Android :: Screen Ever Time Out With Droid Emulator / Accomplish This?
Oct 16, 2010
I'm new to the Emulator and trying to test some code. In the system settings of the phone device, I set the screen timeout to 15 seconds. However, I never see the screen go dim and lock. How do I accomplish this?

MotoDroid 2.2. Since 2.2, the auto-rotate screen goes haywire from time to time. I normally use the vertical format, easier to type, but when it switches, not much screen left, and I have to go back and back to start over again.

Well my g/f had an iphone with shazam on it an once she tagged a song she could let shazam post a message on her facebook wall saying that such and such has just tagged (song name) on her iphone.
After seeing this I wanted to do the same thing however, wanted to stay away from the iphone. I have not found a way that shazam can do with their droid version.
Am I missing something or is their another music identifying app that can accomplish what I am looking for?

I found something that has helped my X photos to have more clarity. But before I write this, this is *not* spam to promote a product. It's just something I wanted to share because I've been a little disappointed with my X photos (as can be seen in some of my prior posts), and there may be others who feel the same way.
After reading the "Droid X vs. Droid Incredible 8MP Camera Showdown" thread comparing photos between the 2 phones, and seeing the sharpness of the Incredible camera over the X (even though the colors of the X appear to be more accurate), I wondered if there was a way to improve the photos taken with my X.
I did a search on the internet and found this free, almost professional-grade photo editing software: GIMP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. So I downloaded it to see how well it worked.
I found that using the "sharpen" feature actually produced a certain harshness to the photos, and the size of the photos were reduced when saving them. After enlarging both the originals and the "sharpened" photos to 100% to compare them, I could see why. The Sharpen filter seems to reduce the overall quality and pixels of the photos, thus producing a harshness.
However, I read on the Wiki site about using the "Unsharp Mask" to accomplish the same thing without the degradation that the Sharpen filter produces. And sure enough, not only were my photos sharper with the "Unsharp Mask," but they did not have that harshness produced by the Sharpen filter. And after enlarging the before-and-after photos to 100%, I could see that the quality of the full-size view had not been reduced in the process as it had with the Sharpen filter. And when saving the edited photos they are approximately the same size as the originals (indicating that some of the photo information hadn't just been "removed" while filtering the picture).
That said, there are settings to the Unsharp Mask that need to be considered. I have changed the "amount" setting from .25 to 1.0 depending on the photo in order to make sure I'm sharpening the photo as much as possible without overdoing it and producing a similar harshness that results from too much alteration. You must be careful to look at the entire photo, and even to enlarge the before-and-after to 100% if needed, to get the proper balance on a per-photo basis.
The photos still aren't quite as sharp as the Incredible's after editing (the optics must simply be better on that camera in that regard). But this near-professional quality software can really make photos stand out with more clarity and it retains the accuracy of the color content of the Droid X camera. It also offers a large selection of interesting filters to do other things with your pictures.
Note: If anyone decides to try this out, be aware that this software attempts to install other programs, but it allows you to decline them. You must decline about 2-3 other programs during the process of installation. I also had to uninstall the Yahoo toolbar afterwards. I guess that's how they can offer it for free.
I apologize if this post is inappropriate -- please feel free to remove it if it causes any offense. I am just really glad that I can tweak my X photos so that they have greater clarity than the X software (including Vignette) produces.

Is there any way to change when these 3 things happen separately? Can I make it so my screen fades earlier but still takes just as long to go completely black? Is there a way to extend the time between total blackout and locking? Is there a way to turn off auto screen lock all together but keep the auto fade out and auto black out? I am always able to remember to manually lock the screen and the auto lock is annoying but I still like the power saving of the screen fade and black out.

at the moment I am thinking about a new app and need some information to decide whether to develop on Android or an alternative OS. I am particularly interested in "time to first screen", "boot-up time", "time to first Audio" and "app-start" (can be any from the android market or even one of the pre-installed ones) time? Does anyone know a source or perhaps measured those numbers?

I am almost ready to root my Eris. I am wondering if I will be able to accomplish the following:
1. Gain space so I can download more Apps. - I am down to 9 MB of internal memory even after cleaning up various programs, dumping cache, etc.
2. Totally eliminate the HTC phone dialer. Under 1.5 you could set a default dialer, since 2.1 this is not possible.
If so, would I be able to do these things without changing the ROM? What ROMs would you recommend and where can I find them?

few weeks ago I encountered a problem. My Android SDK 1.5 emulator became very slow and CPU consuming. This happened earlier, but was irregular just removing AVDs usually helped. Few weeks ago I installed Android SDK 1.6, tried to move my dev environment there and noticed that emulator runs very slowly. I rolled back to 1.5 and noticed that the same problem is there. What's going on: - emulator startup is pretty slow; - sometimes emulator hangs on startup; - sometimes after startup is complete I see Force close/Wait dialog for some Android applications/services (Alarm clock, messaging) - applications inside the emulator run MUCH slower than they ran before, I see delays in response even in launcher, when I just switching between icons with arrow keys (at this time CPU usage according to the task manager is from 35 to 50%, i.e. one core is completely busy). - now, when I'm typing this message, emulator (clean, newly created AVD, I haven't installed nothing there, just out of the box) occupied 50% of my CPU (and 140MB of RAM). Hardware: Intel Core2Duo T7500 (2.2GHz) + 2GB RAM. OS: Vista I don't have any problems with 1.6 on Linux (Kubuntu 7.10), emulator starts quickly, responds in a flash, and seldom consumes more than 20% of CPU time (usually in case my application is working with DB).

I'm working with Eclipse and writing an Android application. I've noticed that the load times to the Android emulator can vary significantly. Recently, I found that manually going back to the main menu of the emulator helps my application load much faster. Is there a quicker way (read: automatic way) to exit out of my application rather than hitting the Back button multiple times until I get to the main app menu? Secondly, is there something I am doing wrong that factors into the longer load time?

I set my screen time out to 30 seconds and..it's been 30 seconds my screen is not timing out. This can be REALLY annoying when I forget to push the power button and just put the phone in my pocket and the battery drains.
I called verizon about this yesterday they had me turn my phone off and back on and then it did time out. Today I tried the same thing and it's not timing out..
The phone is brand new, only 3 days old has not been dropped or anything.

On my system, i am using eclipse ganymede version along the Android SDK and ADT plugin installed. I have created an android AVD (target android 1.5) with 512MB of memory. Its quite frustrating to see the slow boot up of it. It takes around 4-5 mins to complete its boot-up. Is there any way or tweak to speed up this boot up process.
PC config:
P4 2.4 Ghz with 1 GB ram.

Is there a way to get the lock screen time and date widget (or one that looks like that) on the home screen? I like the clarity and simplicity. The standard home screen widget is so ugly.

I am a new android user, and got my Droid 2 the morning they came out at the Verizon store. Now the guy that was helping me at the store told me that the battery life would be bad because of the high resolution screen but I didn't expect it to be this bad. I have been having really bad battery issues and I don't even use it constantly. I have it on around 20% brightness during the day, and I really only send text messages, and some web browsing but not a huge amount. My battery will be drained after 6 hours or so, and will need a charge again. When checking on battery manager it does say that most of my energy is going to my screen, but like I said I don't even have it close to the full brightness. I have been using an app killer program to try to maintain that also, but I did read somewhere that it can actually hurt your battery more, from closing and opening apps. Just wanted to hear some feedback from other users since we a couple days after launch. Everything else has been great with this phone, and I am REALLY enjoying the android OS after switching from a Blackberry.
