View 24 RepliesMy wife just got Motorola Droid 2 with Android 2.2 running on Verizon. She is syncing via Google Calendar and is happy with that. It appears that the great search company that is Google did not put in a search function within the native Android Calendar (there is of course within online Google Calendar). What replacement Calendar for droid do you have experience with, that of course synchs with google calendar and also has built in search function.

No problem with appointments / events created on desktop syncing down to phone. Problem Identification: Default calendar when creating appointment / event on phone was calendar called "Phone". There is no calendar on desktop called "Phone". Solution: Pick different calendar when creating an appointment / event on your phone.

I'm using launcher pro, and setting up all 7 home pages again takes a LOT of time.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI need to split a date string into pieces and I'm doing it using the public final StringBuffer format (Object object, StringBuffer buffer, FieldPosition field) from the java.text.DateFormat class. However, the implementation of this function is really slow, hence Android has an own implementation in android.text.format.DateFormat. BUT, in my case, I want to extract the different pieces of the date string (year, minute and so on). Since I need to be locale independent, I can not use SimpleDateFormat and custom strings. I do it as follows: Code...
For some reason, the format() overload with the FieldPosition argument is not included in the android platform. Any ideas of how to do this in another way? Is there any easy way to tokenize the pattern string? Any other ideas?
I'm getting a replacement phone in tomorrow, and wanted to know if backing up and restoring apps with this throws them back in the Market as downloaded?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought an Audubon Birds Field Guide app for my Droid X and installed it, in addition to a ton of other free apps. Unfortunately the Droid died and I got a new one from VZ. When I took the new DX to the VZ store to set it up the guy said I should be able to restore all the apps I had installed, including the one I bought, but none of them showed up on the phone. He was not really all that helpful and told me to contact Audubon about replacing the app. I just did that, but I am concerned that none of the apps I had already installed showed up on the new DX.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am new to Android, Google calendar and the Captivate phone. Have successfully imported my old calendar to Google Calendar which initially synced with the calendar on my captivate. However, when I add a new event to my phone calendar, it does not automatically show up on the Google calendar. the Samsung rep told me I have to edit each new even to mark it as a "Google Calendar". Is there any way to make this the default option on the Captivate phone? I am hoping to have automatic syncronization b/t the phone and the Google calendar without having to force it to do so each time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is the right place to post this up, but I figure there's going to be a lot of you coming from other non-Android handsets. I've got a TP 2 - good l' WinMo. I've grown pretty attached to it and there's a couple of apps I'm -really- going to miss and I hope a couple of you know of some good alternatives:
GPS Speedo(.exe) - Just a single exe file, all it does is make the whole screen white, with large black numbers in the center. It used the phone's GPS to measure your speed (in MPH or KPH). Any Android equivalent?
OBD Gauge - Data logging of OBD II cars via serial or, in my case, blue tooth. I used this to data log my car, or when I'm working on tuning other vehicles. This one is kinda indispensable. I'm really hoping someone will know of an alternative to this one. It connects over blue tooth by connecting via BT serial port.
G Alarm - Excellent alarm app. I use my phone to wake me up every morning. This will re-play alarms after 10 minutes, unless totally dismissed, even require a simple math problem to dismiss/snooze the alarm. I don't have such high requirements I just want a good morning alarm clock style app that will wake me up every morning.
My dinc is defective so verizon will be sending me a replacement. will the phone be a refurb?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am getting the random shutoffs constantly now. Also recently my phone will no longer connect up with my computer, it tells me in the notifications that the USB is connected even when it isn't(idk if this one is a common problem or not). But my question is whether or not I can get a replacement. I bought my phone in late August and these problems have been on and off since beginning of October. I do not have insurence because I came from an iphone4 and didn't realize insurance was available on the Captivate(I called literally one day after the 30 window expired and the lady wouldn't give it to me, thanks ATT).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an LG Ally with a shattered screen. It still works fine, but the glass is broken and it isn't very pleasant to try to use the touchscreen. I already replaced the phone with an HTC Incredible, but I would like to try to repair the Ally for my fiance to use. I'm experienced in small electronics repair, but I am having a heck of a time locating the part. It just isn't coming up on any cell phone repair sites. Does anyone know of a supplier who would sell a replacement screen for this phone?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to see if I can get any good advice on a replacement phone for my work. The droid is my personal phone and I am up for a new device for my business phone. I have Verizon for my business phone as well and we are on a corporate plan. So the carrier has to be big V. I would try an android phone (other than the droid...I don't want two of them ) but I don't know how well android integrates with the Windows server for syncing contacts, calendar, outlook, etc. Any suggestions on phones currently out or coming out in the next month or two? Can have a physical keyboard or a decent touchscreen keyboard. I don't care as long as it works better than my HTC Touch did. Once I got my Droid. The resistive screen just didn't work for me anymore.

I called Vz this evening and they said they have finished sending out OTA updates for 2.2 and if I want it installed I have to go into a store.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI picked up my phone on launch day, version 2 hw. I was having a bit of the grounding issue, but the big problem was light leakage onto the screen. The whole bottom of the screen was brighter than the top. And the headphone port was junk. So I finally got my replacement yesterday, hoping to get a better phone. I turn it on, and its still a version 2 hardware. Looks good though as I played with it throughout the day. This morning I had some time to really look at it, and noticed a bunch of problems. The battery cover does not fit properly, the whole right side doesnt click in. It's literally just hanging there and has fallen off twice already. The grounding issue is bad on this phone, it wont even work in my gps holder in my car. And I am getting serious light leakage on the bottom of the phone now. I can literally stick my whole fingernail in between the bottom of the screen and the bezel. So what should I do here? Should I just try to get another replacement from RS and HOPE it works better? Or should I try to complain to Sprint about it? Sprint already told me they cant do anything yet since its within the 30 day purchase period. I really dont have time to be running back and forth to RS all week waiting for a replacement.
View 12 Replies View RelatedSo I have had my replacement phone for about a month now. I haven't had time to play with it that much. I clicked on PDF, and low and behold there is something that was downloaded to the SD card as a PDF on it. I did not download this, which means they gave me a used SD card with the replacement phone ( sketchy right?) Anyway, I want to delete the pdf, how do i do it? I know there is an uninstall place somewhere, just not sure where it is. Also how do I check to see what else is on the SD card?

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently upgraded my girlfriend's phone to the Epic. She lost it last night. I didn't have any apps on it to locate it. The battery is now dead, it goes straight to voicemail when you call it. Does anyone know if Sprint can track the last known location of it or something like that? We upgraded through Best Buy. I did have the total equipment protection plan. Where is going to be the best place to go to for a replacement?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI saw some similar threads in other phone forums (eris, EVO) but I'm wondering if anyone has had luck with this on the Dinc.
Verizon is shipping me what I assume is a refuted phone. If I turn it on, root it, and throw in my old SD card, will there be any trouble doing a typical nandroid restore?
i saw written previous issues of the title of the nandroid folder name (something about the correct phone serial number?)
edit: alternative could be titanium backup, but i don't know if one's preferable to the other.
