How do you find out the install size of an app? (without installing).
I want to install an APK file with 350 MB size in Android real devices, i do not know it is possible or not. Can I install large APK files? What is the maximum size of an APK? If anybody knows the answers please help me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with installing an apk of size 72 MB onto devices like Samsung Galaxy i7500 and Nexus One. The entire size of the application is 256 MB. The devices have enough memory say 600MB on samsung galaxy. But still it does not install saying there is insufficient storage. Do the apk file gets uncompressed to the size of application after installing. I mean if I am installing this 72 MB apk does it take 256 MB space of application. Does it work somewhat like a .zip file? Please give me a solution as to why even after having enough memory I cant install the apk?

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I'm loading images from a web service, but the size of the images are sometimes smaller or bigger than other images and the visualization looks silly when I put them in a ListView in android. I'd like to fix the size of my ImageView so that it only shows a portion of the image if it's larger than a preset amount. I've tried everything I can think of setting the setMaxWidth/setMaxHeight, setting the scale type to centerCrop, using ClipableDrawable wrapping my BitmapDrawable, setting using Drawable.setBounds(). I've tried setting in the XML and programmatically, but neither worked. I'm very surprised setting max width/height didn't do anything. Below is the XML I'm using ImageView definition in my layout file
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently developing a dictionary application with voice database. I would like to know about the current Android limitation on the file size. I am using a self-provided sqlite database ( > 50mb ) . I tested that once the built .apk size exceeds ~30mb the app will not be installed onto the simulator (INSTALL_FAILED_ INSUFFICIENT _STORAGE). Could anyone confirm me that if up until now there is no way to embed such large size files in a single apk ( Aimed to sell at Google Market without requiring user to download datafile afterwards). Also, is there a limitation of 1,048,576 bytes for a single file in the assets folder ?
View 3 Replies View Relatedif size of image is larger than or smaller than specified display size (on screen), then it is automatically, compressed and stretched resp by android run time or require to handle by explicitly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHi,
I would like to see how my app works on a 800x600 android netbook. how can i setup an emulator with this size?
thanks chris
I manage a cache of bitmap. Do you have an advise to fix the maximum size of it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedCan somebody explain to me what makes up the installed application size? I have an apk that is about 8 MB, and often when I install I get the INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE error. I have around 25-30 MB free space on the phone. I'm doing debugging so I have to upload lots of new versions. If I uninstall the previous version then I can install the new version. The application manager claims that the app is taking up 22 MB. So back to the original question, how come the app is taking up 22 MB when it really only is 8 MB?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI would like to know why the size of my shared library .so is bigger than my .apk file generated with Eclipse? Approximatly the so size is twice the apk one. What is strange is after having installed it in the device (2.1 firmware) I checked the size of the apk when I uninstalled it from the device and surprisingly the apk size indicated is bigger even than the .so one. Is there any explaination of that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy app downloads .png files to the sd card for later use. I kept getting OutOfMemoryErrors (if anyone could explain this too, that'd be great!) and so I took a look at the sizes of the images saved to the sd card, and they seem to be roughly double what they are on the server. Why is this, and how can I make them smaller?
public void onCreate(Bundle saved)
setContentView(R.layout.namedrxnscreen);
TextView t1 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.rxn_text1);
TextView t2 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.rxn_text2);
TextView t3 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.rxn_text3);
TextView t4 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.rxn_text4);
iv = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.rxn_image);
pb = (ProgressBar) findViewById(R.id.rxn_loading);
vs = (ViewSwitcher) findViewById(R.id.rxn_switch);
I am programming an app using an absolute layout (@ eclipse). How to fit the button size with the screen size? (I have four buttons per row).
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post. I've had a Moto Droid since day one, and I just love it. It is without a doubt better than any phone that I've had over the years, and that includes the iPhone, BB, etc.
However, there are 2 things that I don't understand - Font size and a spell checker. It is imposiible to read the small font size in emails or text messages.
1. Why has there not been an app to either change the font size or be able to zoom in? Picasy has incorporated multi-touch for zooming, so I've to assume that its doable! Why not have the same in an email client.
2. Why is there not an email client out there that allows for spell checking? There are many such apps for the BB! I am a terrible speller.
I am not complaining, I just want to understand the limitations from a developers prospective, as I am sure these isuues will eventually be addressed.
