General :: Edit Android Contacts On Computer?
Jan 10, 2012
I got a HTC Incredible S and want to edit my android contacts on my computer.I thought there would be an app with a web interface or something similar I could edit my contacts on my computer.
I have HTC Sync, but don't want to use Outlook to edit/add contacts.

My earlier phone saved the sim contacts in a really bad way, long story short - when I search them on my new android phone [htc hero], they are all messed up.. I want to download them to my computer, edit them, and upload them back to the phone, how can I do that?
Reminder: not talking about google contacts or anything like that, i'm talking about contacts that are saved on my SIM card.

I have an OG Droid. My contacts are screwed up (somehow I duplicated them from the sd card) and the phone is super slow.
I would like to copy my contacts (and some vids/pics) to my computer for editing purposes, reset the phone, and load the contacts back on.

All of a sudden I had a contact mix with another and I am unable to edit that contact. If I try to add a new contact after saving it the contact does not get added to list. I don't know where it went. I did a battery pull and still no luck.

Is there a program that will let me edit my contacts. I imported a bunch of contacts from an old phone, and they look like crap..like missing letters, some numbers added to the names ..It would be ALOT easier to edit on a PC..

I am trying to create an App that has a similar layout as the view you get when you edit a contact. The main functionality I need is the ability to click a "+" or "-" button in the row and add/remove another row where the user can input another line of data. I have looked into the expandable lists but I am not sure if this is what I should be using or if it is just a list with a custom adapter.

Is there anyway to re-establish or manually add the Facebook syncronization option to an existing contact in my Contacts app? I lost the Facebook sync icon in the contact information and this is inconvienent at best, and possibly is the cause of disabling the phone functionality at worse. Subsequent behavior on at least two occassions has shown that attempts to dial out using this particular contact locks up the dialer, causing multiple forces closes, and essentially disables the phone functionally both in and out of the phone for long periods time (10-20 mins) until the application can be correctly cleared and purged from memory.
I was able to successfully sync my Contacts with both my Google contact list and then all my Facebook friends. However some of the contact information was not exactly how I preferred and attempts to update that information using the Google contact list was not always successful. Not entirely sure if this is a bug or by design. I was able to successfully modify one contacts name with Facebook sync from first name first to last name first (to correct sorting to my preference). A second contact wouldn't modify no matter if I updated the name information on Google contact or on the phone itself. Finally I attempted to delete the contact and re-add it. This worked but now I lost its Facebook sync (no Facebook icon to click within the contact information). I'm not sure if this detachment is causing the dialer problems.
After syncing all my Facebook friends with my contacts (for complete-ism), I successfully deleted some Facebook friends from my contact list. But what if I want one back with Facebook sync, is that possible?

I have them filtered on the Handset so that only those marked as Friends or Family under Gmail contacts are shown. I can't help this as otherwise I'd have well over 1000 contacts to scroll through on my phone.
My issue is that should I add a contact on my phone it doesn't appear. This is obviously because when it's created it has no group membership. It still resolves against SMS etc but is not displayed in the Contacts list. I can (when near a computer) quickly jump onto gmail, manage contacts and put the person into the right group but ideally I'd like to be able to do this on the handset.
Is there any way at all of editing Google Contact Group membership on the handset? I certainly can't find the option if it exists. Alternatively is it possible to change it so when the contact is create on the handset that it automatically saves as a 'Friend'.

When creating a custom account and/or sync adapter, raw_contacts that belong to your custom account can be created. But it looks like that they then cannot be edited with the Contact app! Is this a known limitation, or a problem in my code?

So somehow I added my parents to my ICE contacts, and every time I call them, my phone goes into emergency mode. I remember adding them via something like ##setup, but when I go there, I don't see them under ICE contacts. I'm tired of having to exit emergency mode.

So my N1 automatically pulled all my contacts from Facebook. The thing is some of them don't have their numbers in their FB profile. When I go to the contact on my phone and try to edit in order to add a phone number, it says I can't edit facebook contacts? Anyone have this issue? How do I add a phone number to an existing fb contact?

Most of my contacts were moved over when I made the switch to Droid. One thing I've found is that when I try to add a new contact it does so as a google contact where as my existing contacts that were synced over show up as Phone-only contact. There obviously is a difference when adding/editing contacts but I can't figure out how to choose between the two types.

I was told by a Sprint employee that once I logged into my Gmail acct via my Samsung Epic, that both my Gmail acct (on the web) and my phone will show both, and that I could edit my contacts in Gmail? Right now I only see my contacts (sucked from my Instinct) on my Epic, and my Gmail web acct shows nothing.

Whenever I try to edit the details of a contact I sync from facebook (to add a phone number because it isn't listed) I can't edit it. It gives me some BS about not being able to edit facebook contacts... do I have to make a whole separate google contact just to add a phone number?

Doesn't seem to be a way to enter Date fields (birthday, anniv etc..) when creating or editing a Contact? Is this true? The "More" option only expands to Notes, Nickname & Website. I believe I've seen that Sense UI on the HTC devices allows Date entry/edit in Contacts, but I'm not seeing in stock Android 2.1 on my Droid. Surprised Dates can only be entered & maintained on the desktop.

I own a Droid, and consider myself fairly savvy in the Android world, however my wife recently got the Ally and is having a problem editing her contacts. So when she initiqally booted up the phone it walked her through logging into google and facebook, etc, and it imported all those contacts into the phone, however, she wants to add in their phone numbers now, but its not letting her. We click on the menu button, click eedit contact, but then there is no way to edit or add phone numbers.

I always used to backup my Nokias to their PC suite on my home computer. That backuped everything on the phone if I wanted and also was excellent when I changed phones, as, as long as they were Nokia I could just restore everything to my new phone.
Is there any similar system for my HTC Desire? I need the assurance that if my phone gets stolen or needs to be replaced, as I'll backup often, I'll be able to restore everything to my new phone directly from the computer.

I just recently switched from a Window Mobile phone to the Captivate and I am loving it thus far. Aside from the standard gripes about gps i have nothing to complain.
I am however having trouble comprehending how google syncs my contacts. I have my contacts set up exactly how i want them on my google account online i.e. co workers freinds family grouping. I would like my phone to display the contacts in the same fashion, but it seems the google sync is only one way from my phone to my account and not the other way around.
How can i get my contacts to sync from my google account so that they show up as i have them set up online without having to do every individual one on the phone.
