View 8 RepliesI am a life long (so far but not for long!) WinMo user because up until now (2.2 release of Froyo) I have always assumed Android wasn't as elegant, capable, and smooth as Windows (YES, I WAS WRONG).So now that I'm ready to make the switch... does Android offer any service, through my Google log-in perhaps, to back up all my contacts to the cloud (with pictures and files as well, or is the data limited) I am with Verizon and have had this sluggish Touch Pro 2 for far too long, and have an annual upgrade I'm either going to put to use on with the Droid 2, or the X!

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any easy (preferably free) way that I can backup/sync my DCIM (pictures) to the "cloud"?
I probably don't need something that does it automatically. I think doing it on-demand when I want to would be fine.
I almost never need to connect my phone to the PC anymore, so I'd really love a way to safely backup the pictures without having to do so.
I am currently using SMS Backup+ to backup my messages. It works great but it does not restore MMS messages. Any app that backs up to a cloud service and restores everything including all MMS with the associated pictures, files, videos, etc.

I don't quite know where to place this, but I have Rom toolbox pro and I want everything backed up, so when I do a system reset, I get everything back. I can backup phone data, but I don't see an option to back it up on dropbox. Am I overlooking something?
Oh, also, can I only back up app data to the cloud, and not the entire app? I'll just download it when I need it, but, I'd like the app settings on the cloud.
I enabled TB to sync to Dropbox this morning and it's at 78% after about 3 hours. I'd like to sync to the cloud regularly, but I can't afford half a day to do so. If after the initial backup will it only upload changes or does it upload all the backed up files each time?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSpecifically related to when/how often the backup is sent from phone to google servers, and whether that data is accessible from somewhere other than the DROID.I'm curious as to how to plan restores if a install a jacked up app.I've done a hard reset already, in an attempt to cure the 3g -> 1x issue, and was surprised the auto-restore re-installed my wallpaper without any type of user intervention.
View 6 Replies View RelatedOK, new to Droid, moved over from Windows Phone. I've got a nice account setup already with SkyDrive along now with the Samsung Cloud thing and Dropbox. For some reason, DropBox has not upgraded me to the larger size account like they should have after I registered my new Note2 device and did all the other things they say you have to do in order to get granted the larger file allotment.
So, anyway, I have a 25gb account already setup with Skydrive and have quite a few files on there that I use regularly. I have a couple of the browsers on my phone and they work well to gain access to the files and such. What I really want is to actually add SkyDrive to my Cloud. When I go to Settings, Cloud, it shows Samsung and Dropbox, but does not give me any option to install or gain access to Skydrive. Is there some way I can install this on my phone and get the system to recognize it as another option for my Cloud services?
I'm programming an android application using the StartActivityForResult() - Method.
But, i want to get as result an own class, not a string or something like that.
how can i tell the intent to use the class i wrote to give back?
Im trying to do the backing up of my application's data into the Google Servers.. For doing this i've implemented a BackupAgent in my code and i included this in the Android Manifest file and "Meta-data" ( Got after registered my Application's package with the Android Backup Service.) When i run the application to do the backup this is not performing the backup.. Im using Nexus one device(connected to WIFI also). why it is not calling my BackupAgent's onBackup() method?? Am i missing some thing, to include in the Android manifest file or some where in the program?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've created a single primary Ext2 partition in my phone's external SD card but Android refuses to mount it automatically. Whenever I attempted to mount it manually it kept throwing the error "mount operation not supported on transport endpoint".
How can I mount it?
Using (SlimKat) Android 4.4.2.
EDIT: I'm now able to mount it only manually but have to specify ext4 as its filesystem -- why and will it make a difference since ext2 is non-journalled? Also, I tried adding a mount entry in /fstab.smdk4x12 but it was deleted upon reboot; does this mean no manual entries are allowed in that file and I will instead have to hack my own /init-xx.rc file to manually mount the partition at boot time?
I want to hide my application from user so i just want to create service. Can some one tell me how can i create service only with out activity. Can some one tell me can i create only the service in whole project instead of activity. Is it feasible?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'd like to know if it's possible to create a Singleton Service throughout an application ? Let's say I'd like to cerate a Service to play some mp3... I'd like it to be a Singleton, we don't want two mp3 tracks playing through each other (well maybe some would want that, but in my case I'm not making a DJ app) :P Also this Service should be somewhat dynamic as in there should be some interface so that I can stop, pauze and play the mp3 file/ stream. Now I have a couple of questions : - is this feasible ? - should I be using a Service or something else ? - how can an interface be set up in between an application and a service so that I can start, stop, pauze stuff ? - can there be something like a Singleton Service?