I have an ImageView which I want to always be the same size. If the image is smaller than the view, I'd like it to be centred in the view. If the Image is larger than the view then I'd like it scaled down - with aspect ratio preserved.I've had several attempts at this myself
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have created a custom icon bar in Android using the XML layout creator, using a RadioGroup within a LinearLayout (XML included below). Each RadioButton within the RadioGroup has a custom drawable (with checked and unchecked states) as its android:button attribute. The Linear layout is itself within a RelativeLayout so that it can appear at an arbitrary position on the screen (as a side bar, in this instance).The drawables are 55 pixels wide, and the android:layout_width attribute of all these views is "wrap_content".When I make this component visible, aligned to the bottom-left of the screen, only about three-quarters of the RadioButton image widths are visible. Setting the layout_width of the RelativeLayout to "fill_parent" rectifies this and causes the full button to appear.However this means that the button group consumes click events across the entire width of the screen. How can I make the entire button appear, and have only the area of the button respond to clicks? Hard-coding the width of the drawable is not a particularly desirable solution.<RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout01" android:layout_width ="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/LinearLayout02" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_below ="@+id/LinearLayout01" android:visibility="invisible"><RadioGroup android :id ="@+id/ RadioGroup01" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:checkedButton="@+id/RB01" android:layout_width="fill_parent">
<RadioButton android:id="@+id/RB01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:button="@drawable/DR01"/><RadioButton android:id="@+id/RB02" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:button="@drawable/DR02"/>
<RadioButton android:id="@+id/RB03" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:button="@drawable/DR03"/> <RadioButton android:id="@+id/RB04" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:button="@drawable/DR04"/> </RadioGroup></LinearLayout>
Followed the instructions in http://developer.android.com/sdk/adding-components.html for adding 2.0 as components to an existing 1.6 SDK, from within Eclipse.
It didn't work. Not by a long shot. Instead, it got partway through and then said that C:android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 tempDocPackage.new01 couldn't be copied because of a lock, and similarly for PlatformPackage.new01.
It said to shut down running programs, but the only program running was Eclipse, which was needed to do the upgrade.
The cancel button was disabled, and the close box didn't work. Shutting down Eclipse killed it, but left C:android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 in a corrupted state. Restarting Eclipse showed the Android projects with errors, no SDK, and a disabled Android SDK and AVD Manager (which means no ability to rerun the install).
Shutting down Eclipse, renaming the corrupted SDK directory, unzipping 1.6 again into C:, and restarting Eclipse made it as if nothing had ever happened, which is good. But it is not possible to complete the install from Eclipse, which is bad.
The dialog says:

So the other day I went to download an app out of the market. The download finished, but it seems my phone decided to auto-reboot itself in the midst of the installation. After the reboot completes, I go back to the market, reselect the app, and it's hung at "Installing..." (And when I say "hung," the market is still fully functional except that one app). I'm given no option to cancel the installation. Killing the market app then trying to go back in has no effect - same deal. Hung on install. Another reboot didn't help.
Is there any way to delete the install package and make the market forget I even tried in the first place?
It's Angry Birds (wanted to see what all the fuss was about), but the install seems to have failed in a way that any app install could have failed.
When I run my application on a physical phone from within Eclipse, my Google MapView works perfectly. If export the app to an apk file and install it to the same phone from the command line with adb then the MapView comes up but shows only the Google logo and grid - no map tiles appear. I'm using a debug application key and a GMaps API key generated with that debug key. I've verified that this happens on both the Droid and N1 phones. The logcat looks identical in both the working and non-working cases - no obvious error messages.
View 2 Replies View RelatedYes we have threads about this already but we still have not gotten an answer AND I think it's about time somebody at least explain what does this number actually MEAN. I'm getting frustrated with the lack of transparency on this.
My apps used to be around 56% active installs
VERY soon after I updated the apps to allow install to SDCARD (preferExternal), then the active install count started dropping like a rock. Now it's around 39% today for my main app.
My opinion is there is a bug in the SDCARD install feature somewhere that is not counting those installs. We know there already is a bug with home screen icons if you install to sdcard you will get a blank icon until the Home app restarts.
Anybody knows the install command to install an apk in system/app directory .
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know the maximum file size you can copy to your SD card via USB.I have tried to put a couple movies on there, and avi files that are about 700mb work fine, but if I try to put a 4GB video on there, it gives me a error instantly saying something about invalid paramater.The card is the stock 8gb one that came with the phone, and it was not even close to being full when I tried this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out how to get the size of an installed app.What's already failed:
- new File('/data/app/some.apk')
- reports incorrect size
- PackageManager.getPackageSizeInfo(String packageName, IPackageStatsObserver observer) - is @hide and relies on some obscure IPackageStatsObserver for result so I can't call it via reflection.
i'm trying to know the database space available. In J2ME you have getSizeAvailable(), but there is no direct replacement in Android, so i thought about doing getMaximumSize() minus database size, the thing is i just can't find a way to know the db actual size, at runtime.
View 1 Replies View Relatedperhaps it is just me but my phone, wife's phone and the phone in the Sprint store all have the same issue. Take a movie or a photo doesn't matter and try to share regardless of option and anything under 3mb goes it seems. Anyhting over gets "queued waiting for WiFi connection".Little upset with this as the Sprint peeps have no clue I'm not completely stupid and I can't figure it out. And frankly I'm paying for the hotsopt ability plus the extra charge for access to 4g, i live in a 4g market, Austin Texas I should be able to upload anything any size any time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my sd card from the stock 2 Gb to an 8 Gb. Looking at the size from the pc the size reported is correct, just under 8 Gb formatted FAT32. When I look at the a Total Space in the phone it reports just over 7.5 Mb. Anybody know what I did wrong.I did copy the contents of the old card to the pc first, there were no partitions and then copied the data to the new card but the size is being reported incorrectly.
