Android :: 1.5 Version Support

Nov 9, 2010

I have a number of apps, and so far I have supported all versions from level 3, android 1.5.

For my latest app, I'm considering supporting only from 1.6, or possibly 2.1, upwards.

What's the trend thesedays? Is it becoming usual, or acceptable, to adopt this strategy?

Android :: Phone Support Bluetooth API Version 2.0?

Nov 24, 2009

As we know, bluetooth-related APIs was not included until version 2.0. And the current condition is Droid is the only 2.0-supported choice. I've known there are many kinds of unofficial 2.0 build, but are they stable enought to program? Does anybody has the experiences of programming bluetooth on a non-Droid handset? What is it, and what is the version of your OS? Did you hear of whether G1/magic/hero/tattoo is going to support eclair officially or not?

Android :: Maintaining A Free And Paid Version & Maybe Other Version

Apr 5, 2010

I used to be a C/C++ programmer before getting in to android. I am not sure how people maintain 2 versions of a program without using #ifdef preprocessor macros. Right now I am changing the package name in eclipse and changing the code manually, but this seems really inefficient. Can anybody suggest a good way of having 2 or more projects that share most of the code?

Samsung Galaxy S :: Protection EU Version - Vibrant US Version

But the only flip case I can find for the Galaxy S looks horrid, and I am not sure on the texture of Zagg Invisible Shields.I have also considered silicone gel cases, but I am having trouble finding one that is nice, and pouches in combo with a screen protector. What would you use and if I did buy a screen protector, which brand should it be, I want one that will protect but with minimum difference to the feel or colour of the screen.

Android :: Android -- Support 1.6 - Support For Deprecated Code In 1.5

Jul 3, 2010

I'm trying to build a app that uses the SmsMessage class but there are two versions depending on the API level of the device:

android.telephony.gsm.SmsMessage (deprecated for 1.6 and above)

android.telephony.SmsMessage (the new class for 1.6 and up)

I want to target 1.5 and yet have the newer class (android.telephony.SmsMessage) run on devices with 1.6 or higher. How do I do this?

I have already tired this: but I couldn't get it to work (the author doesn't mention how he/she handles the different imports, the exact api level settings etc.)

Android :: How To Use Paid Version Of App As A "key" To Free Version?

Let's say for example that I have some Android app that does X. The free version has ads or basic features. I want to have a paid version that removes the ads and adds extra features. How can I use the paid app as a "license key" to unlock the features in the free app? So the user would install the free app, then install the paid app to get the extra features, but they would still run the free app (which would now be unlocked). What's the best approach to doing this?
