I have a package with two activities
1. A main activity 2. A search activity
The search activity is invoked by a search suggestion provider in two possible ways
1. By clicking directly on a suggestion invoking the search activity through a VIEW action 2. By clicking on the explicit search icon invoking the activity through SEARCH action
If it is invoked through SEARCH I stay on the search activity and show some text to the user. Now when I click the back button I go back CORRECTLY to the home page.
ODD Behaviour: However if I came to the search activity through the VIEW, I invoke a browser activity and call finish() on the search activity. Now I have the browser in my view. If I now go back I would expect to go back to teh device home page. But from now where the "main activity" is showing up.
I see in the logcat a message from ActivityManager indicating
moveTaskToBack: 8
I have tried various flags to invoke the browser activity the tried flags include new task previous is top and I have also tried both a singleTop and otherwise with the SearchActivity as well. Same end result.

have an activity handling search (ACTIVITY_1), which works perfectly when I use the search (via SEARCH button on the phone) within/from this activity. However, when I use search from another activity (ACTIVITY_2..x) by implementing onNewIntent and forward the query string to my Search_Activity.class (ACTIVITY_1) it always pauses ACTIVITY_2 first and then goes to onCreate() of ACTIVITY_2..................

The 1.5 AVD doesn't seem to follow the documentation in: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/SearchManager.html
which says it's enough to call onSearchRequested() to call the search activity. I need to call startSearch() to make it work. However, when I check the source code of Activity.java, onSearchRequested() does call startSearch().
This works in 1.6.
Is this a bug in 1.5, or did I miss something?

I have a tab host with two tabs. I want one of those tabs to be a search screen. The content for the tab is a ListActivity. I'm pulling the content from a web service. My problem is, when I execute the search a new intent is pushed onto the screen. I've used the android:launchMode="singleTop" property in my manifest for the search activity. What that seems to have done is, once the new intent is pushed on top of the TabActivity, every time I run the search it reuses that intent. But I want the already existing intent which is set as the tab's content to be the one it uses.

I have an ActivityGroup with an embedded TabActivity and another simple Activity.
The TabActivity has three tabs, each one with a ListActivity.
When I try to start a search from a list (calling onSearchRequested()), I get a WindowManager$BadTokenException.
I've tried requesting focus in the list, but the same error occurred.

I would like to create a search in my app which acts like the map search in the Google Maps app. I have creates an an auto complete text view which updates dynamically based on the results of the Geocoder.GetLocationByName() Method. However the results retrieved from this function are really bad and not at all consistent with the text I pass to it. Is there a better method of doing this to achieve accurate results?

When implementing search in my application, I'm including some search context info depending on the activity where search is invoked. In one of those, I'd like to implement type-to-search as well, but the standard method of adding search context info doesn't work in that case... the onSearchRequested() method in the activity is never called. Is there any way to include search context info in a type-to-search invocation, or am I stuck with only the Search key and menu option?

I wanted to put this in the droid X section because the default way of searching contacts is horrible. I installed gesture search last night and now one of my few gripes with the phone is solved. I hated having to having to hold the options button to bring up a keyboard and then having to clear my last entry to start another search.

I want to be able to show the Battery Info activity in my app, which shows things such as the exact level, battery health, etc.I'm not sure how I can get it, though a few applications such as Power Manager, Any Cut, etc. show this screen as well. I found in the source code of Settings this intent in a file called testing_settings.xml,But I don't know how to use it. I would guess from the fact that Any Cut has a list of activities, that a list of said activities exists somewhere, and therefore an easy way to access them exists, but I haven't found it.

My app is comprised of a set of reusable Activities that other apps can reuse. So I have an app with Activity A. The layout on the activity is dynamic genearted. So it's possible that on Activity A a user hits a button that goes to "A" and the new page looks different, then a user clicks another button to go to "A" again. Now I have 2 Activities in the history stack. A, A, and currently on A. Is it possible that if a user clicks a button that the whole Activity stack is cleared in a scenario such as this?

I have a problem to start/create Activity in landscape mode. My Activity need to start in landscape mode and be used in landscape mode by users. So far, I used setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE) to force screen orientation of my Activity to landscape mode in onCreate() method.
In addition to this screen mode requirement, my application need to start another background thread in onResume() method, and this thread takes some seconds in order to finish an initialization process, and it is not desirable to to stop/restart this thread's service during the initialization process.
However setRequestedOrientation (ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE) forces my Activity restart in a very little while (means onCreate->onResume->onPause->onStop are executed twice at the first place). As a result, my background thread be stopped/restarted during the initialization process, and this makes me a mess at this moment.

Im writing a program that offers a quick reply dialog upon receipt of an SMS.
However, I am getting an unexpected result. When I receieve an SMS, the appropriate dialog activity comes up displaying the correct phone number and message, however there is a second activity behind it that is the 'default' activity in my program (it is what opens when i launch my application)
I do not want this second activity to come up. The quick reply activity should come up by itself over top of whatever the user was doing before.
The 'floating' activity:
CODE:.........
The call to the activity inside an onReceive()

The Manifest:

I'm writing an application that starts with a loading activity. In the loading activity the app requests html from web and parses the html, then it sends the parsing result to the main activity. The main activity has several tabs, and contents of these tabs are based on the result of parsing. For example, the result of parsing is a list of strings ["apple", "banana", "orange"], and I need to pass this list to main activity, so that the main activity can create three tabs named after three fruits.I would like to know if there is any way to pass a list of strings among activities, BTW, is it the common way of do this?
