I am not able to find out the perfect layout(viewgroup) to place four buttons as shown in the attached image. Basically, i want to place four buttons near the top/left/bottom/right edge of the screen. AbsoluteLayout helped, but it is deprecated (It is also better to avoid AbsoluteLayout as it is not very flexible for orientation changes)

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my application, I use a subclass of the Application object to store some references to complex objects I need to access from all of my activities. When my app starts, the startup activity checks one of these references, in this case a Location, and if it is null, it starts the LocationListeners which populate the reference for further use.If I back out of the app to the launcher screen, and re-launch it, the Application object still has the reference from the previous use a few moments prior. This is fine, and is what I'd expect, but I'm curious how long the Application object is kept around once I've back'ed out of my application? (onDestroy() has been called on all activities, nothing in the stack.)When is it finally killed? I know it does finally get killed as when I've not used the app in a while, it will search for location on startup (indicating the aforementioned null reference.)

- I power up the stick
- the stick loads with wifi internet connection preset
- the system automaticaly opens browser in full screen mode with predefined starting page
- the user cannot change settings
Is it posible to make this with some aps (I hope free) or is it better to get some modified ROM (which?). I know this functionality is used in so called KIOSK modes, but as I can see all this software is very expensive.
Should I stick with the CM6 ROM or use the official ROM?

I have touched on this question here, where Christopher gave an answer to this, but I dont really get it so I thought its time to make it a real question, not just a "follow up" =)
As it stands, the application Im writing has 4 different screens:
1. Screen 1 - list of nodes (main screen)
2. Screen 2 - options menu, tableLayout with buttons
3. Screen 3 - navigation
4. Screen 4 - text details on version etc
These screens can be navigated to/from using a "header" View that is placed on top. the header then has 4 different buttons:
+--------------------+
menu with buttons
+--------------------+

C O N T E N T

+--------------------+
The header is just an XML-file (header.xml) with a few buttons. That header.xml is the included in the Layouts using the include-markup. For example, the main.xml has the line:
<include layout="@layout/header"></include>
The header show up alright, but the question is - what is the correct approach to attach OnClickListeners for the buttons in the header?
Christopher pointed out that you could create an Activity class and do the hooks there, like this:
CODE:............
First, I cant make it work since the method setupHeaderButtons isnt accessible from FirstActivity.
Secondly, is this the right way to go at it?
So right now I'm running the 2.3.13 leaked version (haven't upgraded to the now public 2.3.15 yet) and have Tranquility with REVOlution R2 theme installed. I guess my question is this:What's the benefit of going with the OTA upgrade vs. the leaked 2.3.15 (which I can easily upgrade to from the .13 build)? Is it worth all the hassle at this point to even consider the OTA or should I just wait it out?The other thing is I can't really tell what the difference between .13 and .15 are and if there's even any difference between the OTA and the leaked .15 build. I'm pretty content with my phone the way it is now, esp. with Tranq ROM and REVO R2 theme. I just wanted to get some opinions before I go spend another night toying with my phone. Is there even anyone here that paid for the leaked 2.3.15 and now has the OTA that may actually know if there's a (noticeable) difference between the leaked and the OTA.

Essentially I want to carry an external HDD drive with me, bluetooth enabled, so I can stream avi and mp3 to my Desire whilst traveling.I have a 16gb SD card in the phone but really want much more memory to be accessible.Best option is if/when the OS and h/w manufacturers allow non-powered usb sticks to connect with the phone. But until then I'll use bluetooth if such a memory stick exists!

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway I can make my Right Thumbstick on my controller act like it's pressing letters, rather then a proper analog stick? (i.e. if I move the Right Thumbstick around in a circle, then I want to see letters come up, as if I were typing them.)
I've been trying to use USB/BT Joystick Center for this, but I'm having a little trouble. When I bring up the edit mode, while in the DS emulator the app still treats the right thumbstick as a proper analog stick, even though I re-mapped the right stick in the main app to letters (R stick UP-M, R stick RIGHT- N, R stick - DOWN O, R stick - LEFT P)
Are there any apps that will allow me to map keystrokes to a analog stick, and be able to emulate virtual on screen controls for games, and emulators?
i've been trying forever to make the default apps to stick, but each time the phone reboots - it will always ask me again which app should be the default one.
i've tried using 'default app manager pro' but it has done nothing.
this problem has become worse in recent days - now even without rebooting, the default app doesn't get saved even when i click 'Always'.
I'm using Note 3 on 4.4.2 Stock rom.
One of my friends has been having a problem with getting wallpaper changes to 'stick' since she updated to Froyo at the weekend. The problem is that she can change the wallpaper on her phone but if her phone has been completely powered off, when she turns it back on the wallpaper goes back to the default - it doesn't happen though if she turns the screen back on from standby.
She has tried removing the battery and saving the setup as a new scene but that doesn't help and it also isn't a problem if she just changes to a different stock wallpaper, it's only when she changes to a wallpaper she has downloaded.
It looks like some people had this issue. For some reason "New Voicemail" notification is stuck in the notifications bar for me. I tried everything i could find online to get rid of it and its still there. I called myself left a message and then deleted it. I called from a different phone, did the same. I rebooted. Nothing seems to help. I am using google voice for VM now.

I noticed it after the update HTC sent out (don't know if they are connected, just trying to give all the facts). I have stopped and started the Incredible, activated and re-activated the widget numerous times.
After going into settings and turning on auto updates I can back out and go back in and it is not checked. I can't get it to activate and stick.
Is it possible to install everything you need for app development (Java, Android SDK, eclipse, etc) on a USB stick or some other portable media? So that I could develop anywhere I go?

The great Koush has updated the great ROM Manager App and says that it should greatly reduce "broken" recoveries because recovery will not need to be reflashed every ROM switch or wipe.
