Android : Music Identifying App That Can Accomplish What I Am Looking For?

Jun 23, 2010

Well my g/f had an iphone with shazam on it an once she tagged a song she could let shazam post a message on her facebook wall saying that such and such has just tagged (song name) on her iphone.

After seeing this I wanted to do the same thing however, wanted to stay away from the iphone. I have not found a way that shazam can do with their droid version.

Am I missing something or is their another music identifying app that can accomplish what I am looking for?

HTC Eris :: Will Root Accomplish These Objectives?

Sep 7, 2010

I am almost ready to root my Eris. I am wondering if I will be able to accomplish the following:

1. Gain space so I can download more Apps. - I am down to 9 MB of internal memory even after cleaning up various programs, dumping cache, etc.
2. Totally eliminate the HTC phone dialer. Under 1.5 you could set a default dialer, since 2.1 this is not possible.

If so, would I be able to do these things without changing the ROM? What ROMs would you recommend and where can I find them?

Android :: Identifying Id Of Listitem For Context Menu

May 6, 2010

I have a View that extends Activity. A ListView will display a number of listitems. When the user long clicks I would like to present them with a contextmenu allowing them to select edit, delete etc. and then identify the listitem that was selected as the item to perform the action on.
In onCreate I have:
listView.setAdapter(adapter);
listView.setOnItemClickListener(onListClick);
listView.setOnItemLongClickListener(onListLongClick);
registerForContextMenu(listView);
I have a method onCreateContextMenu
@Override
public void onCreateContextMenu(ContextMenu menu, View v,
ContextMenuInfo menuInfo) {
super.onCreateContextMenu(menu, v, menuInfo);
menu.setHeaderTitle("Context Menu");
menu.add(0, v.getId(), 0, "Edit");
menu.add(0, v.getId(), 0, "Delete");
and also onContextItemSelected
@Override
public boolean onContextItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
if (item.getTitle() == "Edit") {
// edit action
} else if (item.getTitle() == "Delete") {
// delete action
} else {
return false;
return true;
}I am not sure where to go from here to get the correct row/listitem.

Android :: Identifying View Selected In Context Menu

May 28, 2010

In Android, onContextItemSelected has a single MenuItem argument and so it isn't clear how to identify the view selected. MenuItem.getMenuInfo provides access to Contextmenu.ContextMenuInfo, but while both known subclasses provide access to the target view, there does not appear to be an accessor on the interface.One alternative is to save the View provided in onCreateContextMenu in a private class variable which relies on onCreateContextMenu not being called again in the activity before onContextItemSelected. Another is to use the id of the View for the itemId argument of ContextMenu.add. If we do this, we would then need to identify the option selected from the context menu by using its (possibly internationalised) title.what is the best method for identifying the View selected in onContextSelected?

Motorola Droid :: Contact List - Identifying Incoming Phone Calls

Nov 11, 2009

So I have something like 470 people in my Google Contacts under "All Contacts" and only about 60 under "My Contacts." I like it that way, because then my Droid contact list isn't full to the brim with people whose numbers I really don't need at the touch of my fingertips. That being said, however, it would be very cool if somehow the "All Contacts" section of my Google Contacts could be used to identify incoming phone calls.

For instance:
I want my Brother's phone number in My Contacts so I can call him.
I don't want my ex girlfriend's Stacey's number in My Contacts because I don't need to call her.
I still have my ex-girlfiend's contact info under "All Contacts" because there's no reason to delete it outright.
I would, however, like for my Droid's caller ID to tell me that the person calling me is "Stacey" instead of "unknown caller."

Am I asking too much? I know I could just add everyone to "My Contacts" and that would work, I just don't necessarily want 500 people in my Droid phone book. It's unnecessary. Or even apps that do this?

Motorola Droid X : Sharpen Your X Photos / "Unsharp Mask" To Accomplish?

Oct 2, 2010

I found something that has helped my X photos to have more clarity. But before I write this, this is *not* spam to promote a product. It's just something I wanted to share because I've been a little disappointed with my X photos (as can be seen in some of my prior posts), and there may be others who feel the same way.

After reading the "Droid X vs. Droid Incredible 8MP Camera Showdown" thread comparing photos between the 2 phones, and seeing the sharpness of the Incredible camera over the X (even though the colors of the X appear to be more accurate), I wondered if there was a way to improve the photos taken with my X.

I did a search on the internet and found this free, almost professional-grade photo editing software: GIMP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. So I downloaded it to see how well it worked.

I found that using the "sharpen" feature actually produced a certain harshness to the photos, and the size of the photos were reduced when saving them. After enlarging both the originals and the "sharpened" photos to 100% to compare them, I could see why. The Sharpen filter seems to reduce the overall quality and pixels of the photos, thus producing a harshness.

