Apr 5, 2010I'm getting a replacement phone in tomorrow, and wanted to know if backing up and restoring apps with this throws them back in the Market as downloaded?

View 6 RepliesLooks like I have a dead pixel issue on my camera.. when I get a replacement, can that transfer all my settings and everything over, or do I need to downbload and install and setup everything all over again? I'm using launcher pro, and setting up all 7 home pages again takes a LOT of time.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI need to split a date string into pieces and I'm doing it using the public final StringBuffer format (Object object, StringBuffer buffer, FieldPosition field) from the java.text.DateFormat class. However, the implementation of this function is really slow, hence Android has an own implementation in android.text.format.DateFormat. BUT, in my case, I want to extract the different pieces of the date string (year, minute and so on). Since I need to be locale independent, I can not use SimpleDateFormat and custom strings. I do it as follows: Code...
For some reason, the format() overload with the FieldPosition argument is not included in the android platform. Any ideas of how to do this in another way? Is there any easy way to tokenize the pattern string? Any other ideas?
Is there a good replacement calendar app for Android?? I just dont like the stock calendar app on Sprint HTC Hero. I miss a lot of features from my blackberry calendar?

We have just released V2.1.1 of MyBackup and MyBackup Pro.
This new version now supports Android 2.0, so for you Motorola Droid users, make sure to check it out.
It also supports GMail sync for Android 2.0, Android 2.0 works in a way that now allows us to resolve this issue.
Along with Android 2.0 (Motorola Droid phones) support we also added:
- Support for any screen resolution.
- Language localization into German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. (more to come)
- Support for Music Playlists.
We backup more data then any other application on the market. With more supported Android devices than anyone else.

I bought an Audubon Birds Field Guide app for my Droid X and installed it, in addition to a ton of other free apps. Unfortunately the Droid died and I got a new one from VZ. When I took the new DX to the VZ store to set it up the guy said I should be able to restore all the apps I had installed, including the one I bought, but none of them showed up on the phone. He was not really all that helpful and told me to contact Audubon about replacing the app. I just did that, but I am concerned that none of the apps I had already installed showed up on the new DX.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased MyBackup Pro, and its just not working!
Every time I try and back up, either online or to the SD Card I get this error:
'Error during backup: Error opening D B'
I purchased it because my contacts when reimported from the HTC Hero Orange firmware update, synched with google, went crazy! I now realise I should have turned off the google synch, but I kept a backup of my backup and have restored this to the SD Card. This gives me the error:
'Could not get backup set.'
So I did a hard reset this am in hopes of eliminating the sluggishness of my Hero. However, I found out that I had to install each and every app that I had, instead of a "Click here to reinstall everything." I only saved the apps that I wanted/needed, so I feel as if I got cheated by buying this app.

So what are people doing? Backing up to SD card, removing SD card, and placing it in a safe place should their phone get lost/stolen?
I recently rooted my phone and have been playing around with ROMS and such and clearly needed to back all of my information up. I used the nandroid backup and titanium backup for my apps and then i realized i had no contacts.
So i found mybackup pro and it works great! i actually use this instead of titanium backup now. my only problem is that when it backed up my contacts, i only had like 400+ contacts and now i had 1500
i was able to filter out the extra 1000 by viewing only people with phone numbers, i guess it added all of my fb friends to my contact list. How can i get rid of all of these extra people?
its not just the fb contacts that were added, but there seems to many duplicates which are just linked together. when i go to edit a contact, it asks me which contact to edit, and it lists like 3 or 4 of the same contact name and they all say google underneath.
My brother just got a replacement phone through insurance after bringing it for a swim with him in the ocean
Anyways, it feels lighter than my phone which i got second day of release, his is the same hardware version as mine 0003... Am i just crazy or is it lighter?
I made a very simple application to start playing around with Android development. It works fine on the emulator, but it gives me the following error when I try to install it on my HTC Hero (v1.5): The application Simple Dial (process com.foo.simpledial) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. (Force Close button) and on in the Eclipse console, I get the following message:

It works on the phone, but not if I have the gluLookAt call in onDrawFrame.
What's the problem with gluLookAt in onDrawFrame?
I thought I should post this here since it's an appbrain is an app site. For the last few days whenever I go to the appbrain website I get this.... Error: Server Error. Is anyone having this same problem? I'm sure it's their site but I wanted to be sure.
I do have the appbrain app on my phone and it still works.
Not sure if this is the right place to post this up, but I figure there's going to be a lot of you coming from other non-Android handsets. I've got a TP 2 - good l' WinMo. I've grown pretty attached to it and there's a couple of apps I'm -really- going to miss and I hope a couple of you know of some good alternatives:
GPS Speedo(.exe) - Just a single exe file, all it does is make the whole screen white, with large black numbers in the center. It used the phone's GPS to measure your speed (in MPH or KPH). Any Android equivalent?
OBD Gauge - Data logging of OBD II cars via serial or, in my case, blue tooth. I used this to data log my car, or when I'm working on tuning other vehicles. This one is kinda indispensable. I'm really hoping someone will know of an alternative to this one. It connects over blue tooth by connecting via BT serial port.
G Alarm - Excellent alarm app. I use my phone to wake me up every morning. This will re-play alarms after 10 minutes, unless totally dismissed, even require a simple math problem to dismiss/snooze the alarm. I don't have such high requirements I just want a good morning alarm clock style app that will wake me up every morning.
My dinc is defective so verizon will be sending me a replacement. will the phone be a refurb?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am getting the random shutoffs constantly now. Also recently my phone will no longer connect up with my computer, it tells me in the notifications that the USB is connected even when it isn't(idk if this one is a common problem or not). But my question is whether or not I can get a replacement. I bought my phone in late August and these problems have been on and off since beginning of October. I do not have insurence because I came from an iphone4 and didn't realize insurance was available on the Captivate(I called literally one day after the 30 window expired and the lady wouldn't give it to me, thanks ATT).

I already replaced the phone with an HTC Incredible, but I would like to try to repair the Ally for my fiance to use. Does anyone know of a supplier who would sell a replacement screen for this phone?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am am recent migrant from Blackberry. One of the nice things on the BB was that when you set the alarm, you can switch the BB off overnight and be sure that at the set alarm time, the BB wakes and the alarm goes off. The alarm on the HTC Desire does not seem to do that - i.e. when I turned it off overnight it did not wake when the alarm should have gone off. I tried a couple of other alarm apps and no luck. Is there an alarm app for my requirement? Or is this not possible with an Android phone?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to see if I can get any good advice on a replacement phone for my work. The droid is my personal phone and I am up for a new device for my business phone. I have Verizon for my business phone as well and we are on a corporate plan. So the carrier has to be big V. I would try an android phone (other than the droid...I don't want two of them ) but I don't know how well android integrates with the Windows server for syncing contacts, calendar, outlook, etc. Any suggestions on phones currently out or coming out in the next month or two? Can have a physical keyboard or a decent touchscreen keyboard. I don't care as long as it works better than my HTC Touch did. Once I got my Droid. The resistive screen just didn't work for me anymore.
