Running a non-rooted 2.2 Desire
So once your phone is mounted as a USB drive(mass storage), how do you exit ?
1. Do you reallly need to ?
2. If you do, how are you doing it ? While i would like to use the extended controls widget, when i do try to turn the USB button off, it says "Mass storage deactivated", and promptly after that " Enabling Mass storage".

I've got an a31 allwinner device. (novo 9 spark)After having rooted it, i can't exit from recovery mode: adb device shows me a number and recovery...And the tablet doesn't want to boot normally.
I can't use phoenixsuit, because it's now not recognised by the pc (recovery mode).
Just upgraded to Kitkat. Now when I come out of airplane mode there is no way to enter my Sim pin code. The only solution I've found is to reboot it.
Before kitkat I'd have to select an app like tasker or data manager before it'd ask for the pin. This no longer happens though. HTC One
I have a Captivate I was running with out of the box software. I installed a profile timer to control sound (mainly because of the "fully charged" notification going off of a night). Since I installed it, I have not been able to get my phone out of Silent Mode. If I long-press power to get the Phone Options menu and Silent Mode is enabled, then I disable it, I get the Silent Mode icon in the notification bar and Silent Mode in Settings is checked, but shows as "Off" in Phone Options. If I turn off Silent Mode in Settings, then it shows as off in Settings, but "On" in Phone Options.
Because of this, the phone is always silent. I did a hard reset, but that did not straighten it out. I've also tried a couple of different widgets to force it to ring or vibrate, but I'd like to actually get the problem resolved. I even did the upgrade to Froyo 2.2 to see if that would fix it, assuming a whole new firmware would straighten it out. It worked until I restarted the phone, but then went back to the out of sync Silent Mode settings.Does anyone have any suggestions?Thanks, Mark
I had to clear my contact data the other day from settings/applications/manage applications/contacts storage to cure a google mail account sync problem. It worked and the phone now syncs fine. But, I now have duplicates of all facebook events in all my calendars. Can I safely delete the data in settings/applications/manage applications/Facebook for HTC Sense? do you think if I did that that it would sort the problem? Would this cause issues with my contacts, as some are linked to Facebook friends, or would this sort its self out when it re-synced?

Which is considerably bigger than whats left of my internal space.Is the INTERNAL used for Multimedia files as this thread suggests?Internal Storage vs Phone Storage.If so. How come my multimedia files have ended up there, when they've always been saved to my SD card.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe screen on my wife's phone (Samsung Epic 4g) died and so we are trying to move the data off the phone. Normally, you press the "Turn on USB storage" button to see the storage when connected to a computer. Since the screen is dead, that is not possible.
Is there a way to initiate USB storage mode from the computer?

I cant find usb mass storage mode (for internal card)when i connect my phone via usb to pc.The computer reads the phone though.
The only was it connect is via recovery mode buts thats difficult to do everytime.
I have a generic LY-F1 Allwinner tablet which was working fine until a week ago. Now, however, it won't boot past the glowing Android screen. I've left it for five or six hours with no progress, so I guess the ROM is corrupted. Is there any other way to fix this other than flashing a new ROM?
However, the main problem with this tablet is that it does not automatically enter mass storage mode when plugged into a laptop, so I have no way to rescue my content. I can see the drives in Windows (one for the internal SD, one for the SD slot) but they are not usable (they result in an 'insert media' message)
Is there a way to force mass storage mode so that I can remove my data in preparation to reflash it? I'm sure I read of a command line method to get into the internal SD card? Or was I imagining it?
How can I make Android 4.2.2 always go into Mass Storage Mode when I plug it into a PC?
View 8 Replies View RelatedEverytime I plug my Desire into either of my PCs, I get a warning from Norton 360 saying that it (the Desire) is infected with a virus called VBS.Runauto. Having checked the details of this supposed virus, it appears to be in the Google folder. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to "ignore" it or safely remove it without causing problems?

