View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to develop a application on Android platform to connect to salesforce. From what i have found salesforce provides service API's which can be used to connect to salesforce servers by creating a Web service from the client side application. Salesforce developer site has examples of creating such a Web service by using Apache Axis as the SOAP client and using the WSDL file downloaded from the salesforce website. I want to know can this be done from Android platform? Is there a version of Apache Axis ported for Android? I did some googling and could find that Android does not have a inbuilt SOAP client and usually Ksoap is used on Android. But I have also read that KSOAP doesnt support WSDL. I have seen the above question asked before but quite a while ago, As Android platform has emerged eversince I want to know what is the current situation and options of doing this. Also, Since I am new to Android and development on Android if anyone can direct me to a sample code snippet, which creates a Web Service from android to connect to salesforce, I would be higly grateful.Edit: Is there any other way to develop an Salesforce client on Android without the above approach?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm brand new to android and developing in general. I'm using android's SDK with eclipse Galileo. I've followed several tutorials to create different layouts. I've even learned recently how to use radio buttons and verify which ones were selected. Now I need to create a service that downloads and updates an xml file within the application. I've tried to locate a simple tutorial for services on Google's developer site but so far, so bad. If they exist could somebody point me in the right direction?
On the other hand, I've been told Google's tutorials are a little out dated. Is that true? If so, are there any other tutorials that would hand-hold (and possibly over-explain) how to use a service to a true newbie for free (like google)?
I have a Music Player application and music plays continuously even user comes out of application UI. I have read that such background processing should be done with service in android. How to do that?any idea?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible implement an Android application as a web service? On the official site I've read:
Note: If you want to develop a server-side application, we recommend that you implement your application as a servlet running in a servlet engine like Tomcat or full-blown JSEE container like Geronimo. If you prefer to implement a server-side application based on our HttpService, we'll assume that you know what you're doing and that you don't need help in figuring out which interceptors need to be configured.
How can I implement this? Apache TOMCAT can run on Android?
I am creating a service client and the following lines give me error. I was wondering how to fix these... // I have put in the service client stuff below...
private CheckZone mBoundService; private ServiceConnection mConnection = new ServiceConnection() { public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName CheckZone, IBinder service) { // This is called when the connection with the service has been // established, giving us the service object we can use to // interact with the service. Because we have bound to a explicit // service that we know is running in our own process, we can // cast its IBinder to a concrete class and directly access it. mBoundService = ((CheckZone.LocalBinder)service).getService();
//This line complians about binding, and states that it can not be resolved. How do I fix this please? Toast.makeText(binding.this, "Connected to CheckZone", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); }

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Service for my Android app that performs HTTP calls. The Service stores cookies in a CookieStore. I am trying to find a way to persist the CookieStore but I haven't been successful. I don't want the user to log in every time to receive a new CookieStore.
I tried to use SharedPreferences to store the CookieStore as a string, but I can't re-construct the CookieStore with a String.
Has anyone else had success in persisting a CookieStore?
I am trying to integrate the application I am developing with google calendar. The code I wrote for the calendar integration works in a java standalone project.
The problem is that I am getting an error when in my app I do the actions that uses the code that "talks" to the calendar api. I have created a "libs" folder in the root of my app project to put all the libraries I need. Then add jar from the build path config screen (in eclipse).
The error: 05-26 14:18:54.512: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(3522): *java.lang.VerifyError: > com.google.gdata.client.Service*
In the implementation of my remote service's published API, is there a way to identify which client called a given method? For example, is there a way to obtain a unique ID or address of the caller? I already cache an AIDL callback reference to the client, but not sure how I can use this for identification.

I have created the Client-Server application. At the Server site i have used the AIDL to impliment the interfaces in my Service class. At Client site i have exposed the AIDL interfaces and have one Activity that mainly do the IPC mechanism , i mean ServiceConnection, bindService and then call the Serivce of the Client site. But i am getting the error i mentioned during the bindService call.
Could you please let me know the steps mainly i have to follow to run the Client -Server Application. For time being i am running the Client .apk first and then the Server .apk, but the server one giving me error.
It would be great if you could let me know what all permission short of thing to take care, as my Client and Server code are placed at different APks, so do i need to import the Client project in my Server Project, if yes then how to impliment that.

I am looking to start a project that will involve the use of soap quite extensively. However... I know nothing about it! I was wondering if the community here could point me towards a few of the choicer tutorials on the net instead of having to wade through countless sub-par search results. And when I say I know nothing about it, I mean I know that its like an online api to some extent, but really that is it.
This would be used in conjunction with an android app, so I suppose I should also ask if android sdk even supports soap/ is this even a valid question? I really am clueless here.
I have some back end web services, SOAP web services. I would like to create an android client to use these. I'm under the impression that SOAP style web services are non trivial to setup on android, and I would prefer to use REST if possible Is there any utility that can convert REST calls to SOAP and back again? Or will I need to create my own application that listens for REST calls, makes the appropriate SOAP calls, then sends the response back as REST?
