder, I have all of the normal folders in the /sdcard/ directory, but I also have a 0 folder (which I found is a feature in 4.2.1 to allow for multiple users or something of that sort?).
Basically I want to safely remove the "0" folder, but merge all of the goodies in it with the stuff in my /sdcard/ folder, so it will be back to the way it was before I got 10.2/4.2.1 and just have all of my stuff on my /sdcard/ area.

I am using a samsung galaxy s2 i9100 international variant with root access and rocking on Resurrection Remix 3.0.6[4.1.1] JellyBean Rom, I am unable to safely eject my 16gb usb stick, i have tried apps like stickmount usb-host diagnostics etc, nothing worked out for me, usually an umount option will be available when you pull down the notification bar, it doesnt come up for me , is this a flaw of the ICS and JB ROMS? How to safely eject usb stick from my phone
This is the video i took earlier today [URL] ....
and this is what i want on my phone [URL] ....
Notice how phone recognised usb stick as a usb device, whereas mine was called an sd card , he had the option to eject usb stick safely on his gingerbread rom, whereas i didnt on my jellybean rom

I would like to know the same thing. Here is a list of my apps. I dont know what most of them are. Some I use, some I think I use, others I have no clue. I only have 29mb of internal storage. I have tried everything to use a2sd on my phone. Nothing seems to work. So, I need to thin out my rom and get a little more streamlined.

My app targets 1.5, and runs fine on my phone (1.6), but to support droid, I need the package android.telephony.cdma from 2.0. Targeting 2.0 excludes the current devices running my app (including my own G1), but as it is now, I can't support the Droid.

Call me a newbie, but does Android store any critical data on the SD card? Just did a factory reset on my Sprint Hero in preparation for giving the phone to a family member, & I'd like to give them the phone with a clean slate on the SD card as well as the phone. How Can I safely format SD card?

Running a non-rooted 2.2 Desire
So once your phone is mounted as a USB drive(mass storage), how do you exit ?
1. Do you reallly need to ?
2. If you do, how are you doing it ? While i would like to use the extended controls widget, when i do try to turn the USB button off, it says "Mass storage deactivated", and promptly after that " Enabling Mass storage".

I have recently gotten the "low on space" warning. I uninstalled a bunch of apps that were cool to have but rarely used and took up a lot of space. I noticed though that old directories are still on my SD card (and internal storage too I think). What is the best way to SAFELY run a disk cleanup? Any "gotcha's" to watch out for? Is there an app that analyzes my directories and recommends those not needed bases on apps currently installed?

I know that we can safely write to /data/data/app_package... however, can the application also create folders and maybe access other folders as well, such as system? I could easily create an application to test that, but what i really want to know if the official Android approach to this issue. I don't want to assume something that will be changed in the future.

Does anyone know how to do this correctly? I can't find any examples & the API documentation is pretty hard to follow.I am guessing I need to use the KeyGuardManager and PowerManager... but can't figure out how to bring my activity up past the keyguard and re-enable the keyguard so my activity doesn't let someone get past the lock when my activity awakens.

Is it possible to safely delete the VZW backup assistant?
It seems unnecessary as I have my contacts in Gmail, and it won't even sink now anyway...
I know I can just set it to not sync, but I can't stand knowing that it is there, doing nothing...
Can this be done without damaging any of the phones information?

So, I have been successfully moving bloatware and other apps I don't use - from Verizon apps to Samsung Widgets. I use LauncherPro exclusively and according to this site, TouchWiz30Launcher.apk/odex can be removed safely, but he also mentions not to move Launcher.apk, which I don't see in my system folder. When I move it, the phone is operational, but keep getting a force close error for TouchWiz30Launcher.apk/odex. By moving it back with Root Explorer, it corrects the error immediately.I guess what I am asking is...is it possible to disable the 17MB file of TouchWiz if I am not using it, and if so, how.

I had to clear my contact data the other day from settings/applications/manage applications/contacts storage to cure a google mail account sync problem. It worked and the phone now syncs fine. But, I now have duplicates of all facebook events in all my calendars. Can I safely delete the data in settings/applications/manage applications/Facebook for HTC Sense? do you think if I did that that it would sort the problem? Would this cause issues with my contacts, as some are linked to Facebook friends, or would this sort its self out when it re-synced?

When the user press the home key, the onPause method is called. At this time, the application is supposed to save its state so it can be properly recovered later.
However, and if the state is taking too much time? For example, issuing a closeAllNetworkConnections that was waiting a feedback from the server, or just if the amount of information we're writting to disk is a lot of info... what would happen?
In my tests, i'm getting from 300-500 ms of time until the process is killed.
Is there a safer place to put a "save everything and quit" code so that it can safely save everything before a "kill the activity" task is issued?

I'm working on an application that requires non-serializable objects to be passed between Activities. The following page suggests using a HashMap of WeakReferences to accomplish this:
http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/faq/framework.html
Is this solution safe? I know Activities are completely destroyed and recreated when the screen orientation changes. Couldn't those weakly referenced objects get GCed in the split second when the screen is rotated, since they wouldn't be referenced elsewhere at that point?

Okay, I've asked this question in several other threads and forums, but never gotten a clear answer:
If I use Titanium to back up my Inc w/ 2.1+rooted+Leaked OTA , can I safely restore all apps, settings (including email account settings, wallpaper, home screens), and appearance once I install the Froyo 2.2 that leaked today?
I've seen some posts that say you should never apply system settings from an old ROM to a new one, but the whole reason I bought Titanium was so that I wouldn't have to re-set up all my home screens, background images, wallpapers, email accounts, etc. If I wanted to just backup/restore apps, there are a million ways to do that. I thought the whole reason Titanium only works on a rooted phone was so that I could restore EVERYTHING.
How can I SAFELY use Titanium to move to the leaked Froyo ROM without losing any of my settings, apps, or appearance?

I would like to simulate a small cluster of Android devices either on one laptop (worst-case), or on several machines on a private network. This is for testing communications and process migration on Android.
Is there a safe way to identify and launch a particular emulator from a given application under Eclipse? I have a recent Eclipse/Java/ADT setup and I'm using the a variety of tutorials from Mark Murphy, Meier, and Abelson.
