Android :: GMail App Intents Included With Official Google Phones?
Oct 9, 2009
Is there a list of Intents supported by the GMail app included with official Google phones? I can look at the source of the other apps to see what's available, but the GMail app is closed source so I'm not able to go that route. I have the basic MAIN intent running fine, but would love to be able to jump right into a specific conversation and things like that.

I realize this might not be the proper place to post this since it's not Android specific, but rather its about integrating with a google app.
I've been trying to find some documentation on launching / controlling the Google Navigation app via Intents or otherwise. I was hoping to find an intent to launch the navigation app with address parameters setup and start navigation immediately.
Can't find anything out there, so I'm still not even sure if it can be done.

Ever since putting a Froyo ROM on my Incredible, I've not been able to get my secondary gmail account to function properly. No automatic syncing from the phone to the cloud. I sometimes will get message pushed out to the phone but not all the time.
I've seen reports that a official OTA for the Evo came out last night that has fixed this gmail problem for them. So I'm wondering if it is possible for someone to get the gmail application off of the OTA release and then allow it to be installed on an Incredible running some version of Froyo.

I have my EVO as my personal phone. Now my employer is talking about getting us all a work phone. They haven't settled on which phone or even platform yet. They were just asking us which we'd prefer. The general consensus was Android and Blackberry as the two finalist. That just got me to wondering if I were to have a second android phone could I just use the same Gmail account.Would the email/calendar/contacts all sync to both phones?

Even a "beta" SDK would be helpful. There are lots of app developers who don't necessarily know how to build cupcake from the GIT. Given that HTC Magic (based on cupcake, I heard) is rolling out real soon now, wouldn't it be nice to give the app developers a chance to test if their app is compatible with cupcake?Sure, Android API is supposed to be backwards compatible. However, there are quite a few bugs in the G1 that I had to work around with ugly hacks. Now I start to worry if those hacks would break on cupcake.

I have noticed that Gmail is taking a little bit longer to sync, if it syncs at all. I have had to use the manual refresh in my Gmail app to populate mail most of the day today.I have run some tests, and it appears that Gmail will sync in random amounts of time. Sometimes 5-10 minutes, sometimes more than 15 minutes. Up until yesterday, it was almost instantaneous. When I send mail, or change labels, or delete mail on my Droid, the changes are noticed on my Gmail account within a minute or just like normal. It appears to only be a problem with fetching new mails.I have cleared the Gmail app cache, I have turned off sync - rebooted my phone - turned sync on again everything I can think of.

I am getting the Archos 7 Home Tablet for my birthday (ARCHOS) and it doesn't have the official Google Marketplace installed. I have read several places that it is possible to download the .apk file, but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have info about that?

Just got my Droid, but I tried the HTC Hero for a couple weeks and really enjoyed the Sense UI. Since Android is an open platform, I was just curious, is it possible for a third party developer to create a custom UI that significantly alters the entire interface and functionality of Android 2.0 on the Droid, for example?

Does anybody happen to have the official Google Gallery .apk running on the X? I really miss having my Picasa photos available on the phone like I did with the original Droid. I could have sworn that I had the file somewhere, but I can't find it.

I am developing an Android application and I need to retrieve the Google account used on the phone. I want to do this for the C2DM, but I don't want to ask the user to enter in his/her Google email account if they are already logged in. Is there any way to do it?

I'm trying to use the Google Data API for an installed application on Android 2.1. I don't want the user to have to enter their credentials if he already has an account configured on the device. Thus, I'm using the AccountManager with Account type "com.google".
But where to go from there? There are no samples from Google on how to do Google authentication (authTokenType etc.). There's a project trying to do it (http://code.google.com/p/google-authenticator-for-android) in a general way but without any success, yet.
This is really keeping back applications like Google Reader clients which have to ask the user for their Google credentials (which hopefully nobody gives them).

So most of us are happy with our Droids, but we all have at least one item that we just wish Google would fix. Lucky for us, Google has a site dedicated to tracking bugs, issues, and feature requests!
So in addition posting questions here, go to Google's issues site and let them know directly! All you need to do is click the link and click the little white star icon. Issues with more stars will theoretically get more attention, so let's let Google know what we want.
I'll keep a running list of direct links in this post for everyone's convenience. If you want me to add more just post it in this thread along with a link to the issue.
Bluetooth Voice Dial Support
Exchange support for Global Address List
Exchange support for ActiveSync provisioning protocol
Exchange support for signatures
Exchange Calendar Appointment Invites have no accept or decline buttons
When headset is unplugged, sound does not return to speaker.
Issue 5853: Softbuttons lights on the Droid stay on while charging
Feature request: add support for GSM 6.10 8Khz/mono in a RIFF WAVE audio container
Issue 1151 Install apps to SD card
Issue 1181 [VoiceDial] Voice confirmation for Voice Dialer
Issue 3795 Couldn't unlock phone after "too many pattern attempts"
If any of these issues bother you, please take a moment to click the link and click on the white star to let Google know that it's important! Leave a comment for the devs while you're at it.
There are currently over 400 issues posted and you can add your own. This list is just for quick and easy reference for common issues among the readers of this forum.
Also, note - this is for issues with Android as a whole and not necessarily Motorola or Verizon.

It would be great is someone could create an App to allow the selection of multiple contacts , or Groups from your Google Contacts Groups to the To, cc, or Bcc in Gmail like the Android Mail App does. I think this is the stock Android Mail App, but possibly and HTC Sense App since I have an EVO. In Gmail, you can only start typing a name, or email address to add someone to the To, etc.. It will not give you a list to search, or allow you to select a Group.