I have checked some functions with logging (WeatherService is the class who extends Service):
CODE:........
It gives different hash codes even when I am sure that the same function is running twice (downloading):
CODE:............
I am binding a Activity to the service with:
CODE:.......................
And the service can run for minutes until it is completed, therefore the service can be binded to/created by many Activities.
I'm working on a service for my application whose purpose is to allow easy access to various web services we are running. The service is used to maintain a login state across any applications that want to use it so the user only has to log in once when the service is first started.
What is the best way to go about making the service run asynchronously and call back to the application when it is finished. Currently I am using static classes that extend Thread such as
CODE:.....
And to make it easy to call
CODE:....................
But these functions can only be called by my own application. I want anyone to be able to make a one or two line function call and be able to handle the response easily, preferably in a simple callback method.
I figure it has to be done using Intents to start the Threads, but if I do that I can't pass a callback.
I've read some of the earlier posts on this subject, but I've found them confusing.I'm trying to create a Client Application using Android 1.5 that can call a .NET Web Service using SOAP.I understand that the kSOAP2 library can help here and I've imported that into my Project.I need assistance in correctly using the kSOAP2 library to develop the application.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a Servicefor my application which will negotiate Bluetooth connections and data. I want this service's lifecycle to start and end with the Application, but still be able to have specific Activities listen for events that occur within this service (in addition an Activty should be able to call specific methods of the Service to write data or query connection state).
I started by creating AIDL interfaces for my callbacks and service, but I can't figure out exactly what I'm doing.
How is the best way to go about this? EDIT: To be clear, I do not specifically need (or want) more than one process for my application. Right now I don't have more than one; I'm just using AIDL because it is the only way I know of for a Service to communicate with an Activity.
I have a Service that creates AsyncTasks for downloading files. In activities, we create Runnables or Threads that we pass to Activity.runOnUiThread(). I can't access that method from a service, so how do I use AsyncTask correctly, (do heavy work without blocking the UI Thread)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to create a service that runs on Android which can collect all of my location information. Either write the information to a file or send to a server using 3G/wiki network. I was thinking about using a service that runs forever as a daemon. After reading "Diamonds are forever, services are not" by Mark Murphy, I realized that it is not a good idea. However, I need to somehow acquire the moving trajectory information on the Android phone. Without a daemon service running forever, how do I do that ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm new to the android platform, and I need to create a background service that listens for actions from different applications, the home activity, menu items in different apps, etc. Is it enought to call several event listeners and pass the different home activity events (and events from other activities) to the listeners? If so, what exactly to I pass to my event listener? Is the home activity an object that I can call? What is it and how do I pass it? Otherwise how to I listen for user interaction with variouse elements of a given view/activity? I need the listeners to trigger an activity that occurs before the event they asked for. For example. 1. They press the arrow button on the homescreen. Before it pops up, a picture pops up on the screen.

I've got another original T15A tablet and want to create a full backup of this and flash it to the bricked one.I found some guides on how to create a backup by connecting to an adb shell. This guides are all device specific and i now dont know.what to backup under /dev/blocks/ ....
- how to do a full backup / restore?
- Maybe we just can fix the 0 byte error (but i didnt find generic solution about that)
Code:
