HTC Droid :: Getting Shapewriter Back On Eris
Jun 24, 2010Hey everybody I have a question I was hoping you fine people could help me with. I just got a warranty replacement for my eris. I had shapewriter on my old phone and I loved it. Now that I'm back to the standard keyboard its killing me. Since shapewriter is now off the market I can't redownload the app. Is there any way to get shapewriter off my old phone onto the new one? Or is there anyone that has another suggestion? Any help would be appreciated.

Mar 3, 2010I can honestly say I like it tremendously better than swype.the ability to add words is a plus and the buttons seem bigger.can't find a shift button yet,but it does have a smiley face button.

Jun 17, 2010I have installed Swype beta and Shapewriter. After installing, form the home screen I press menu, settings, language & keyboard and click either swype or shape-writer.However, when I use an application like G mail, or the web browser, the droid default keyboard is displayed rather the swype or shape-writer,Any suggestions on where I need to adjust settings so that the default keyboard is either swype or shape-writer?I have used swype in the past and it worked great, unitil the beta expired. I just downloaded the new beta from the swype.com site. Just can't make it the default though.

Mar 2, 2010I'm using Swype now, but it is kind of frustrating me with its inconsistency adding words to the user dictionary. I also hate having to slide my finger off the keyboard to capitalize a letter and the fact that it doesn't auto-capitalize with new sentences. I used ShapeWriter previously, but I always had problems typing symbols with it, and the large number of proper nouns that came with its user dictionary really annoyed me. I have yet to try SlideIT.

Sep 14, 2010I have the Shapewriter keyboard v 3.0.9 - I love it and I would like to install the German language add on but it is not available in the Market anymore.
1) Is the language add on just a different keyboard layout or does it actually recognize the German words?
2) I found and downloaded com.shapewriter.android.imlanguage.german.apk but I cannot seem to install it. I get a Parse Error when I try to install using an app installed from the SD card... since it is an add on to another app do I need to install it is a different way?
3) If this file is not correct for my version, does anyone have the file or can you tell me where to download it?

Jan 16, 2010I had been switching between the stock virtual keyboard and swype depending on the length and nature of what I was writing. Bt last night I downloaded shapewriter which does both just as easily as the 2 seperate apps (I found tap typing annoying on swype) shapewriter doesn't pick up words as easily as swype @ first bt after messing around with it for a couple of hours it became a lot easier. Point of this thread? Shapewriter is worth checking out, let me know what you think! Also, if you know of any other free keyboards worth checking out let me know.

May 18, 2010I am going to try taking my eris in to get it exchanged because of the silent phone problem. I am on leak 3. I have some questions first though.
- Will I even be able to have a legitimate complaint if I am on a leaked version?
- Will a new eris come with 2.1 or 1.5?
- if the new eris has 2.1 what are the chances of this happening again?
I cant stand having to reboot to use my phone as a phone.

I've been hearing different reviews regarding the Handcent vs. Chomp. Is there anything else out there that is pretty good? I actually like the default messaging on the Eris because it shows my pic and the contact's pic during the conversation. The only thing I really don't like is that you don't know when you reach your 160 characters because it doesn't have a counter (or does it and I don't have it activated maybe?).

Mar 22, 2010Anyone noticed how HOT their phone gets when using the Navigation option on Android 2.1 ? The navi app must be a CPU hog or maybe they've increased the power on the GPS module (isn't it an all-in-one chipset though ?). Try it for even a 1/2 hour and I think you'll be surprised at the temperature.
