General :: A-GPS In Android System
Sep 20, 2012
I'm about to buy a mobile phone white label that says owning just "A-GPS" (not internal GPS). If I install a browser like CoPilot or iGO and respective maps on sd card, I can navigate offline?
In other words, my question is whether the system with A-GPS it is possible to browse offline, without spending net traffic, since the browser and maps are on the respective memory card. Or this system always needs to connect to the network?

I am an Android app developer, and I have purchased a Nexus One device which I use to continuously test my developed Android applications.
Background: ----------------- One of the applications I developed uses a native shared library (e.g. myNativeLib.so). Only my application loads & uses this native library. I had developed this app before Android NDK came out. I pack my native library into my apk's 'assets' folder, and during my application start- up, I extract this native library from my package's assets folder to my app private directory (i.e. <assets> -> /data/data/<myappprocess>/ myNativeLib.so). Then I use System.load() API in my application to dynamically load this native library.
Problem: ------------ This application was developed during Android 1.5 (i.e. cupcake) days {I didn't have the Nexus One then}. The above procedure has been working without any problems right from Android 1.5 to Android 2.2 (i.e. Froyo). I have also tested the same on my Nexus One for Android 2.1 (i.e. Eclair) and Android 2.2.
The problem began the moment I recently upgraded my Nexus One to Android 2.2.1 via the FRG83 system update. Now, whenever I try to load my native library, I get the following error:
D/dalvikvm( 3653): Trying to load lib /data/data/<myappprocess>/ <mynativelib>.so <some address> I/dalvikvm( 3653): Unable to dlopen(/data/data/<myappprocess>/ <mynativelib>.so): Cannot load library: link_image[1995]: failed to link <mynativelib>.so
What I have Tried: -------------------------- 1. I tried my application using Android 2.2 SDK (emulator)...it works, no issues. 2. I checked out the latest froyo & android2.2.1 source code from Android open-source, built & tested my application + native lib using the latest froyo source...it built & ran, no issues. This should've taken care of any changes in the native code dependencies between Android 2.2 & Android 2.2.1 3. I even checked Android 2.2.1 source code for dalvik (java System & Runtime classes) + bionic (linker & dlopen sources) between Android 2.2 & Android 2.2.1 (using source checked out from Android open-source), but couldn't find anything consequential 4. I am unable to return my Nexus One to Android 2.2.

Phone: UK Galaxy S Issue: Recovery boot error message in red writing
Multicsc : can not access to / system/csc/VOD/system/
Background: I have been trying to root my phone from information found in a youtube video. All went well and the little ninja bloke with the sniper rifle was in the app list. Tried installing busybox and was told that the phone was not rooted..
I think I ran the root application again and at some point I started getting this error message when in recovery. I have since run the one click root method to unroot the phone and the little nija dude is no longer there. Since I rooted the phone it will no longer connect to my wireless network, it finds the network and attempts to obtain an ip address. After a few min it times out and tries again. When I load the phone recovery the error message is still present.

how to do this in Linux, but I would like to know if there is a way to create a system group in Android? for example:
Root is member of the "Root" system group
The regular user that's logged in on the phone (I'm using an Evo LTE) is as follows:
uid=10213(app_213) gid=10213(app_213) groups=1015(sdcard_rw), 3003(inet)
I would like to know how to create these additional groups?
I'm rooted with Busybox installed.

I have an Amazon Kindle and the SGS2 which I take out and about with me.
I want to be able to transfer documents to and from the phone and Kindle (already got SSH access to the Kindle over WiFi) while out and about.
My phone is rooted and I've installed dropbear SSH. I can use connectbot to SSH into the phone locally but the shell I'm presented with doesn't see `scp`. I believe this is supposed to be included with dropbear? How do I get scp from this shell?
The reason I'm looking to do it all from a root shell on the phone is becuase I believe this is the only way to get access to the clients connected to the virtual access point. Hence I'll be able to:
be in the middle of the desert, create a WiFi tethering hotspot with the phone (though it has no signal), connect the Kindle to the phone via this access point, get a root shell on the phone and scp documents from the phone to the Kindle.
I believe I am as far as this final step but need an extra kick to get me there. Perhaps I need to install another shell?

how the android DPI system works? If i reduce my dpi on my Gnex, from 320 to 250, everything gets smaller; it gets denser (as there is more in a smaller space), however the name (dots per inch) would suggest that a higher figure would result in a more dense screen.

