Android :: SetCPU Overclocking Raise Voltage For CPU ?
Jul 22, 2010Been wondering this for a few days. Does setCPU raise CPU voltage when it overclocks ?
Because if it doesn't, then battery life shouldn't be affected.

I'm new to rooting, but I just switched to the EVO from the iPhone which I had jailbroken so I'm familiar with the concept. A quick question regarding SetCPU. I know there is not a kernel out there yet for overclocking, but how can I tell if it's working for underclocking when my evo is sleeping? Is there a way to confirm or do I just estimate if I see improved battery performance?

Thanks!
Just rooted, was much easier than I thought. Having issues with SetCPU. I've paid and installed the app but it's read only. There's a button to run disable perflock, which was recommended for HTC users, though the things runsa dn comes back that I don't need to disable perflock.

My advice to you, in selecting a kernel, is to #1 try the lowV varieties first. Then select the slowest kernel that exceeds what you expect to run on a day to day basis. So if you plan on running 800-1000, run the 1.0lv kernel.
If for some reason you get stuck on the 'M' while booting, first try switching to the mediumV kernel. If that does not work, back the speed down, say from 1.25 to 1.2, or 1.2, to 1.1, etc.
5-slot Low Voltage
1.0Ghz (125/250/550/800/1000)
1.1Ghz (125/250/550/800/1100)
1.2Ghz (125/250/550/800/1200)
1.25Ghz (125/250/550/800/1250)
5-slot Medium Voltage

I read this blog about how to use DDMS to track memory allocations. http://android developers.blogspot.com/2009/02/track-memory-allocatio. Using those instructions, I was able to get allocation stack traces. Unfortunately the stack traces only go 8 deep (at least when running against the simulator), and that's too little for me to know where in my code the allocations really originate. How can I raise the limit from 8 to something higher?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have several USB-MicroUSB cables (some OEM Motorola, some other brands), several 12 volt-USB converters, several cars, and several devices that accept MicroUSB connection for power. With everything other than my Droid (including a Blackberry and a GPS unit) every combination of cable and 12volt converter works. With the Droid, all of the combinations will turn on the screen (indicating the Droid knows a cable has been connected), but only a few combinations will actually charge the Droid. The only possible explanation I have come up with for this is that the Droid has some sort of minimum current requirement, and that some converter/car/cable combinations are unable to meet this requirement. So, what is the minimum voltage and current that will allow the Droid to charge?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI forgot to bring my Droid Incredible charger with me to work. Since the battery was getting low I decided to use my BlackBerry Storm charger on it. The ports are the same, and it goes in without any problems. However, after doing this, it became difficult to unlock. Swiping down usually didn't work. If I was able to swipe down I couldn't get past the "password puzzle." I thought the phone was locked up so I pulled the battery, but it still wouldn't swipe after coming back up. I took the charger out and realized I could swipe again. I repeated this, again plugging the charger in and again I was unable to swipe to unlock. Is there a voltage difference between the BB charger and the Incredible charger? It seems like it was charging it fine. JuicePlotter shows a charge while it was plugged in.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Cyanogen from DroidMod and while I was at it, I installed the p3 1ghz low voltage kernel. So far, I'm pretty happy. I'm not sure it's been a huuuge battery saver, but I think it's helped. Wifi and bluetooth have been on all day. A few phone calls. Lots of texting and emails. Also some market apps downloaded as well as files transferred on/off. At 8:30 my battery life is at 50%, which is pretty damn good considering how much better that is from strait out of the box on release day.
I'm running 800mhz overclocked, instead of 1ghz to save some power. Should I switch to a different kernel since I'm not even using the 1 ghz slot?

Possibly a simple answer to this question -- can the USB charger that ships with the Droid X be used with 220 volts in addition to 110 volts? I am planning to take my Droid X to India and need to figure out if I should plug the charger into a 110/220V travel converter, or if the USB charger is already dual voltage and I'll only need a plug point adapter. The voltage specified on the charger has 240V as the upper range, which leads me to think it should work with 220V.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI live in the UK and have ordered my Nexus One from the US, without a UK adapter. My question is what voltage the standard AC adapter uses, as the UK runs 240V typically. I can get hold of a cheap US-UK power adapter that doesn't do any voltage changes, so I was wondering whether that would be sufficient. Does anyone have any experience with this?
