General :: No Sideload Parameter For ADB
Feb 18, 2014All the rooting guides for android use 'adb sideload'. I have the latest sdk, but there is no 'sideload' parameter.
It's not listed when I write 'adb --help', and it's not a hidden parameter either.

Aug 25, 2013I was going to get a new rom for my galaxy s3 mini, I made a complete wipe, formatting system/cashe/data, then I was going to install rom but I pressed "Install zip from sideload" instead of "install zip from sd card".
In short I'm thinking that if I remove battery my phone will be dead until I can get a comp and flash thru that, so I don't want to do that. How do I stop this request?

Aug 5, 2010Okay, so I downloaded the Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine for the Mac, and it is a file called swm-install.sh. When I clicked on it, it opened up as a text file. I tried renaming it swm-install.command and it wouldn't open saying that I didn't have the priveleges/permissions, even though I unlocked it in the Get Info Window.
I tried using Platypus to make it run as an application...but I'm unsure how to get that working. I don't understand terminal and coding, although I'm willing to learn new things. How do I get this to work?
I need detailed instructions for a novice?

I've installed Froyo on a T-Mobile branded Desire. After the update, turning on USB tethering leads to immediate loss of mobile network - it just turns itself off. Same goes for the mobile Wifi hotspot: turn on -> for 2 seconds, it's working -> mobile network drops off. Moving into airplane mode and back brings back the network, but tethering is a goner. With 2.1, USB tethering had worked. I'm on Base, a brand of e-plus. I've talked to their customer services, they say Base absolutely supports tethering.

Jan 27, 2012i rooted my android phone (xperia arc- lt15i, on firmware 2.3.4) and installed titanium backup, with the intention of clearing away bloatware that came bundled with the phone. I did a backup of my whole phone with the app before proceeding.
but being the idiot that i am, i accidentally deleted something called "voicemail ..." (can't remember what comes after that). now it is gone from titanium backup completely.
the thing is after i did that i immediately lost my phone connectivity (can't make calls out/3G etc) and whenever i go to settings>wireless&network settings> mobile networks, the phone crashes, with the option of 'force close'.
but wifi and the other functions of the phone still work. i tried restoring via titanium but it still doesn't work because the file was deleted.desperate for a solution, i tried a hard reset but the problem still remained, and strangely after the reset i lost control of my middle, hard home button.

And it is the best OS I've had on a phone to date. (my first CM) it's really nice. but unfortunately I have the problem with (like manny other) "Mobile network not available" so I'm forced to go back to the original ROM.

May 19, 2012Is there any personal Mobile IP solution working for Android? For Nokia S60 there is Birdstep's SmartConnect, but their Android products seems developed only for carriers and enterprises, and I haven't figured out any other consumer (or free, better if opensource) solution. The same goal (seamless switch from cellular data to wifi) could be accomplished eventually with OpenVPN, but the client (OpenVPN Settings & Installer) I tried is quite unstable in my experience.

Android :: Mobile Apps Vs Mobile Web
Jun 18, 2010Recently I logged into GMail with my browser instead of the GMail app, and discovered what I've read before elsewhere... that the GMail mobile web page seems cooler and better, than the app.
So, I've been thinking... which is better? Is either better? Can they both be equally good?
Either way, it occurred to me, it's interesting that all the Android blogs fall all over themselves almost weekly to come out with various "Best X Android Apps" articles, but I don't think I've seen any articles about the best mobile web pages for Android (or any smart phone for that matter).
I understand the money is to be made in apps, and that not much can (yet) be done with the web that you can do with an app (until we have workable Flash?) but surely there must be some great mobile sites out there that are better than, or equal to, apps?
I'm appealing to all of you then to make your suggestions for Best or at least good mobile web pages to use on our Android phones. I'll be looking around myself, and will possibly turn the results into a blog post of my own.
Here are a couple of starters that seem to be better than the app versions:
- Gmail: nicer interface, quick access to GTalk and Buzz as well as Calender, etc.
- Evernote: www.evernote.com/m Evernote has a really good mobile web site in case you don't want to download the app.

Jul 19, 2012I have a 4G Sonic T-mobile hotspot (hockey puck type of device) working fine tethered to my Desktop, working via Wifi to my laptop and my iPad. No issues there. I also have an original Moto Droid on the VZW network, rooted, but no mods.
The Droid connects via Wifi to my Home Network (a Linksys Wifi Router), and other WiFi networks when I'm on the road. However I can't get it to connect to the T-Mobile 4G Hotspot. I know that's crazy, thinking I might get 4g internet speed out of an old original Droid, but technically it should work right?
Basically the Droid sees the hotspot, connects for a split second then gets dropped/disconnected. Or it's a settings issue and despite trying a million different settings.
I'm wondering if there's something in either device, or perhaps both, that recognizes one is a VZW device, the other a T-Mobile device, and it keeps me from making the connection. what might be keeping these two devices from connecting?

Dec 13, 2013I have been struggling to make phone calls/send texts/go online without turning on WiFi. My phone rarely connects to the 4G network that I know is strong , because my dad's identical Galaxy S3 is quick to connect to it. My phone rarely connects to Edge either now. When I go into the "Search Mobile Networks" tab my phone just keeps searching and searching... and searching. I thought I had the solution a moment ago when I turned on and off Airplane Mode. My phone connected to 4G for a moment and I was able to send one text, but then it dropped back into nothingness. In addition, it takes nearly 30 seconds to switch into airplane mode after I select it.It's not the sim card because I tried it on a different phone and it works fine. My dad's a cynic when it comes to rooting and he's saying it might be because I rooted my phone, but this issue started two to three weeks after I rooted... is rooting a potential cause?

I got a budget friendly phone for this journey - which will be my practice device. I am just fascinated with all the possibilities that may happen with a tiny handheld Android.

I have tried several methods and for some reasons only this VRoot_1.4.3.3378_Setup worked from bbs(dot)mgyun(dot)com and sadly I could not understand Chinese so before I get distracted from my primary goal (learning to maximize this tiny handheld and customizing ROM) and try to dissect the application to make an English version or learn Chinese so I can read it.
Also, right now it says its rooted but I cannot flash CWM (or maybe it's just because I can't understand the prompts) and as far as what I've read this device doesn't have one yet. SKK's mobile devices looks like they're going to be mass-manufactured and really affordable, so another goal of mine is to maximize this, and also suggest improvements along the way.