However, I read on the Wiki site about using the "Unsharp Mask" to accomplish the same thing without the degradation that the Sharpen filter produces. And sure enough, not only were my photos sharper with the "Unsharp Mask," but they did not have that harshness produced by the Sharpen filter. And after enlarging the before-and-after photos to 100%, I could see that the quality of the full-size view had not been reduced in the process as it had with the Sharpen filter. And when saving the edited photos they are approximately the same size as the originals (indicating that some of the photo information hadn't just been "removed" while filtering the picture).

That said, there are settings to the Unsharp Mask that need to be considered. I have changed the "amount" setting from .25 to 1.0 depending on the photo in order to make sure I'm sharpening the photo as much as possible without overdoing it and producing a similar harshness that results from too much alteration. You must be careful to look at the entire photo, and even to enlarge the before-and-after to 100% if needed, to get the proper balance on a per-photo basis.

The photos still aren't quite as sharp as the Incredible's after editing (the optics must simply be better on that camera in that regard). But this near-professional quality software can really make photos stand out with more clarity and it retains the accuracy of the color content of the Droid X camera. It also offers a large selection of interesting filters to do other things with your pictures.

Note: If anyone decides to try this out, be aware that this software attempts to install other programs, but it allows you to decline them. You must decline about 2-3 other programs during the process of installation. I also had to uninstall the Yahoo toolbar afterwards. I guess that's how they can offer it for free.

I apologize if this post is inappropriate -- please feel free to remove it if it causes any offense. I am just really glad that I can tweak my X photos so that they have greater clarity than the X software (including Vignette) produces.

Android :: Music Website - Play Music On Android - Blackberry - Iphone - Symbian

Jul 14, 2010

How can I make my simple site, on which the user can choose to play a number of music clips by clicking on little "play" buttons on the page (think of Amazon's "preview" on their product pages for CDs), work on mobile devices?

[I originally created the page thinking only of desktop browsers, so currently it works by using Flash. I know that won't work at least on the iphone.]

Will I have to build a platform-specific app for all major mobile platforms to provide this kind of simple interface? If so, can you recommend a framework that will let me do this in "write once, run everywhere" fashion?

General :: Google Play Music / Why Does It Cache Extra Music When Streaming Just One Song

Oct 9, 2012

when I want to stream one particular song I noticed that the Google Play Music app downloads and caches the previous/next few songs for quicker access. How can I prevent this? It uses a lot of data and I usually only want to listen to the one song I chose to stream.

For example if I play a 6 mb song i noticed it uses about 40 mb to stream just that one song. Then I selected a different song to stream and immediately went into settings > download queue and noticed it was loading more songs than the one I requested. I only want to listen to the 1 song I chose, so how can I prevent the other songs from loading? As far as I can see there is no way in the app's settings but there has to be another way to stop this inconvenience.

P.S. I have a T999 galaxy s3 running on stock rooted ICS

General :: Remove DRM From ITunes Music So It Can Be Uploaded To Google Play Music?

Oct 29, 2012

I currently have an iPhone 4S and I am probably going to get a Galaxy Note 2 when it comes out for Verizon. In order to prepare for this, I set up Google Play Music to upload my music so it can be ready for me when I get my new phone (I like it better than Samsung's default music player). Only one problem: protected AAC files (or DRM) can't be transferred to Play Music. I tried converting my music with 2 different DRM converters, but they were free trials, and it only would convert 1:00 of each song and then stop. Is there any free way to convert each protected song completely, along with protected videos? Also, does music on Play Music eat up an Android device's space? I have over 12 GB of music and movies and I don't want to have barely any any space left on a 16 GB device if a 32 or 64 GB ever comes out, minus the SD card.

General :: Clearing Pinned Music From Device In Play Music?

May 23, 2013

I've been an Android user since the G1.

I have a Nexus 4 with a considerable amount of "pinned" music in the Play Music app taking up storage space. This pinning seems to have taken on a life of its own, and I'm finding that the app is permanently storing music locally that I never wanted downloaded.

So my question is this: what's the best way to completely clear everything that's been "pinned" so far, and start over? I knew how to unpin music in the app before the recent design refresh, but now I'm not seeing it anywhere. Is there a way to just unpin everything through the app? Or can I use a file manager or connect the device to a PC and just delete the music files?

General :: Play Music / Gingerbread And Deleting On-Device Music

Aug 28, 2012

I use Google Play Music. Over time, I've chosen certain albums to store locally ('pin') from music.google.com on my Android 2.4 phone. Now I wish to clear these out from the phone in the name of space and begin anew.

Without an apparent way to do this on the phone (?), I connected the device to a computer and wiped out the Android music directory's files manually.

Then, when I returned to my phone's Play Music app and attempted to choose new music to pin to the device, Android is re-downloading *all* of the music I had previously chosen to store locally, completely defeating the purpose of this pursuit.

Is there a way to start fresh on the phone without deleting music from URL....? I simply want to download a select few albums to a device from my Play Music account, not everything I have ever selected to pin since my history with the service.
