Android :: Calendar Replacement With Search Function?
Aug 25, 2010
My wife just got Motorola Droid 2 with Android 2.2 running on Verizon. She is syncing via Google Calendar and is happy with that. It appears that the great search company that is Google did not put in a search function within the native Android Calendar (there is of course within online Google Calendar). What replacement Calendar for droid do you have experience with, that of course synchs with google calendar and also has built in search function.

This question1 describes a way how to show list of phone numbers and select one of them if my app needs a phone number. But image if I have a huge contact list, it is not enough to just show list but possibility for filtering (by contact's name) is also needed. Is there a standard way to show phones list with picking possibility and with filtering possibility? (I wouldn't like to invent my own) Is there a solution for the problem for sdk 2.0 and lower?

I am planning on getting a Desire as it seems like a really nice phone. So I read the user manual on Legend to understand what it can do.
There are some questions:
I have all my contact and calendar info in Outlook 2003 and not in any online account. So I will only sync the phone with PC.
- can Outlook Contact fields like birthday and notes sync to People in the phone?
- user manual said I can search on Last Name, First Name in People. Can I search in the notes field?
- can I search for events in the Calendar? If so, can it search the whole database, or just up to X number of years in the past?

But please before you do, either read back through the pages of thread titles or search for what the problem is using the search function in the X10 section as the vast majority of questions have already been answered in previous posts. This is a slight rant but for the last month there has been times that the same question has been asked on more than one thread and have even seen 3 of the same threads together on here. Now that is just lazy. So please search first or maybe even give google a try after all it is Android/Google/ Rant over, for now till I get annoyed about SE lies even more so as my mate just installed 2.2 on his Desire and keeps taking the

Not sure if this is how it's intended to work, but when I try to search through my text messages (go in to Messages app, press the hard search button key), it only seems to search the last sent text for every thread (as opposed to the entire thread).

today, a mayor update for touchpad has been released (v4 -> v5). i like the new look, but the keyboard has lost a key function: it was possible in v4 to hold on a letter and drag it down to write the secondary function.e.g.: hold "h" and drag it down -> "&".it was also possible to edit the secondary functions. v5 doesn't allow me to do this.

In my Touch Pro 2, i was able to open a calendar and click a conf call phone number, it called the number. (same as on my EVO).Then once i am in the call, I could click the back button and view 1/2 calendar and 1/2 dial pad. It was very helpful because i could see my passcode from the calendar for my conf call WHILE i dialed them in at the same time.Is there any app or function like this with Android?

I use this button all the time on my DINC for voice commands, usually things like locate .... and it pops up google maps and shows me what I'm looking for. Since Bing is the search engine of choice on the Fascinate, what function will holding down the button serve? Will it still allow Google Voice commands? If not, I think that's a deal breaker for me.

Has the copy/search function been removed from the browser in froyo or did it never have it? When i copy in the browser, I only see the option to share or copy to the clipboard. I have the HTC mytouch slide 3g, running 2.1 and when I copy in that browser, I have the option to search but I don't see that with the Incredible.

Is at least one of the stock calendar apps needed for the phone to function properly? I have never used nor will I ever need the calendar and was just wondering if it's safe to delete. I've already removed the corporate one, but left the standard one on the phone thinking it was important.

This has been a major annoyance for me. On Android 1.5, I have not found a way to search the Google calendar.
Does anyone know of a way to do so? Or is this something that is available in a newer version of Android?
Who'd thunk it, no search available for calendar?

My alarm clock sometimes decides to snooze for an hour and 10 mins rather than 10 mins. I nearly missed work on Friday, what is going on!? I waited a long time for the X10 mini to come out and admit that I am a little dissappointed. I've had a SE W580i until recently and I am finding that there are a lot of basic things that my old phone could handle but my new one seems to struggle with.I have used my phone alarm as my only alarm clock for at least the last 5 years. I really struggle to get up in the morning and if I turn the alarm off, I'll fall straight back to sleep again, therefore I rely heavily on the phone's snooze function to wake me up eventually after going off a few times. I was initially dissappointed that you cannot personalise the snooze duration on the x10 mini, the 10 mins is usually ok for me but in certain situations I prefer to shorten it. Please consider including this in the next software update, Sony Ericsson!
But the pressing problem is the (massively) extended snooze. It happens every few days and seems to be quite random. The first few times I hit the snooze button, it works as normal. A picture of an alarm clock comes up showing the time, and a white segment of clock face is highlighted indicating how long the snooze is for (10 mins) and when it will next go off. Then, I stir due to some disturbance outside, notice that the sun is definitely brighter than it was when I was last awake, grab my phone in a panic and realise that I have been sleeping for 20 mins since the alarm last went off, and that I have less than 7 mins to get up, dressed, packed and on the bus or I will be late for work. Meanwhile my phone is cheerfully still displaying the clock face with the white segment showing that I have 40 mins left to snooze and all is well. I didn't even know it was possible for this phone to snooze for anything other than 10 mins. Unfortunately I am asleep whenever this has happened and I'm not sure how I've done it.
I have tried setting the alarm when awake and then pressing various buttons, tapping the screen in various places, even pressing and holding the snooze button or swiping it. Most of these actions do nothing and the only way to stop the alarm is to slide to turn off or press the snooze button. My theory as to what is happening is that the phone snoozes for the normal 10 mins, but then when it reaches the time to go off again, it fails to go off and then the snooze time is displayed as 50 minutes (until it reaches that time again for the next hour). I think the white segment does initially show the 10 mins, I've started checking when I hit the snooze button after it happened a few times, but I might be doing something different in my sleep somehow.

This happens on my Evo (Stock ROM Froyo 2.2) and may be happening on yours too. My calendar has a bunch of appointments put in either by our Exchange server or manually added by me. Normally these look fine. However, if I go into the built in calendar application and click the search button (magnifying glass) and then search for an appointment something strange happens. Once the search finds the appointment and I press on the appointment to open the event, the time now shows 12:00 AM. instead of when the appointment really is. Now, the time isn't actually changed because if I navigate/scroll to the actual event and open it from there it's fine.

For the life of me, I can't find a way to search for entries in my calendar other than manually swiping left or right while viewing the day in time grid format. This works of course but it has some obvious limitations. Now I can predict that someone will say, just use the Gmail Calendar. This is because calendar entries input into the Web Gmail Calendar show up in my HTC Hero calendar and the Gmail Calendar has a search option; i.e. so I could go to the Web, open the Gmail Calendar and search for the item there. This method works, of course, but it's kind of double the work and forces me to depend on the web instead of my HTC phone where I'd prefer to search directly inside the default Hero calendar application.

This is probably so easy I'm overlooking the answer; but I've accidentally dragged the big google search bar and Calendar apps off screen and now it's gone. I did not even move to the 'remove' bar.
I know how to bring back the icon for Voice search and the icon for Calendar out of the Program list,..but I liked when they were maximized on their own panels.
Anyone know how to restore these in their maximized states?
