how google accounts work. I got a phone previously owned by a family member and all his contacts are still in the phone. I was wondering if it is possible to delete all the contacts on the phone but not affect his google account contacts? Also, if i reformat the phone, will this delete all his google contacts?

my Android device: Everytime I add a new contact it's randomly saved to one of my two Google accounts that are synched with my phone, but I want it to be saved directly(locally) to the phone. I've browsed through all the settings menus but couldn't find a solution.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo back when I first got my phone I was putting in contacts the dumb way selecting "phone contact" rather than putting them in under my google account. I also have a bunch of contacts recovered from backup assistant. Since I am constantly flashing new roms it has come to my attention that there isn't always Verizon Back up Assistant support on them. Take for example CM6-RC3, I love the rom, totally and completely....except when I try and run Back Up, it says it isn't compatible with the program and recommends uninstall. So my specific inquiry to all the great rooted Dinc users out there is, is there an easy way to turn all those annoying "phone"/old non google contacts into google contacts without doing each one individually on my computer/phone?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't want my contacts to be synced with Google. IIRC, this was possible in 2.x. Having upgraded to 4.0.4, I'm not able to disable Google contacts.
I'd like to:
1. Disable contact sync (this works)
2. Change all contacts from Google contacts to phone contacts
3. Add new contacts as phone contacts by default.
Using the "Accounts and Sync" settings, I'm only able to deselect "Sync Contacts", but I can't find a way to move the contacts and disable the creation of new Google contacts.
I accidentally saved a few contacts to my phone instead of my google account. Is there any quick way to fix this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have searched around on this and other forums, looking for the answer to a question that has been bugging me since before the weekend.I got the HTC desire on friday (love the phone!) and have got to the point where most of the things are set up how I want. I have used HTC sync to import my contacts from Outlook where they were already set up how I wanted. However I can't seem to be able to import these contacts back up to my Google account though. I have turned on all the sync settings and checked these, but nothing seems to work.I tried creating a dummy contact in my google account and prompted a sync from my phone which pulled this down ok. So this would indicate that the sync seems to work one way, but wont pull my contacts back up the other.I don't really want to re-enter all my contacts into my Google account to get the sync working properly plus I am assuming this will create a duplicate of every contact already on my phone.

I have my phone set to sync contacts with my Google account; however, whenever I add new contacts to the phone they are never added to my Google account. I will press sync now and everything (including contacts) will claim to have successfully synced although my newly added contacts from the phone remain local (on the phone but not on my Google account). I rooted my Razr M (XT905) to remove a bunch of the pre installed apps.All worked fine and phone runs great. But I cant import my contacts from my google account. Gmail and app store syncing works fine, just contacts are missing.
When I access the options menu in the contact section, google isn't showing. When I look at the accounts in the settings menu, the google account is there and has the option checked to sync 'people details' (guessing this is the same as contacts).
So I'm guessing I've deleted something when removing the apps.
I recently synced my Facebook contact to my phone so that I could have their Facebook pic as the pic on my phone. I do not want to have all my Facebook contacts in my Phone. I tried deleting them from my phone but it says that I have to delete them from Facebook in order to do so.

I have over 700 contacts and they're all grouped nice and neatly, but that doesn't seem to matter. Any way to merge the phone groups with the google accounts groups?

I start saving them to phone instead of Google when giving the option, thinking i could just sync whenever i upgraded ROMS. I was wrong i lost some contacts, restoring older ROMS. View 2 Replies View Related When I set my phone up it loaded every singe contact from my GMAIL contacts onto my phone. I don't necessarily want all of these clogging up my phone, but when I go to delete them from my phone they also get deleted from my contact list in GMAIL. Also the same with emails. If I delete them on my phone, they get removed from GMAIL inbox.
My old blackberry would give the an option of "delete from phone" or "delete from phone AND gmail".
Having an issue where anytime I try to add a new contact manually for a new phone number or create it using the "create new contact" feature via an old text message by that phone number's owner, my phone automatically deletes it within seconds. This happens only when the sync settings under settings-->accounts & sync-->background information are enabled. The new contact gets deleted regardless whether I add the new contact BEFORE enabling sync or whether I add it WHILE sync is enabled.

When I go into a contact on some I have multiple numbers for them which is fine. But when editing within some contacts it lists 4 or 5 'google contacts' for that person. Some of which don't even have a name and/or number.How do I delete these extra google contacts?

I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.

I don't want to do the .csv backup and all that just sync all Phone and Google contacts to Google. View 17 Replies View RelatedI own a HTC hero (Orange). With talks of android updates becoming available, there seems to be a mad rush to back up everything so that nothing is lost on the update. There are many ways of doing this, but one of the most common problems, is that people have their contacts saved as 'Phone' contacts and not 'Google' contacts. This means that they will not sync with Google mail. There was no contact export available to me (I think because my firmware was still 1.5).
This seems to be a solution that will solve the problem without having to write out every single contact number in Google mail.
1. Enter android market.
2. Search 'Contact sync'
3. Download/Install this application.
4. Run the application
5. All contacts will be turned from 'Phone' contacts to 'Google' Contacts
6. These contacts will then be synchronized with your Google mail
This means that if your contacts are lost on your phone at any point (eg. an update), they can easily be 'Exported' back to your phone through Google mail.
There are 1000 people trying to get their phone contacts to become google contacts, but i want my google contacts to become phone contacts so i can get them to sync to my windows contacts.

View 33 Replies View RelatedMy wife's phone - which is a ZTE Blade running 2.2 - is losing it's favorites in the contacts manager each time it syncs to Google Contacts.
I looked up her Google Contacts [URL] and there is no "Starred in Android" group, as it should be. I think it should be automatically created when she fovorites a contac in her phone. But instead, it deletes the starring of the contacts in the phone each time it syncs.
My Facebook contacts are merging with my ICS "People" address book and Google contacts. I don't want this.
I opened the FB app from my Rezound (ICS) and looked at the settings. The "Sync Contacts" option is set to "Don't sync"
Then I looked in the Android Settings --->Accounts&sync--->facebook where there are three boxes, sync calendar, sync contacts, and sync live feed. I made sure all those boxes are unchecked.
I figured I'd just try deleting FB from my Rezound but it seems to be undeletable if that's a word. It's like standard bloatware that I actually use on occasion.
So why are my FB contacts still merged with my Google contacts? I am seeing my contacts with their FB photo and this drives me crazy. I don't want FB communicating with my address book. Gingerbread didn't do this.

I opened a new gmail account for her, then activated her phone on my number. I tried to sync her Eris with google, with the idea that she could sync with her Incredible. Unfortunately, the contacts won't sync.
