I am developing an Android application and I need to retrieve the Google account used on the phone. I want to do this for the C2DM, but I don't want to ask the user to enter in his/her Google email account if they are already logged in. Is there any way to do it?

Will this work? Will they all ring when the 1 number is called? Particularly as applies to Android 2.2.
The idea is to use a couple old Android phones as a home phone system.
I use a droid x for work and have a droid incredible for my personal use and would like to know if i can use the same google account for both phones and not have any issues with syncing for calendar and contacts and any apps that i have purchased

View 35 Replies View RelatedI am developing a simple maps application that displays map in street mode. I want to display street name and a snapshot when a particular street is selected. Is it possible to get the street snapshot as is displayed by the native maps application using android APIs.
Also on native maps app when we select the street a 3D view of the street is shown. How can I add this 3D street view to my app.
I have the following issue; a couple of months ago i had a Desire z (happy HTC One owner now) but it fell and it broke. Or atleast the phone itself/ screen does nothing. However i can hook the phone up to my pc and its get recognized and i can browse the phone with the command prompt.
My phone broke while i was on a trip in Thailand and unfortunately the info (email adresses from new friends) that i typed into google keep that night had not been synced yet...
I would very much like to get this info off of my phone and read it or transfer it to my new phone or something (reading it on the pc has my preference as my HTC One is not rooted).
I have my EVO as my personal phone.Now my employer is talking about getting us all a work phone.They haven't settled on which phone or even platform yet.They were just asking us which we'd prefer.The general consensus was Android and Blackberry as the two finalist.That just got me to wondering if I were to have a second android phone could I just use the same Gmail account.Would the email/calendar/contacts all sync to both phones?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy galaxy S2 was working fine. I used google play a couple of days ago without any problem and today when I tried to update my app systemPanel from google play (or any other app), I got the error:
Update for 'systemPanel app/Task Manager' could not be downloaded due to an error. (error retrieving info from server [RPC:S-5:AEC-0])
what exactly does it mean? I googled it and tried the clear data/cache of google play/google frame and it did not work.
I have also deleted then added back my gmail account and it did not work.
I couldn't install any app either. I got the same error when I tried to install any app from Google play store.
Apparently I'm unable to activate the one I received because it's "pending activation on another account". And I have to have Google release it from that account to activate it.

Go to the GMail app, select add account, fill in the metrics and then...... "Needs to communicate" message for ~ 3 minutes, then bombs out with - "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server". 3G is fine, on a wifi connection that is fine, web browser works fine..... Google Apps account works fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two gmail accounts, each with their own Google Voice account. Account 1 is my primary account, and I have even ported my phone number to this account. I'm using this account on my phone (nexus 5), and have 0 issues with this account. All texts, voicemails, etc come through with no issues. Account 2 is largely not used. I would like to use account 2 on my nexus 7, for texts, and maybe making calls if I don't want to give out my real number to someone.
My issue is when I'm logged in to account 2 on my nexus 7, I'm getting text notifications for account 1 on my nexus 7. But if I were to open Google Voice on the nexus 7, once GV refreshes, the texts disappear. It doesn't happen the other way around. If I get a text/vm to account 2, it does not notify my phone, which is logged in to account 1.
I've checked the settings in both GV accounts, and neither account is linked to the other, or to send copies of texts/vm notifications to the other. How do I stop notifications from GV account 1 to stop displaying on account 2? I have cleared cache, data, uninstalled the app. The only thing i have not done, is a reset of the nexus 7.
I was initially logged in to account 1 on my nexus 7, but I would have thought removing the app from the device would have essentially erased all traces of the account 1 on the nexus 7. I even signed out of hangouts, to make sure Google was not treating this like my phone, and sending it both places.
Is it possible to use a google account for features such as google contacts and latitude? I know this is not possible for Android market, but would it be possible for other google products? I saw it is possible on this Android 2.0 review: Android 2.0 Review: Almost Human Did they remove this feature from the 2.1 that Hero uses, or can't I just find it?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI use Google hosted apps with my own domain for e-mail, calendar, chat, etc. and I use the e-mail address from that with my main Google account as well. So, both my Google account and hosted apps account use the same address. I had no problem setting up my account on my phone when I got it Friday, but I've been running into a few issues. First off, every time I try to buy an app in the Market, it asks me to set up a Google account to associate it with, even though I already have. Also, when I try to use Google Listen, it asks the same thing. Is there a way around this, or will I have to create a separate Google/GMail account?

