How do install a *.apk from adb command line?
First I tried to cp the *.apk from /sdcard/backups/apps to /system/app (after rw mounting the file system of course)
I did successfully move it to /system/app but the *apk was not "installed"
then I rm it and tried:
install /sdcard/backups/appa/<package>.apk /system/app
and it copied the *apk to /system/app but still was not "installed"
I also tried:
install /system/app/<package>*apk but got the error dialog:
Code:
BusyBox v1.19.0.git.adrynalyne (2010-12-21 22:03:30 MST) multi-call binary.
Usage: install [-cdDsp] [-o USER] [-g GRP] [-m MODE] [SOURCE]... DEST

-o USERSet ownership

My goal is to figure out how to use adb command line and also I want to install an app as if it were a pre-installed app. For example pre-installed apps don't show up as a removable app and stay installed after a factory reset.
I would like to "deploy" .apk files to a set of tablets for student use in the school. Every now and then I will be required to install new apps across a range of devices. I have sorted out the transfer of the apk files to the tablets using an app called "FolderSync" so that the files will be local on the SD Card. Hopefully this part should not be problematic. Due to the fact that the tablets will be used by students, I want to make the process of installing the apps as automated as possible. Using the command "pm install <app.apk>" command I have achieved this step also. My trouble is that I will require the script to improvise and find all apk files in a folder and install them. So far I have tried the following:
Code:
su
cd /sdcard/FolderSync/
find *.apk -exec "pm install {}" ;
However this returns "find: pm install app.apk: No such file or directory" This may be more of a Linux issue than android, or maybe even just me missing something obvious, however I have tried adjusting the syntax here and there and can't figure out how to successfully install a directory of .apk files.
Is there a way to send a system app to another android-phone and install it there? (install the nexus S launcher on x8 or galaxy s2). I always get the message:
"✓ application not installed" (my Android is german, "✓ Anwendung nicht installiert")
Looking for link for the system requirements to install and run Android v. 4.3? Is there a common repository for this. I have an old system and wish to determine if I can get the latest O/S loaded and operational. I will need to load it via KDZ.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat implications does upgrading an app have on stored data i.e. Preferences and database? Does the system perform a clean install of the new version(i.e. remove the older version and then install the new) or something else? What if the user wants to retain the stored data- say values in the shared preference or a sqlite database? How can I emulate this app-update-install scenario? If I have a version 'x' installed on my emulator and I do a adb install of version 'x+1' I am getting INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXIST error. Should I try hosting the new apk on a Web server, will the Package Manager take this as an update and do the needful?
View 2 Replies View Related1) I am using Eclipse IDE and Android SDK 2.1 for my application. My application reads some data files from the File System, so using DDMS i push all the files in "/data/data/com.mypackage/" folder and run my application on emulator. I am able to see my desired output properly on the emulator.
2) Now i have Android device and i don't know how to push the files in the Internal memory of the phone. I have installed driver CD. But it only shows me the SD card directory.
3) Actually what i want is that the moment my application is installed and run it should read the data files from the file system. So there should be no added efforts to push the files in the file system.
4)Means can i pack my data files with my .apk file and when the apk is getting installed can the data files be placed directly in the internal memory(file system) i.e. "/data/data/com.mypackage/" folder. Is this possible ?
i tried installing a themed news and weather widget to system/app and it's not working properly. it's not showing up on the phone under widgets or in the app launcher. it's not showing up in root explorer in system/app even though it said it was pasted there. it shows up in applications in the settings menu but force closes when clicked on. i also can't install it in data now either. so right now the app is kind of in limbo.

I have made a little application pushed in /system/app with adb qui connect to a server and sometime download apk for updating/installing apk on the device.
My application is a kind of "updater". I alreay can : install new apk
But I can't update an apk which is already installed in /system/app/
I don't know why, but the update is in /data/app/my-update-1.apk
The application use the new version but, if i reboot the device (a Tao3530 tsunami board), the apk in /data/app/ is deleted and the old /system/app/original.apk version used.
How could i update an /system/app apk ? (without using ADb of course). If i need to use SU command (to push from download folder to /system/app, how could i root the board ?*
Few days ago I was wiping my phone to install another rom and besides wiping data and cache, I also made the huge mistake of wiping SYSTEM... My phone now just boots into recovery and nothing else.
I have an Efox Smart e4, equals to no.1 s6 and hdc galaxy s4 according to other posts here. MTK 6589, 1gb internal, 1,84gb internal sd.
The first custom rom that i installed was Essefour no.1 s6 by iceman and also the touch recovery. The rom performed great but I wanted to solve the issue that the phone kept switching between sd external and internal randomly. Also, I wanted to merge the internal memory with the internal sd so I was gonna try another rom. With this problem, was even trying the stock rom but to no avail.
When I try to install the Smart e4 factory rom for cwm and I get status 7.
E:Resource type (image) failed to load
Installing /sdcard/SMART-E4_V1.0_V01_2013-10-29_CWM.zip

assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img", "boot")
Error in /sdcard/SMART-E4_V1.0_V01_2013-10-29_CWM.zip

