Android :: Swype Vs SlideIT Vs ShapeWriter

I'm using Swype now, but it is kind of frustrating me with its inconsistency adding words to the user dictionary. I also hate having to slide my finger off the keyboard to capitalize a letter and the fact that it doesn't auto-capitalize with new sentences. I used ShapeWriter previously, but I always had problems typing symbols with it, and the large number of proper nouns that came with its user dictionary really annoyed me. I have yet to try SlideIT.

Just wanted to see if we could get a poll going here on Sywpe versus SlideIT. I don't intend to get a vote for the best keyboard in the world, but rather a vote for your preferred of these two.

I bought this phone recently and it is on the way, coming to my hands hehehe
I really would appreciate to use SlideIt, ShapeWriter or Swype to type messages and everything. Dispite the QVGA, has anybody tried to use it? Anybody got it working on Tattoo?

Will i started with slideIT.. then switched to swype...
IMO slideIT is so much better..
I find it find my words better,,,deals with double letter better..i like how you can go back and it resuggests the word..i like how it puts a word on the line you are typing.. you dont have to look up to see if it guessed the right word..it puts a space before the word not after.. helpful when you forget to put a suffix like -s -ed -ing. they just did a update and its looks better then it did before..

What's the story with these two keyboards? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Yet my wife's Epic came with Swype...and she has NO use for it since it's got the slide out keyboard. I don't get it.

Trying slideit and love the horizontal word suggestions compared to vertical weird choice of swype but:
1) do I really have to hit shift then question mark or exclamation mark each time to punctuate?
2) if I write a word, then put in a numerical, there is no space
3) if I want to go back and as a letter to am already formed word, there is always a space put in automatically, impossible to change a word like dog into dogs, comes out like dog s
4) contacts not in slide it dictionary
Very possible its my inexperience, live swype, hate the venice distracting word suggestion

Guys I found an awsome keyboard that I believe to be better than Swype.It's called ShapeWriter keyboard, let me know what you guys think.I thought I had found a new keyboard but apparently its been out for awhile! Although it has it advantages and disadvatages over swype, I still like it! Sorry for posting this in the "root" forum, lol I forgot about the regular forum!

I have installed Swype beta and Shapewriter. After installing, form the home screen I press menu, settings, language & keyboard and click either swype or shape-writer.However, when I use an application like G mail, or the web browser, the droid default keyboard is displayed rather the swype or shape-writer,Any suggestions on where I need to adjust settings so that the default keyboard is either swype or shape-writer?I have used swype in the past and it worked great, unitil the beta expired. I just downloaded the new beta from the swype.com site. Just can't make it the default though.

I had been switching between the stock virtual keyboard and swype depending on the length and nature of what I was writing. Bt last night I downloaded shapewriter which does both just as easily as the 2 seperate apps (I found tap typing annoying on swype) shapewriter doesn't pick up words as easily as swype @ first bt after messing around with it for a couple of hours it became a lot easier. Point of this thread? Shapewriter is worth checking out, let me know what you think! Also, if you know of any other free keyboards worth checking out let me know.

I know Ultra comes with a lot of features. but I ONLY need the "swype" type features. and Money is not really an issue i know SlideIT costs more. which one works better overall for the Swype Features.

I had thought that the "Lite" version of SlideIT was nagware -- that you could use it for free as long as you were willing to put up with occasional interrupts by a pop-up asking you to buy the full version. That turns out not to be the case: the "Lite" version is actually a "demo" version that stops working after a while (apparently a week, if I have my dates straight).
Apart from the fact that it's deceptive advertising to promote a time-limited demo as a "Lite" version, the full version is still not available for purchase in the market.

Is there a way to get slideIT to have the number and symbol keys above the letter like in swype where you can just long press to get those to work? I love swype but sick of waiting for an official release and having to constantly find new apk's that work.

I have the Shapewriter keyboard v 3.0.9 - I love it and I would like to install the German language add on but it is not available in the Market anymore.
1) Is the language add on just a different keyboard layout or does it actually recognize the German words?
2) I found and downloaded com.shapewriter.android.imlanguage.german.apk but I cannot seem to install it. I get a Parse Error when I try to install using an app installed from the SD card... since it is an add on to another app do I need to install it is a different way?
3) If this file is not correct for my version, does anyone have the file or can you tell me where to download it?

Hey everybody I have a question I was hoping you fine people could help me with. I just got a warranty replacement for my eris. I had shapewriter on my old phone and I loved it. Now that I'm back to the standard keyboard its killing me. Since shapewriter is now off the market I can't redownload the app. Is there any way to get shapewriter off my old phone onto the new one? Or is there anyone that has another suggestion? Any help would be appreciated.

I've been having a lot of trouble with my phone running slower and lagging at the homescreen. I looked at memory usage and ShapeWriter uses a ton of a resources. Been running much smoother sine disabling it.

I can honestly say I like it tremendously better than swype.the ability to add words is a plus and the buttons seem bigger.can't find a shift button yet,but it does have a smiley face button.

I signed up for the beta testing a while back. Got this link in an email update from Swype. You have to uninstall swype and the old installer first. Access it from your Android phone. https://beta.swype.com/android/get/