After this trying with fastboot, ADB, tools like TWRP, CWM etc to get something work again, manually cleared and also removed files and folders with ADB. At last using Weapon ROM Installer and get flashed a ROM but now my internal Card ist not fully useable - the storage information says 66MB.
I can not install any apps and the system always get aback to zero, when I do a restart

My objective is to create a text file in an android file system.
Using java language, I am creating an app. It has a screen with a table of 3columns. Each time a user enters the table row and click on Submit button, the row entry should be created as a separate comma-separated file on an android device. So each time when the table gets updated with new entry and clicks a submit button, a new file is getting created on the device file system. So I am looking for the file connectivity to the internal device memory where I could open the files and access it.
I have done the same in Nokia mobiles using J2ME. But for Android, I am not able to find the device file path.

How can I perform a backup that will backup absolutely everything, including:
- the whole operating system
- All applications
- All data files
- Everything in /sdcard
I would ultimately be able to backup everything over USB, and restore it all also over USB, so that I could wipe the tablet, install something else, and get back to the point I was before I wiped it out. I have apps and data files, but I also have OS customisations and setup that I have to re-do if I re-install the OS.

I am trying to write an application which works like described below. When user start application it check if user have registered PIN on his device. If user have registered PIN, application must show button "Continue with PIN".When user press on button "Continue with PIN" system standard PIN dialog must appears.User enter his PIN and press "Continue" button. After System must check if entered PIN is correct or no and continue working.
I have made some researches and find some articles on stackoverflow and other internet sources which say "There is no way to develop a new custom unlock mechanism on a non-rooted phone." or "I would be surprised if you could, because then you would be probably able to steal the pin code, and I don't think anyone would want that.".
Also I have watched some video tutorials like Tutorial: Android Internals - Building a Custom ROM, Pt. 1 of 2 and Tutorial: Android Internals - Building a Custom ROM, Pt. 2 of 2.
Decision:So I think that the only way to get access to the Android system PIN dialog is to root the phone make some changes in the system files and use system PIN dialod
getting access to the system PIN dialog in the rooted phone.

How do I incorporate an App or Widget into the System? I had a widget apk, could I combine it with the SystemUI or some other system-related-things so that both processes are one and they load together. I know that you can turn them into a System app but that's not what I want to do, I want to put them together so that both of them are one, get it? Oh and BTW, I don't need to be spoon-fed or anything, I know some coding and have been studying Android. I just need to know which files to edit or change.

Downloaded worldpay.apk available from their site. I have a rooted sanei n10 and updated ICS os. Anytime I try and open app it says ' the operating system of this device has been modified. Due to credit card security measures this app has been disabled' or a message very similar to this. I know some people had similar issue with barclaycard pingit but the fix for that doesn't work in this case. Ie install superSU, uninstall superuser, install hide my root. Hide my root always fails to hide su binary and says there is no su app to hide.

I'm engineer but more from a chip/assembler x86 level. I'm new to Android. Still figuring some general things out. I have written some apps, but have a general question. If I were to write an improved version of - let's say - TextView. Is it possible to make all app's on the system using this class, basically replace TextView? How are the java classes on the Android system, are they compiled, can I replace the library? Is this protected?

2 days ago I tried to update my aunts sensation xl and told her that it is better to update its ROM from 2.3.5 to 4.0.3. So i created a google account in phone and added it in order to sync contacts....and after 2 hours, I thought that it has been synced...After upgrading device to ICS, and adding the previous account that i made before upgrading, I was waiting for contacts to restore, but nothing happend.. I opened the gmail account on PC and saw that there was no contacts. So the only way for me to restore the contacts is to find a way to restore them from Phone device. So,is there any software, either on phone or PC, to restore contacts from phone? or is there a way to have access to root folders and files of phone on PC to use a recovery program to restore "Contacts.db" file that was erased while flashing ICS?