Just got my Droid, but I tried the HTC Hero for a couple weeks and really enjoyed the Sense UI. Since Android is an open platform, I was just curious, is it possible for a third party developer to create a custom UI that significantly alters the entire interface and functionality of Android 2.0 on the Droid, for example?

Lately I've started to face this problem where Facebook (from Social Networks), keeps getting logged out every other second or so. Most of the times it just won't log-in with a 'Service not available, try again' sort of message. Also if I try to log in from the Contact, it behaves the same way.On the other hand, the Facebook widget and app are connected and working fine. This is really upsetting since I have many contacts on Facebook and having their pictures showing in the Contacts was a pretty handy feature for me.I've already reset it once, but to no avail. My Twitter and Flickr accounts remained signed in, whereas Facebook just doesn't. I've also tried signing in on an alternative Facebook account to isolate the issue, but the result was the same.Would love to hear from folks facing the same thing and what they did to resolve it. I've also put in a message with HTC.

1) Download app called ota rootkeeper from the android marketplace.
2) Open app and protect root.
3) Click "temp unroot".
4) When done watching movie go to ota rootkeeper and restore root.
Every time you want to use Google play you must do this.
Has anyone else experienced an issue I've complained numerous times about yet can't get resolution: When users upgrade our My Coupons app, apparently there is a service left unclosed. Fine. The issue being, the old service code interferes with the new code and users uninstall then reinstall immediately in attempt to resolve. Google registers the uninstalls, but not the reinstalls.
I repeat, the market registers the uninstalls, but prompt reinstallations DO NOT get registered!
I can verify this occurs as each time the app is first run it notifies our servers, and we've got record of each install. This record vastly differs from the statistics google is reporting. These records are verifiably unique users.
I have logged on to HTC Sense on line & now cant do it thru the phone, does the phone & pc need to be connected for this? Also when I go to HTC Sense on the phone it just says it syncing. But so far the two have not synced. What am I doing wrong?

However I want to enable the user to login to his google account without opening the browser. I have made some attempts to just simulate the http-posts done, but to no avail. Are there any nice way of doing this google account login in android code? For example, to make my own loginscreen, and then send user/pass to the google apps server and get an aknowledgement if the login information was correct.

I already linked a Google Account to the phone when I first set the phone up, so I just tried typing that into the 'sign in' option, and it looks like it's doing something for a good 3 minutes, saying "Your phone needs to communicate with Google servers to set up your account. This may take up to five minutes." Now, I would be fine with it taking 5 minutes, except it brings up a page saying "Cannot establish a reliable data connection to the server: This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisions for data services (it is, because you're required to have a data plan to activate a smartphone on Verizon)." I have a 3G signal and I'm connected to a wi-fi network as well, although I've tried it not connected to wi-fi, and still no dice.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have written a SyncAdapter that takes a "com.google" account and performs a sync with an appengine web service. Testing this with the dev tools sync tester (on the emulator), this sync appears to work just fine.
The problem is, it's not syncing by default. And going to the account in "accounts & sync" shows my google account to be blank - as if there's no sync services available.
I suspect that in order to get my sync shown in the "accounts & sync" menu, I'd need to implement my own AccountAuthenticator that would do exactly the same thing as what I presume google's AccountAuthenticator must already do. This is not an exciting job, and it seems very unnecessary. So:
Is there a way to add an entry to the "accounts & sync" menu that uses my SyncAdapter but relies on a google account? or to add a sub-menu to google accounts that enables sync of my appengine service? if not,is there a way I can re-use google's AccountAuthenticator from within an AccountAuthenticator I write?
