Android :: OnSearchRequested - Doesn't Call Search Activity In 1.5
Oct 8, 2009
The 1.5 AVD doesn't seem to follow the documentation in: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/SearchManager.html
which says it's enough to call onSearchRequested() to call the search activity. I need to call startSearch() to make it work. However, when I check the source code of Activity.java, onSearchRequested() does call startSearch().
This works in 1.6.
Is this a bug in 1.5, or did I miss something?

I have a button in my app. When it is pressed I call the onSearchRequested() method. When this is called the stock search box comes up so the user can type some junk in there. When they press "Go" I need the results returned back to my application but instead the stock browser is opened and a google search is performed. How can I tell it to return the results to my application instead.
I've tried these items in my manifest.xml file:
CODE:.....................

When I'm on a call and a 2nd call comes in, my phone doesn't ring or anything. Is there anyway to change this so that I know when I have a call waiting without having to look at the screen (which is usually pressed up against my ear)?

I'm aware that the home key cannot be caught, and I'm worried that a long-press on the Search key is another "Android-OS protected" key press. Just for testing, I tried to catch all keys with this code within my Activity, but it does not stop the Google Voice Search dialog from being triggered

To pretty up the URL we have on our site a URL /get/g1. It redirects to our market.android.com/search URL, eg http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:ourappname.
However, going to that link in the G1 browser results in a 404 instead of opening the Market to our app.
Questions: 1. Is this a known issue? 2. Does the browser preprocess links on the page but not intercept them in a redirect?

I already downloaded the latest voice search app on my nexus one. I can perform some of the voice actions like calling, navigating, maps and internet search, but I can't seem to add alarm, send text message/email, note to self, call businesses or even set alarm. Instead the results give me either google search or voice dialing. Are some of the functions blocked here? Also I noticed in the official guide video the help screen had more options than mine. Is my voice search a more toned down version because I'm in a different region?

I have so far found two bugs in Galaxo 1.6.3:
a) Speaker doesn't work in call (very weak). works well in ringtones etc.
b) Scrolling contacts by letter doesn't work.
Other than that this is a leap forward, especially with the overclock options!
Both bugs, as well as others, fixed in 1.6.3.1 update!

I have a package with two activities
1. A main activity 2. A search activity
The search activity is invoked by a search suggestion provider in two possible ways
1. By clicking directly on a suggestion invoking the search activity through a VIEW action 2. By clicking on the explicit search icon invoking the activity through SEARCH action
If it is invoked through SEARCH I stay on the search activity and show some text to the user. Now when I click the back button I go back CORRECTLY to the home page.
ODD Behaviour: However if I came to the search activity through the VIEW, I invoke a browser activity and call finish() on the search activity. Now I have the browser in my view. If I now go back I would expect to go back to teh device home page. But from now where the "main activity" is showing up.
I see in the logcat a message from ActivityManager indicating
moveTaskToBack: 8
I have tried various flags to invoke the browser activity the tried flags include new task previous is top and I have also tried both a singleTop and otherwise with the SearchActivity as well. Same end result.

I just installed the latest DialerOne (1.2.7.1) from the Market and find that the new simultaneous search of the call log and contacts is annoying in that it places call log entries at the top of the list, and tapping on them brings up the call history for that contact instead of listing their numbers so you can choose one to dial. I don't see any way to turn this off.Am I missing something? It would seem natural to have the ability to limit the search to the screen presented (search only the call log when the call log is displayed, or search only the contacts when contacts are displayed), but I have Dialer One display the call log by default, so that I can quickly call a recently called contact, or just start dialing to search, so this wouldn't work for me either.I would much rather go back to the way it used to be. Of course, I figured I didn't need to backup the previous version because after all, what could change? Now I have this, and the coloring of the digits on the keypad is weird, even after adjusting it as much as possible.

have an activity handling search (ACTIVITY_1), which works perfectly when I use the search (via SEARCH button on the phone) within/from this activity. However, when I use search from another activity (ACTIVITY_2..x) by implementing onNewIntent and forward the query string to my Search_Activity.class (ACTIVITY_1) it always pauses ACTIVITY_2 first and then goes to onCreate() of ACTIVITY_2..................

I have a tab host with two tabs. I want one of those tabs to be a search screen. The content for the tab is a ListActivity. I'm pulling the content from a web service. My problem is, when I execute the search a new intent is pushed onto the screen. I've used the android:launchMode="singleTop" property in my manifest for the search activity. What that seems to have done is, once the new intent is pushed on top of the TabActivity, every time I run the search it reuses that intent. But I want the already existing intent which is set as the tab's content to be the one it uses.

I have an ActivityGroup with an embedded TabActivity and another simple Activity.
The TabActivity has three tabs, each one with a ListActivity.
When I try to start a search from a list (calling onSearchRequested()), I get a WindowManager$BadTokenException.
I've tried requesting focus in the list, but the same error occurred.

(Note I'm referring to the google Voice Search utility, not the Voice Dialer utlity)
So far: I've confirmed that 3 special voice commands work on my Droid X:
CODE:............
However, there are supposed to be more (from my research), but none of the following is working:
"Call <contact> mobile/work/home/etc" to call that contact
"Dial <number> " to dial the number
Has anyone discovered any other working voice commands?

While in the Phone/Contacts app, I LOVE the search button to open the contacts search box. However, when I press the button, it doesn't automatically open the soft keyboard and I have to first press in the input box. Is there any way to make it automatically open the soft keyboard? It's not a major issue, but it's a slight nuisance. I'm running a rooted Droid with Froyo (FRG01B, manually updated).

On my UK Milestone (rooted), long press on the search button only works when the hardware keyboard is shut, when the keyboard is open, long press works the same as a short press.
While looking for a fix for this, I found very little information on the net, so I'm wondering if it's a problem with only selected devices. Can anyone confirm for me if theirs works or not?
I have OpenSearch assigned to long press search, and since I always use the hardware keyboard, I need to close it, long press search, then open the keyboard. It's annoying.
I've looked at editing the qwerty.kl file in /system/user/keylayout, my idea was to try to redefine to search key on the keyboard (between left alt and @) to launch OpenSearch, but it apears that I can only redefine keys to other keys that way, not launch apps.

I'm developing an application that uses a library project to store much of the functionality and content. When I edit the code and/or content in the library and then run the app, it doesn't properly restart the activity with the changes, giving the warning:
Warning: Activity not started, its current task has been brought to the front
I understand that this warning comes from the SK not thinking that there were any changes to the app, but there were (to the library, not to the app itself).
The only way that I've found to force the app to recompile with the library changes is to do Project->Clean. While this is effective, it's a bit annoying to have to do this every time a make a change. Does anyone know of a way to force the SDK to recognize that a library change should result in reloading the application?
