May 18, 2010
Is any SDK version which support Windows 2000? r05 doesn't - I found that android-sdk-windows oolsemulator.exe imports from WS2_32.dll functions freeaddrinfo, getaddrinfo and getnameinfo which missed from this library.

I have a number of apps, and so far I have supported all versions from level 3, android 1.5.
For my latest app, I'm considering supporting only from 1.6, or possibly 2.1, upwards.
What's the trend thesedays? Is it becoming usual, or acceptable, to adopt this strategy?

As we know, bluetooth-related APIs was not included until version 2.0. And the current condition is Droid is the only 2.0-supported choice. I've known there are many kinds of unofficial 2.0 build, but are they stable enought to program? Does anybody has the experiences of programming bluetooth on a non-Droid handset? What is it, and what is the version of your OS? Did you hear of whether G1/magic/hero/tattoo is going to support eclair officially or not?

If I run my android application with htc magic with locale English. I find my application running properly and if I find to run it on Motorola droid with locale Korean, I find even my application(apk) cannot be installed on the device. Do android support different language? Is it because of different language OS version?

Accroding to GregS's "Announcing OpenCORE 2.0 release" mention, video telephony (a.k.a. 2way) engine is supported by OpenCORE 2.0. but he(?) was not sure that is included at Cupcake version.
So, can I get information about any progress for supporting video telephony service? like, whether video telehpony service is supported at Cupcake or any other version.
And where can I get any document about OpenCORE 2.XXX release?

Some of my application's users are on android 1.5, some on 1.6, and some 2.0. So how do I release my app for all customers? If I release a 1.5 version, then the 1.5 phone can use it - but not the newer phones with smaller screens (aka Tatoo), they require 1.6 or higher? correct?

In my Android app I need to extract data from a xml file (the file will have less than 2000 lines). I have no experience with XML parsing, so I don't know what the best approach is. DOM parser is perhaps not a good option, because I am on a mobile device. On the other hand with SAX I would probably end with more complicated code. What would you recommend?

Try to get internet sharing up on my rickety old laptop that I use only for this purpose, its running windows 2000 and I am trying to install HTC_Sync_2.0.33. Keep getting the error message :
The operating system is not adequate for running HTC Sync.
My laptop is older but the specs are above the requirements, and according to the download info from HTC, I should be workable.

If you've upgraded to official froyo you probably know that downgrading can be difficult, especially if you have an SLCD screen. If you did a branded upgrade (e.g. Vodafone) then the old methods won't work at all.Since current rooting methods won't work on froyo this can be a big problem.I've created a tool that will downgrade Froyo to stock 2.1. It requires a goldcard if your phone is branded. The download details as well as instructions can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256

I have had DC 2.08.1 installed for about 2 weeks with no issues. I decided to go ahead and partition the SD to utilized apps2SD as I was having memory issues. That process, while not smooth, went through okay and the SD card is working with the partition and apps2SD. However, ever since that was completed, my Windows 7 box no longer recognizes the phone either as a phone or as a drive. My Linux laptop recognizes the drive without issue.
Any suggestions on how I can reintroduce my phone to the Windows box, at least as a drive?

I used to be a C/C++ programmer before getting in to android. I am not sure how people maintain 2 versions of a program without using #ifdef preprocessor macros. Right now I am changing the package name in eclipse and changing the code manually, but this seems really inefficient. Can anybody suggest a good way of having 2 or more projects that share most of the code?

I'm planning on getting LockBot when I get my EVO and I was wondering, what's the difference between the free version and paid version. I basically want the Moto Droid lock screen on my EVO for the slide to toggle sound on/off feature due to the lack of an external switch on the EVO. Would I be best to get the paid version or will the free version do that?

I am having my Galaxy S delivered tomorrow and was wondering what protection people are using. I was going to use some sort of film protector, such as Zagg invisible shield and a Flip Case. But the only flip case I can find for the Galaxy S looks horrid, and I am not sure on the texture of Zagg Invisible Shields.I have also considered silicone gel cases, but I am having trouble finding one that is nice, and pouches in combo with a screen protector. What would you use and if I did buy a screen protector, which brand should it be, I want one that will protect but with minimum difference to the feel or colour of the screen.

I'm trying to build a app that uses the SmsMessage class but there are two versions depending on the API level of the device:
android.telephony.gsm.SmsMessage (deprecated for 1.6 and above)
android.telephony.SmsMessage (the new class for 1.6 and up)
I want to target 1.5 and yet have the newer class (android.telephony.SmsMessage) run on devices with 1.6 or higher. How do I do this?
I have already tired this: http://devtcg.blogspot.com/2009/12/gracefully-supporting-multiple-android.html but I couldn't get it to work (the author doesn't mention how he/she handles the different imports, the exact api level settings etc.)

Let's say for example that I have some Android app that does X. The free version has ads or basic features. I want to have a paid version that removes the ads and adds extra features. How can I use the paid app as a "license key" to unlock the features in the free app? So the user would install the free app, then install the paid app to get the extra features, but they would still run the free app (which would now be unlocked). What's the best approach to doing this?
