I'm new to rooting, but I just switched to the EVO from the iPhone which I had jailbroken so I'm familiar with the concept. A quick question regarding SetCPU. I know there is not a kernel out there yet for overclocking, but how can I tell if it's working for underclocking when my evo is sleeping? Is there a way to confirm or do I just estimate if I see improved battery performance?

I finally rooted my phone, and put froyo on with flash. works great. Now i want to overclock as well. What do you use for overclocking the cpu speed?? I've seen setcpu referenced...are there any alternatives???

Just rooted, was much easier than I thought. Having issues with SetCPU. I've paid and installed the app but it's read only. There's a button to run disable perflock, which was recommended for HTC users, though the things runsa dn comes back that I don't need to disable perflock.

After finally getting ADC0.3BetaDark up and running, I can no longer access SetCPU.I uninstalled it, then reinstalled, let it search my phone automatically, and it freezes at the SU request.Also, when puttin SU into Terminal Emulator, I get stuck.

Have not yet installed any ROMs or Kernels. I got SetCPU and made several profiles in an attempt to increase my battery life. I wanted to see if it was working so I set up a widget, and despite the fact that my battery was at 20% (I have a <25% battery profile setting) the max was still 998
View 22 Replies View RelatedThe SetCpu suddenly stop working with my Droid X 2.2 OTA. So I decided to troubleshooting by clearing the data, clearing the cache, uninstalling, reinstalling, un-rooting the device and re-rooting the device. I'm able to get other "Rooted Apps" to recognize permission ,but SetCpu wont even ask for permission during the installation process after picking "Auto Recommend". After "Auto Recommend" it just goes into the app and all I can see is a blank black screen. I'm able to launch the widget app once in a while but it seems like the program is working in the background. I have emailed the dev about this rare problem and sent him some logcat one being the installation process and the other one is adding the widget to the home-screen and then launching the app through the widget. I'll be including those attachment if someone with android code skills willing to help me solve this problem. Edit: I did a titanium backup of SetCpu when it was working fine 10/6/10. I did both the app +data restoration and on restart of the device it is able to ask for root permision and it shows the SetCpu bar notification icon. This tells me that the app is working in the background but when I launch it up all I'm able to see is a black screen.

I didn't have anything to do with this, and I didn't find this link, I just posted it from my old thread about the overclock widget (thanks to whoever found this). I figured that people who don't check xda regularly (like myself) might want a heads up, so here you go.
When it comes to overclocking is it strictly a hardware thing with these phones? I see a lot of threads where people are clocked at 768 or up to 806 with no issues. I can't go over 710 without issues. Even at 729 I start to get random force closes and at 748 it completely craps out. I'm fine with 710 if that is how far I can go, but I was wondering if this is a normal thing? I know some hardware is better than others, I am a hardware technician, but that much better?

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter setting the overclock widget to reduce the CPU when my screen is off I find the mp3 player distorts the music when I listen. I have had to increase the screen off min speed to 480000 to stop this happening. This of course means I'm not getting the battery saving bonus that setting to 112, 160 or 245 would give me. Does anyone know a better way to set the overclock widget to give me the battery saving effects without distorting music? Or perhaps an mp3 player that uses less CPU? I'm running SenseHero 2.1 b4 and using the stock HTC music player.

Seems pretty straight forward but I have no clue what ROM to get and I'm not even sure what a kernel is. There are so many ROMs out there I kinda got overwhelmed. Maybe some of you could recommend me one? I want to keep 2.2, and I also NEED 4G to work as Raleigh is one of the cities blessed with 4G coverage. I'm pretty happy with HTC Sense interface, but I'm open to other suggestions. Other than that I just want better battery life, stable performance, unlocking the 30fps cap, CPU speed scaling, and free tethering would be nice. Like I said I don't really know what a kernel is or does. Will I have to flash a new kernel as well as a ROM? And when am I supposed to/how do I flash the radios
In the world of overclocking faster isn't always better. Your CPU may be capable of a high overclock but may actually run faster at a lower overclock.
With the new Snap 8.1 kernel, I am able to run my EVO at 1.22 stable, however, after much benchmarking, I would say it seems to run a bit faster at 1.15. So at this point I would say 1.15 is the sweet spot for this CPU. Opinions?
Soo running the froydvillain 1.4.4 tried different kernels. Would ask this on their IRC channel but I think they would lynch me :P The max stable I get is 748 was running it for like 10 mins :P (768 wont boot) Was running mostly 691 and now 614 . But dont know what will the difference in power consumption be. For example when playing with the phone and it will have to go to the 691 will it hold a lot less? Or its just a minor difference?

I'm running ultimated droid right now with SetCPU and my question to you all is, how do you get it even higher. In the video I followed (the 1 in the sticky), he installs everything and when installing the ROM, has an option to install a 1.25 ghz ROM. Given, he wasn't installing ultimate droid but when I "crank it up," my max is 1 GHz. Is this because of the ROM or am I missing something?
