Android :: Service Provider / Client

Oct 24, 2010

I am creating a service client and the following lines give me error. I was wondering how to fix these... // I have put in the service client stuff below...

private CheckZone mBoundService; private ServiceConnection mConnection = new ServiceConnection() { public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName CheckZone, IBinder service) { // This is called when the connection with the service has been // established, giving us the service object we can use to // interact with the service. Because we have bound to a explicit // service that we know is running in our own process, we can // cast its IBinder to a concrete class and directly access it. mBoundService = ((CheckZone.LocalBinder)service).getService();

//This line complians about binding, and states that it can not be resolved. How do I fix this please? Toast.makeText(binding.this, "Connected to CheckZone", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); }

Android : Possible To Create Client Server App - Wifi?

Sep 21, 2010

I am new to developing applications for android but have developed my first app. I have following questions.

1. Is it possible to create a client server app? I mean the application on one phone acting as server and applications on other phones sending/receiving data from it?

2. Create a wifi network (may be using bluetooth) for the above client server app. The idea being not to use the mobile service provide network but rather a local network.

Android :: Saving CookieStore In Http Client Service

Feb 9, 2010

I have a Service for my Android app that performs HTTP calls. The Service stores cookies in a CookieStore. I am trying to find a way to persist the CookieStore but I haven't been successful. I don't want the user to log in every time to receive a new CookieStore.

I tried to use SharedPreferences to store the CookieStore as a string, but I can't re-construct the CookieStore with a String.

Has anyone else had success in persisting a CookieStore?

I already cache an AIDL callback reference to the client, but not sure how I can use this for identification.

Android : Unable To Start Service Intent Error In Client-Server Project / Fix It?

Feb 12, 2009

I am getting the below error when ever i am trying to call the bind service. 02-12 20:17:25.486: WARN/ActivityManager(58): Unable to start service Intent { action=oem.android.proj2.IRemoteService }: not found

I have created the Client-Server application. At the Server site i have used the AIDL to impliment the interfaces in my Service class. At Client site i have exposed the AIDL interfaces and have one Activity that mainly do the IPC mechanism , i mean ServiceConnection, bindService and then call the Serivce of the Client site. But i am getting the error i mentioned during the bindService call.

Could you please let me know the steps mainly i have to follow to run the Client -Server Application. For time being i am running the Client .apk first and then the Server .apk, but the server one giving me error.

It would be great if you could let me know what all permission short of thing to take care, as my Client and Server code are placed at different APks, so do i need to import the Client project in my Server Project, if yes then how to impliment that.

Android :: How To Create BKS - BouncyCastle - Format Java Keystore That Contains A Client Certificate Chain

Oct 31, 2010

I'm writing an Android app that requires SSL client authentication. I know how to create a JKS keystore for a desktop Java application, but Android only supports the BKS format. Every way I've tried to create the keystore results in the following error:
handling exception: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: null cert chain

So it looks like the client is never sending a proper certificate chain, probably because I'm not creating the keystore properly. I'm unable to enable SSL debugging like I can on the dekstop, so that's making this much more difficult than it should be.

For reference the following is the command that IS working to create a BKS truststore:
keytool -importcert -v -trustcacerts -file "cacert.pem" -alias ca -keystore "mySrvTruststore.bks" -provider org.bouncycastle.jce.provider.BouncyCastleProvider -providerpath "bcprov-jdk16-145.jar" -storetype BKS -storepass testtest

Here is the command I've tried that is NOT working to create a BKS client keystore:

Android :: SIP Client With VOIP Call Plan

Aug 22, 2010

I am finally ditching Vonage. I got tired of taking the receiver everywhere I go. I want to place VOIP calls on my EVO.I am looking for a replacement. Of course I would like to use my data plan and/or WiFi to place VOIP calls.I have read several threads on how to configure SIP clients to get free calls over WiFi; but that's not really what I am looking for. I place a few calls abroad on a regular basis. I need to find a VOIP provider (I don't mind paying) that is compatible with a SIP client on Android.I have looked around and found a couple of companies. these three have caught my attention.Does anybody have any experience with any of these companies? How is the service? Do you really get what you pay for?Would you advise on other solutions? Please share your experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Android :: Android Remote Service Doesn't Call Service Methods

