Android :: Saving CookieStore In Http Client Service

I have a Service for my Android app that performs HTTP calls. The Service stores cookies in a CookieStore. I am trying to find a way to persist the CookieStore but I haven't been successful. I don't want the user to log in every time to receive a new CookieStore.
I tried to use SharedPreferences to store the CookieStore as a string, but I can't re-construct the CookieStore with a String.
Has anyone else had success in persisting a CookieStore?

i'm sending an http request to the google reader api and getting an unusual response code. following the documentation, i've requested an auth code and included it in the header of every request. after performing the login, and getting an auth code, i tried accessing this url, which is part of the documentation: http://www.google.com/reader/api/0/stream/items/contents when i send the request, i get a 411 status code, which is supposed to mean "Length Required". the length, as i've found, is supposed to be the length, in octets, of the message body. there is no message body in this request. there is only a single header, the POST parameter i="item id" and the URL itself. i tried setting the "Content-Length" header to "0" and also to "-1" to no avail. what's really interesting is that this same code worked fine before google changed their authorization procedure. it's apparent they've changed something else. so my question is what EXACTLY would cause a 411 response code and how can i prevent it?

I have been trying to use httpclient to post data on https (secure). I have searched all forums of android but I could not find any solution that works with httpclient on https. I have seen some solutions using HttpsURLConnection. and SSLContext. I would like to go with httpclient not URLConnection as I require to manage cookies and al. I am looking for your exert advice on above matter..............

I am new to Android development since my EVO purchase a few months ago. Anyway, I am developing my first Android app using Eclipse and Android SDK emulator. I am trying to do a simple HTTP POST. My real code has my login information hard coded in so I replaced it with test information and I changed the url as well to simply POST to google.com. I'm doing a Get and Post method for an android project and I need to "translate" HttpClient 3.x to HttpClient 4.x (using by android).
My problem is that I'm not sure of what I have done and I don't find the "translation" of some methods...

I've been working on an app that uses both GET and POST requests to Web Services. The GET requests are no problems but the POST requests are killing me. I've tried 2 different scenarios in the code. The first looks like this...

It's a long garbled mess of xml and SOAP that does have a SOAP Exception mentioned in it..."Server was unable to process request. --- System.Xml.XmlException: Data at the root level is invalid. I am running a background Android Service as VoIP Framework which provides different VoIP services to different Android applications, (VoIP call, Video Call, etc). The service establishes a network connection with the Server(Service Provider) and does some initial handshake before it can start providing service to the Android applications, that's why though of starting the service on BOOT_COMPLETED event.
The problem is when the service gets started on BOOT_COMPLETED event, before even it finishes the initial network connection with server and handshaking, it gets killed by the system. I have tried using setForeground which improves the behavior a bit but still gets killed mid-way. I am working with old version 1.5 r3 of SDK and hence, cannot use "startForeground". Is there a way out or another alternative available with SDK 1.5 r3?

I've been researching how to best implement a service which performs a network transaction and returns data to the caller.
Clearly, this needs to happen on its own thread which means some form of async response. I can see at least three ways of doing this--some more complex than others. In the descriptions below, C is the caller, S is the service.
1) C wraps a Handler in a Messenger object, adds this to an Intent. C then calls startService with this intent. S extends IntentService which runs the Intents received in a worker thread. S then sends a message to C via the Messenger. This has the benefit of not requiring any of the async binding process or making an IDL interface that needs to be compiled into C. This seems to be the closes to a Handler-based response mechanism of Local Services.
2) C binds to S and then uses AsyncTask<> to make a blocking call to S. S performs the network transaction and returns the data in the return value or an out parameter. This requires the async binding process, but does not require a callback function since the inter- thread communications is handled by AsyncTask<> and the worker thread is in C's context.
3) Make the function called in S be completely asynchronous. S defines two interfaces: IMyService and IMyServiceCallback. S implements IMyService.Stub. C implements IMyServiceCallback.Stub. C binds to S then calls S via IMyService, passing its IMyServiceCallback binder. S spins up a worker thread and returns immediately. S then calls the callback when it has completed the network transaction.
I am asking for advice on which methods are most appropriate. I do not need the the service running constantly, only when the web transaction is required. C does not use S all the time--definitely don't want to bind during C's onCreate. However, I would like the time from when C determines it needs to use S to getting the results back to be as quick as possible (i.e. adding minimal latency to the already latent network access).
Is there any preference to having the worker thread in C or in S? Are there any significant problems with option 1?

GI am trying to do a http post to a php script. the method works if I place it in the onCreate event of the application but gets a ConnectionTimeOut error when it tries to execute it from the service.

I am trying to integrate the application I am developing with google calendar. The code I wrote for the calendar integration works in a java standalone project.
The problem is that I am getting an error when in my app I do the actions that uses the code that "talks" to the calendar api. I have created a "libs" folder in the root of my app project to put all the libraries I need. Then add jar from the build path config screen (in eclipse).

In the implementation of my remote service's published API, is there a way to identify which client called a given method? For example, is there a way to obtain a unique ID or address of the caller? I already cache an AIDL callback reference to the client, but not sure how I can use this for identification.

I have created the Client-Server application. At the Server site i have used the AIDL to impliment the interfaces in my Service class. At Client site i have exposed the AIDL interfaces and have one Activity that mainly do the IPC mechanism , i mean ServiceConnection, bindService and then call the Serivce of the Client site. But i am getting the error i mentioned during the bindService call.
Could you please let me know the steps mainly i have to follow to run the Client -Server Application. For time being i am running the Client .apk first and then the Server .apk, but the server one giving me error.
It would be great if you could let me know what all permission short of thing to take care, as my Client and Server code are placed at different APks, so do i need to import the Client project in my Server Project, if yes then how to impliment that.

I'm trying to use the Amazon Web Services java sdk jar but it has references to org.apache.commons.httpclient. All I seem to have in my Android sdk is org.apache.commons.http.client, which is a different namespace and obviously causes the build to fail. I'm new to Java and Android dev... is there a way to "map" one to the other or create some sort of symbolic link? If not, does that mean I have to import a "standard" org.apache.commons library?

I am trying to run the sample soft keyboard included in the SDK. I am using the debugger, and the literature says that to use a breakpoint while debugging a SERVICE, I need to include:
android.os.Debug.waitForDebugger();
So here is the portion of the code I modified:

This is what happens: the debugger first stops at the breakpoint1, for a few seconds. But then the service restarts. For the life of me I can't figure out what makes the service to restart.

My service works exactly the way i want as long as i use start and stop and communicate using intents. However my activity needs to change the state of my service as well as retrieving state information.So i thought it would be nice to broadcast some kind of state_changed event from my service and use a binder interface to pull information from the service or change the services state based on user input.This works fine too. The only problem is that my service gets killed when i unbind it just as the documentation says.Is there any way to keep the service alive but still get an interface to control it directly. My activity offers the user a way to stop the service and the service kills itself anyway after it's work is done but i don't want the service to stop every time the activity is destroyed.
