View 13 Replies View RelatedI recently won a rugged smartphone called Titan (not the HTC titan). You can see it here: Rugged Phones
It runs Android 2.3.6
The details from the "About Phone" menu are as follows:
Model number: Titan
Android version 2.3.6
Kernel version: 2.6.35.11 -perf+
Build number: VER_Titan_TISA0120
Using *#*#1234#*#* does not bring up anything
how to root this phone?
I have a Chinese phone (Alvo 5 Smartphone) running android 4.0.4 that i'm trying to root. I would like to know if there's any click app that would root this device.
Phone Info:
Alvo 5 Smartphone 7" screen
Dual sim
Model Number: MSM7227A
Version: 4.0.4
Kernel Version: 3.0.8-perf
Software version: V2.10
Then I tried doing Toast's root and got confused at step 2 (the adb step).
Now, I know a LITTLE about what ADB is and that you basically only need it so you can use your computer to type/see things instead of doing it all on your phone.
(This is the thread that I'm using by the way: [TUTORIAL] How To Root The HTC EVO ~ Part-1 / - xda-developers)
1. So, so far, I downloaded SDK package, saw the "tools" folder and see the "adb" file. When I click on it, it pops up like a "command/cmd" screen and disappears. Is it supposed to happen like that? Or am I doing something wrong?
2. Also, in Toast's method, when he says to put the PC36IMG.zip file on the root of your sdcard. What does he mean by that? I'm sure it's something simple but I'd rather be sure how to "put it in the root of your sdcard". Just that mean just right in the front by all the folders?
3. Next thing the page says is: "adb push PC36IMG.zip /sdcard"
I don't know what he means by that. Am I supposed to do something here?
The steps follow this (until it's Rooted) I understand but not this.
4. Then after rooting there are some other steps he has in the original thread that say somethings about "adb shell, adb.. etc"
What do all those mean?
Used Toast root this morning successfully and without problem. Trying to use evo-recovery and every time I try to do anything I get the error, "error: device not found." Any ideas how to fix it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedTrying to root for the first time; I ran the one click root app I got from here:
[APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.2 beta 5) - xda-developers
and it said it was successfully rooted. I can execute su from adb shell (and the phone pops up saying that unknown has been granted superuser). But I don't have flash_image in /system/bin so I can't flash a recovery image, and I tried the instructions in the link in this post:
What am I doing wrong: BootLoader/Flash_Image/Recovery Image (basically download the flash_image, mount system as rw, and push it in to /system/bin) but it still doesn't work. The mount seems to work (doesn't give any error messages) but the adb push command gives: failed to copy 'flash_image' to '/system/bin/flash_image': Permission denied

So I'm trying to put kali Linux onto my phone using the vnc way. I have the file (1gb zipped 3gb unzipped) I have 11gb of free space on my phone. I have to get that file over to /kali a folder I created using root explorer. Yes I am rooted with supersu. I mount the system as r/w and when I paste this file into that folder my phone crashes. Like it begins to do it (gets nothing done) and then crashes. I managed to get the zip file into the folder but when I try to extract it it crashes as well. This Also doesn't work on nexus 7 2013 running slimbean. Why can't I move that file there?
I have root access in my program, but i am still unable to rename a file in /system/media. once root has been obtained my code is
Code:
File ba = new File ("/system/media/bootanimation.zip");
if (ba.exists()) {
ba.renameTo (new File ("/system/media/bootanimation.zip.bak"));
}
Is there a root file for all android versions?
Or one root file for each android version like 2.3.6 or 4.3?

When going from 3.02 to 4.04 on the Spectrum, the phone pulls an updated file. The update file is this: (remove the spaces in the link. I don't have a high enough thread count to post links yet)

The file itself can be opened with WinRAR, but shows that it was signed by SignAPK.
My question is this, What should I theoretically need to do in order to inject root into this so that when the update runs on the phone, it adds SU to the system directory with the correct permission settings?
I have s-offed and installed amon ra 2.0.1 on my htc desire. Now,when I try and flash a rom it comes up with an error saying missing files,But I have tried 3 different roms.

I accidentally deleted an android file through root, now my phone doesn't boot properly. All i get is "process com.android .setup wizard has stopped" and stays i idle in the black screen. Even i tried reseting the phone in recovery mode..
I bought an android 2.3.6 phone which no one has tried to root( it seems). So I was wondering if I could root it by creating an update.zip file containing the su binary and the superuser apk and then installing it in the recovery mode. Will this work? I have failed with gingerbreak, unlockroot and z4root.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to reboot an Android smartphone as a non-smartphone(Like a Nokia 1100) ? Just enable only services to make phone calls and everything else remain disabled(Slow down the CPU to the lowest clock speeds, lower bit depth, turn off all on-board electronics other than those necessary etc). Motivation is to save power. In my phone most of the power is consumed by Android OS (and not screen). I was wondering if I had a mode like that I could keep the phone alive in case I can't charge the phone immediately, by switching into this power saving mode.

Motorola Droid - Original
1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.
I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?
I just rooted my stock froyo with it! If this has already been discussed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am not able to understand one simple issue.. if there is no root access to file system even to the user who owns the phone then why on earth would the dev guide include commands like
adb push <local> sdcard .... when the sdcard of emulator is read only.. Is this some kind of mockery or sarcasm with the users?
I'm trying to gain root and having some problems...
I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.
After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html
to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?
I have installed root and all was good, but i put my default gmail as the one that did not have my purchased apps so i need to factory reset. If i factory reset will my root stay or do i need to re-root?
