Android : Need Software / Library To Convert REST To SOAP / Vice Versa?

Oct 4, 2010

I have some back end web services, SOAP web services. I would like to create an android client to use these. I'm under the impression that SOAP style web services are non trivial to setup on android, and I would prefer to use REST if possible Is there any utility that can convert REST calls to SOAP and back again? Or will I need to create my own application that listens for REST calls, makes the appropriate SOAP calls, then sends the response back as REST?

Android :: Call To .NET Web Service Timed Out - Dev Using KSOAP2

Sep 4, 2010

I'm getting a Java Socket Exception "Operation timed out" when trying to call a .NET web service method. I've followed the many examples out there on the web to get my android to call a .net web service.

I'm running the web service using VS2010 in debug mode. The web method I'm calling is very simple -> "string GetVersion()"

I've read some posts that eclipse needs to be configured to access the internet by modifying the Proxy preferences "Preferences -> General -> Network Connections" from the Window menu item. I haven't been able to figure out exactly what I need to configure in the Proxy to get things to work if that is the problem.

I've also tried to access the .net web service root page (service.asmx) from my android with no success. I can access the asmx page with no problems using IE on the local machine. I've turned off the firewall and that didn't solve anything either. This is the first time I've tried to access a web service from a remote computer when it was running using VS2010 in debug mode.

I don't know if I have a configuration issue on the eclipse side or on the VS2010 side.

I'm also running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Below is a code snippet...

Android :: Passing Parameters Using KSoap2 To Net Web Service / Null Values

Dec 9, 2009

I'm having a problem in calling .net c# web services from android using ksoap2. The call is executed just fine without parameters, but when I pass parameters of any type, the web service just receives a null value. I tried everything possible but no luck so far. I hope someone can help, The client side code is:

public static boolean temp(){try {
SoapObject request = new SoapObject(NAMESPACE, METHOD_NAME_TEMP);
PopertyInfo p = new PropertyInfo();
p.type = PropertyInfo.INTEGER_CLASS;
p.setName("num");
p.setValue(5);
p.setNamespace(NAMESPACE);
request.addProperty(p);
SoapSerializationEnvelope envelope = new SoapSerializationEnvelope (SoapEnvelope.VER11 );
envelope.dotNet = true;
envelope.encodingStyle = SoapSerializationEnvelope.ENC;
envelope.setOutputSoapObject(request);
AndroidHttpTransport androidHttpTransport = new AndroidHttpTransport (URL);
androidHttpTransport.setXmlVersionTag("<?xml version= "1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>")
androidHttpTransport.call(SOAP_ACTION_TEMP, envelope); ....

Android :: Soap Client On Android To Access Salesforce APIs

Oct 20, 2010

I want to develop a application on Android platform to connect to salesforce. From what i have found salesforce provides service API's which can be used to connect to salesforce servers by creating a Web service from the client side application. Salesforce developer site has examples of creating such a Web service by using Apache Axis as the SOAP client and using the WSDL file downloaded from the salesforce website. I want to know can this be done from Android platform? Is there a version of Apache Axis ported for Android? I did some googling and could find that Android does not have a inbuilt SOAP client and usually Ksoap is used on Android. But I have also read that KSOAP doesnt support WSDL. I have seen the above question asked before but quite a while ago, As Android platform has emerged eversince I want to know what is the current situation and options of doing this. Also, Since I am new to Android and development on Android if anyone can direct me to a sample code snippet, which creates a Web Service from android to connect to salesforce, I would be higly grateful.Edit: Is there any other way to develop an Salesforce client on Android without the above approach?

Android : Create A Library For Different Classes?

Jul 17, 2010

I'm new to JNI, i'm developing a native library for an Android project. I read some papers about JNI programming but i didn't understand if it is possible to create a library that can be loaded in different project classes with different packages. I read that to declare a new JNI method the syntax is:

the prefix "Java_"
an encoded fully qualified class name
an underscore ("_") separator
an encoded method name

Based on this definition it shouldn't be possible...

Suppose i had defined a class A in the package pkg1 with the native method foo contained in libfoo, and then i defined a class B in the package pkg2. Can i use libfoo and the foo method in B? How should i define the native method to achieve the result?

Android :: Force To Create A Shared Jar Library?

Jul 30, 2009

I have several apps (each in its own apk, process etc) running at the same time on user's device.

these apps are all linked to a single common jar file (internally devloped) which contains a large portion of their overall code size.

is there a way for me to force Android to make this common jar load only once (e.g. into shared memory)?

the reason we want to do it this way, btw, are to reduction of each of the single apps memory intake, on disk footprint and possibly of their startup time.

Android : Create A Custom Library To Use Across Several Appilcations?

Dec 1, 2009

Is it possible to create a custom library in android (having its own layout resources) for use across several android applications?

I created a regular *.jar file but when I tried to create/style my views dynamically most of the properties do not work. Even referencing simple styles from the android.jar file such as android.attr.listSeparatorTextViewStyle did not work.

I created an android project without any Activity, having its own resource files and then referenced this project from another Android project to use in its build path. Everything seems to work fine but the emulator keeps crashing (with no meaningful error message in the LogCat) when I try to run the project.