Other roms it just fails.
Right now, my computer windows 8.1 x64 can't identify correctly my phone, only access the sd. So can't do any adb push. In download mode it identifies as lenovo composite interface?? and cdc serial, the last I can't install. In other modes, I get gt-9500 but with the yellow triangle.
Okay so i have this really old phone (Samsung Captivate) with a really awesoem clock app. But its a system app and i want to install it on one of my other phones (Galaxy Nexus) as a user app.
They both are NOT running stock ROM. In fact the Cappy is on 4.2.1 and the Nexus on 4.2.2.
Not a big differnece, right? So i presume this would be possible.
Before you ask, i did do research on this and found nothing but moving one user app from one phone to another phone as a user app, etc. Nothing with moving a system app from one phone to user app on another. (My phone is dead at the moment)
is there any way to install google chrome as a system app?
If i manually move the apk file to system/app using root explorer, reboot my phone and then open the app it gives an error saying that the installation is not complete...
How to install a stock image on my Acer Iconia A1-810 tablet, I've been stucked in a bootloop, because I failed at rooting it, that i could partially solve using an update via the recovery (it failed but now my tablet can be launched at least). So now, I'd like to install a stock rom to make everything back to normal but I absolutely don't know how to do.
I tried via adb/fastboot but the commands aren't responding on the device.
Also the main problem is that it seems there are no custom recovery available (CWM) for this tablet.
Why I can't update my device using the OTA update (reboot + fail each time), I checked with root checker and others apps like that, no root detected (I uninstalled the root using the toolkit available here [URL] .........
Followed the instructions in http://developer.android.com/sdk/adding-components.html for adding 2.0 as components to an existing 1.6 SDK, from within Eclipse.
It didn't work. Not by a long shot. Instead, it got partway through and then said that C:android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 tempDocPackage.new01 couldn't be copied because of a lock, and similarly for PlatformPackage.new01.
It said to shut down running programs, but the only program running was Eclipse, which was needed to do the upgrade.
The cancel button was disabled, and the close box didn't work. Shutting down Eclipse killed it, but left C:android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 in a corrupted state. Restarting Eclipse showed the Android projects with errors, no SDK, and a disabled Android SDK and AVD Manager (which means no ability to rerun the install).
Shutting down Eclipse, renaming the corrupted SDK directory, unzipping 1.6 again into C:, and restarting Eclipse made it as if nothing had ever happened, which is good. But it is not possible to complete the install from Eclipse, which is bad.
The dialog says:

How or if I can push apps to the system folder so they load natively. I can use terminal or adb.

When I run my application on a physical phone from within Eclipse, my Google MapView works perfectly. If export the app to an apk file and install it to the same phone from the command line with adb then the MapView comes up but shows only the Google logo and grid - no map tiles appear. I'm using a debug application key and a GMaps API key generated with that debug key. I've verified that this happens on both the Droid and N1 phones. The logcat looks identical in both the working and non-working cases - no obvious error messages.
View 2 Replies View RelatedYes we have threads about this already but we still have not gotten an answer AND I think it's about time somebody at least explain what does this number actually MEAN. I'm getting frustrated with the lack of transparency on this.
My apps used to be around 56% active installs
VERY soon after I updated the apps to allow install to SDCARD (preferExternal), then the active install count started dropping like a rock. Now it's around 39% today for my main app.
My opinion is there is a bug in the SDCARD install feature somewhere that is not counting those installs. We know there already is a bug with home screen icons if you install to sdcard you will get a blank icon until the Home app restarts.
So the other day I went to download an app out of the market. The download finished, but it seems my phone decided to auto-reboot itself in the midst of the installation. After the reboot completes, I go back to the market, reselect the app, and it's hung at "Installing..." (And when I say "hung," the market is still fully functional except that one app). I'm given no option to cancel the installation. Killing the market app then trying to go back in has no effect - same deal. Hung on install. Another reboot didn't help.
Is there any way to delete the install package and make the market forget I even tried in the first place?
It's Angry Birds (wanted to see what all the fuss was about), but the install seems to have failed in a way that any app install could have failed.
I would like to know how to execute a system command from an android application?
For example :
I would like to create a directory while I am running an application, so i need to execute the command "mkdir -p /x/y".
I have a rooted samsung captivate with sideloading enabled. After experimenting with different wifi tethering apps from the unofficial market, I began experiencing difficulties with my wifi connection. Even after uninstalling every app that I thought was changing the wifi state, the problem still persists. I can turn on the wifi and it will act normally for about 30 seconds before turning off without user intervention. In dmesg, the error is as follows: 'mmc1: Got command interrupt 0x00060001 even though no command operation was in progress.' Is this caused by an app or is this a more complicated problem?