It detects the two internal memories, but the moment I access them; it says please insert the disk in the drive. What might be problem here? The memory shows as mounted in the phone.Also, Kies application does not appear to be working on Windows 7 64-bit. It does get installed properly, but does not detect the Galaxy S.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I connect my new Galaxy S to my computer using the usb connection, I can see both the internal and external SD card (I use a sandisk Ultra 16GB card). However I cannot open these disks. Windows refuses to open them. The right click on these disks in order to get their properties gives 0GB! So what is going wrong. Do the SD cards use a special format (linux ?) that windows can not see correctly.
I take chance of this message to give a short feedback of my first week with my galaxy S here in France. I got it from virginmobile operator. I have to say that this phone is amazing. What a screen ! My wife just purchased an iphone 4. By far I prefer the samsung's screen. Concerning the battery. One can go for one or two days without recharging. My feeling is that it is not shorter than the iphone's battery.
I was able to move a few files to my X from my computer earlier tonight, but I unplugged it from my computer to do something on the phone, and when I plugged it in later, the computer showed the phone storage (drive F) and SD card (drive G). However, I can't open the SD card, and when I go into the SD Card settings on the phone, it keeps going back and forth between Mount and Unmount. The stuff on the card is there and everything works fine when I'm not connected to the computer. But I can't move anything to my phone via USB since I can't get the computer to recognize the SD card. I also noticed that there's no option to format the SD card (well, it's there, but grayed out).

I really want Mass Storage mode, as I use my phone as a memory stick for various educational purposes, including running various executables directly from the Mass Storage.
Is it possible to create a 1GB, or so, FAT32 partition from the normal ext4 space and allow that to be mounted as Mass Storage?
I'm attempting to support my daughter with her GS3. The device is currently in SAFE MODE and and the storage is nearly full. She also has said the device has been rebooting on its own. She is currently deleting apps she is not using. She does not have an SD card installed. I know how to get around my BlackBerry, but am unfamiliar with the ins and outs of Android. Her device is the Sprint version running 4.3. How to get her device back in top running condition.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo...I am currently using a custom sound for my notifications. Since we aren't allowed to access the internal storage, the sound file is stored on the sd card by default. Today when I plugged my phone in (which is defaulted to USB Mass Storage) it started to play the sound from the card, but Mass Storage mode steals the SD and blocks it from the phone, so halfway through the sound, the phone rebooted. When the phone was almost restarted, it recognized being plugged in (still) and tried to play the sound again...reboot. I unplugged it and changed the default notification to one of the pre-installed ones and tried again. Notification played and everything was fine....wtf? So.....can I either disable the sound when I connect to USB mode or is there a way to put the sound file in the folder with the factory installed ones? (I am rooted)

I am now getting low storage warnings.
I'm not prepared to root just yet. How do I take a look at what's using up all the space?
I have 2.52GB storage left on my SD card (only 16MB is left in phone) but when I try to install Google Earth, it says that system has not enough storage.

I currently have about 8 apps installed on my phone other than the stock ones. I've tried clearing the cache, deleting data, and even when I sort my apps by size, the largest is 5mb (chompSMS). I've checked the mail app and that's not huge, neither is contacts. I cannot see what is taking up so much space constantly.
Is this a faulty phone, or is there something I've not tried?

Will there be a fix for this in the next update to give you the option to allow installing of apps to the sd card instead and leave to internal memory alone?
I have the Internal memory Widget on my homescreen and in the past few hours the amount of internal memory used has jumped from 92mb/147mb to 118mb/147mb. I'm struggling to figure out why.
I have Mobile Internet enabled as always, and I use several well know apps and widgets like Sky News, BBC News, Chomp SMS, Twitter, Facebook for Android, etc. I've checked every app using Settings > Applications > Manage Applications and only a couple of apps had a cache size over 1mb, most didn't have stored data at all. Facebook had about 4.5mb of cache data, but all this adds up to a total much less than the 26mb increase that the memory widget is reporting.
Anyone know what could be filling the storage?
I was wondering though how people handle being so close to the limit. My problems seem to come when I update my apps. Despite no reason for space increase when I update them I regularly lose space. Today I update a couple of apps and it pushed me over the limit, so I had to go in a find a few I don't use and remove them. That left me with supposed about 15.5mb left, but now it's gone down to 14.95, despite no apps being added, so I can see a warning coming soon. One thing I have noticed is that for some apps removing them completely, and then added them back again seems to gain you some space.
It unfortunately is just blind luck in finding ones that will happen for, or at least it seems to be so to me. Also very annoying is that the space you clear by deleting apps doesn't seem to correspond with what you get back. I just cleared supposedly 1.5mb of cache from the web browser, yet I only got 500kb of space back? Obviously I've been through all the apps and looked for any that I can clear the cache for. One thing I would like to know is why the low space warning has to come at ~15mb? Seems to be I've always got that space just wasted, which is a pain as there are plenty of 200-300kb apps I could add, using just 5mb of the space.
Newbie here so please be gentle. I own a HD2 but I am posting this for a friend who is having a problem with his Desire. How does he set the memory card as his default storage instead of the internal phone memory ?