May 28, 2010

I'm developing a GPS tracking software on android. I need IPC to control the service from different activities. So I decide to develop a remote service with AIDL.This wasn't a big problem but now it's always running into the methods of the interface and not into those of my service class. Maybe someone could help me?If i now try to call a method from an activity for example start(trackId) nothing happens. The binding is OK. When debugging it always runs into the startTracking() in the generated ITrackingServiceRemote.java file and not into my TrackingService class. Where is the problem? I can't find anything wrong.

Android :: Need To Create Singleton Service?

Feb 11, 2010

I'd like to know if it's possible to create a Singleton Service throughout an application ? Let's say I'd like to cerate a Service to play some mp3... I'd like it to be a Singleton, we don't want two mp3 tracks playing through each other (well maybe some would want that, but in my case I'm not making a DJ app) :P Also this Service should be somewhat dynamic as in there should be some interface so that I can stop, pauze and play the mp3 file/ stream. Now I have a couple of questions : - is this feasible ? - should I be using a Service or something else ? - how can an interface be set up in between an application and a service so that I can start, stop, pauze stuff ? - can there be something like a Singleton Service?

Android :: How To Create Service With Callbacks

Jul 7, 2010

I'm working on a service for my application whose purpose is to allow easy access to various web services we are running. The service is used to maintain a login state across any applications that want to use it so the user only has to log in once when the service is first started.

What is the best way to go about making the service run asynchronously and call back to the application when it is finished. Currently I am using static classes that extend Thread such as

CODE:.....

And to make it easy to call

CODE:....................

But these functions can only be called by my own application. I want anyone to be able to make a one or two line function call and be able to handle the response easily, preferably in a simple callback method.

I figure it has to be done using Intents to start the Threads, but if I do that I can't pass a callback.

Android :: Trying To Create A Service With Application Lifecycle

Jul 8, 2010

I am trying to create a Servicefor my application which will negotiate Bluetooth connections and data. I want this service's lifecycle to start and end with the Application, but still be able to have specific Activities listen for events that occur within this service (in addition an Activty should be able to call specific methods of the Service to write data or query connection state).

I started by creating AIDL interfaces for my callbacks and service, but I can't figure out exactly what I'm doing.

How is the best way to go about this? EDIT: To be clear, I do not specifically need (or want) more than one process for my application. Right now I don't have more than one; I'm just using AIDL because it is the only way I know of for a Service to communicate with an Activity.

I want to create a service that runs on Android which can collect all of my location information. Either write the information to a file or send to a server using 3G/wiki network. I was thinking about using a service that runs forever as a daemon. After reading "Diamonds are forever, services are not" by Mark Murphy, I realized that it is not a good idea. However, I need to somehow acquire the moving trajectory information on the Android phone. Without a daemon service running forever, how do I do that ?

Android :: Need To Create A Background Service That Listens For Actions

Aug 26, 2010

I'm new to the android platform, and I need to create a background service that listens for actions from different applications, the home activity, menu items in different apps, etc. Is it enought to call several event listeners and pass the different home activity events (and events from other activities) to the listeners? If so, what exactly to I pass to my event listener? Is the home activity an object that I can call? What is it and how do I pass it? Otherwise how to I listen for user interaction with variouse elements of a given view/activity? I need the listeners to trigger an activity that occurs before the event they asked for. For example. 1. They press the arrow button on the homescreen. Before it pops up, a picture pops up on the screen.

Android : How Can A Service Call StartService On Itself?

Jul 19, 2010

I have a Service which is typically bound to, but sometimes needs to go into a mode where it should be active even if nobody is bound to it. Therefore, startService() must be called so it can be explicitly started & stopped. In my case, when exactly this should happen is best determined by the service itself, depending on its state (after being bound to). Can the Service (at the appropriate time) just call startService() from it's own Context?
