Android :: Prolonged Touching In One Area Causes OnTouchEvent To Stop Registering?

Jan 12, 2010

I'm trying to do something in my app where you have to hold your finger on the screen for more than 30 seconds. After about 30 seconds, it stops sending onTouchEvents for that part of the screen, almost like a "dead zone." Tested on a motorola droid, and is there any way to stop this from happening?

HTC Incredible :: Phone Started Shifting Home Screen To Right Without Any Touching / Stop It?

My wifes Incredible started shifting the home screen to the right without any touching. When its centered the screen begins swiping to the right as if a finger was there. In "all programs" it starts highlighting apps as if I was touching them but I am not. I have tried G-sensor calibration, keyboard calibration, restarts and the closing of apps but cant find where the trouble lies. Is it possible the touchscreen is now defective?

Samsung Galaxy S :: Prolonged Battery Charging

Jun 10, 2010

Prior to getting the Galaxy S, after I read what Samsung were saying in the manual of not to overcharge, I investigated the reasons and wrote in various topics on the battery and the differences between Li-Ion & Li-Pol battery types.At that point with all the evidence found it made sense to believe that what Samsung were saying in not to overcharge was accurate.Basically, at that time it was believed the phone used a Li-Pol, Li-Pol batteries are different in that they are 'wet cell' as opposed to Li-Ion which are 'dry cell' charged.Li-Pol can be manufactured much thinner but can not be manufactured in different shapes.This is to allow the wet cells whilst under charge which become hot to move around the battery freely. If a Li-Pol was manufactured in different shapes like Li-Ion it would create a 'hot-spot' in an area where the wet cell could not move fluidly around the remainder of the battery.However, it has now come to light that this is not the case and that the batteries provided with the phone are indeed Li-Ion.Anyway, moving on to the present.

After now getting the phone and doing a bit of testing I have found the overcharging issue NOT to be an issue.When you commence a charge on the phone the icon changes to a charge state.However, once the battery has reached maximum charge capacity the battery icon automatically changes to a 'Non-Charge' state and then the phone simply runs off it's own battery. This is despite the phone is still connected to the charger. It's just that the charger although still attached is no longer charging the battery.As soon as the battery falls below a certain figure (I've had different figures ranging from 98% right down to 91% which is probably due to whatever the phone is doing at that particular time to wake the phone up from realizing "hey, you are still attached to a charger, now wake up and start charging again").

Android :: OnTouchEvent Limited To 36x / Second?

Jan 12, 2010

I've been pulling my hair out trying to achieve smooth scrolling in an OpenGL-based app on Eclair. It seems that no matter what I do, I cannot get more than 36 events per second (the rest is sent in history data which is useless in my case). This happens on both the emulator and the Motorola Milestone.Is this a hardcoded limit or am I doing something wrong? I'm implementing onTouchEvent on the activity and recording how many events are received per second and then send that info through Log.v to Eclipse. I also tried implementing onTouchEvent on the view instead of the activity and the results are the same.

Android :: Framerate Killed By OnTouchEvent Spam

Apr 27, 2009

I've got a problem with a flood of touch events destroying my game's framerate while there is a touch active. Basically onTouchEvent is called (with getAction = ACTION_MOVE, x = 0 and y = 0) about a hundred times a second for as long as the finger is touching the screen. I've tried returning from onTouchEvent straight away, and even removing its implementation at all, but it doesn't help - the app slows to a crawl as soon as a finger is down. I asked on the IRC channel and Romain Guy advised me that they're aware of the problem but didn't have time to fix it for Cupcake, so I'm not expecting a full solution!

Android :: Lags During OnTouchEvent On Motorola DROID

It worked and works perfectly on my G1 and on some other Google devices. But for DROID I hear many complaints. As I don't have a DROID, could someone please tell me if there is still a need for this workaround? Or shall I have to do anything else?

Android :: Sleeping In OnTouchEvent Blocks OnSensorChanged

Nov 13, 2010

I'm making an application which will utilize both touchevents and sensorevents. The problem with touchevents is that they fire off very often, and thereby consumes massive amounts of CPU time. The common solution is to do a Thread.sleep to make it cool down.However, if one wants to use both the onTouchEvent and onSensorChanged in the same activity, applying the Thread.sleep hack will also slow down onSensorChanged. This is obviously caused by the two methods being called from the same (ui) thread.Is there some way to call onTouchEvent from a different thread than the ui, so one could do the Thread.sleep trick without slowing down onSensorChanged as well?

Android : Catching Button Behavior - Using OnTouchEvent Method To Capture ACTION_DOWN

Oct 20, 2010

I need to specify the full button images for both the up and down positions. My impression is that the most probable choice is to use an custom button based on the ImageView and specify the image for up and down positions. I am using the OnTouchEvent method to capture the ACTION_DOWN, but I'm not getting the ACTION_UP event.

Is there a better choice for creating a button that controls the full button image, catches the Down/Up and can subdivide the down time into time slices? If not, how do I catch the up event.

My application expects a screen touch on the "button" and not a keyboard action.

Android :: Registering For C2DM Framework

Sep 5, 2010

I'm trying to test the C2DM framework. I got the confirmation email a couple of days ago and then tryied to create a client that could register. For that purpose, I created a simple client following the steps described in this tutorial:
http://code.google.com/intl/es-419/android/c2dm/index.html.

The Android manifest file contains among other things this code:
<permission android:name="com.bilthon.ufrj.permission.C2D_MESSAGE"
android:protectionLevel="signature" />
<uses-permission android:name="com.bilthon.ufrj.permission.C2D_MESSAGE" />
<uses-permission android:name="com.google.android.c2dm.permission.RECEIVE" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/>
<receiver android:name=".C2DMReceiver"
android:permission="com.google.android.c2dm.permission.SEND">
<intent-filter> <action android:name="com.google.android.c2dm.intent.REGISTRATION" />
<category android:name="com.bilthon.ufrj" /> </intent-filter>
<intent-filter> <action android:name="com.google.android.c2dm.intent.RECEIVE" />
<category android:name="com.bilthon.ufrj" /> </intent-filter> </receiver>

And then, the main activity launched when the program starts has the following code:
Intent registrationIntent = new Intent("com.google.android.c2dm.intent.REGISTER");
registrationIntent.putExtra("app", PendingIntent.getBroadcast(this, 0, new Intent(), 0));
// boilerplate registrationIntent.putExtra("sender","mytestemail@gmail.com");
Log.d("WelcomeScreen","mytestemail@gmail.com");
startService(registrationIntent);

I also registered a google account on the AVD running my client, as they said it was required. But the problem is that I cannot get the broadcast receiver to "wake up". I don't know what could be wrong. By analysing the logs, I can see that the registration intent is created and apparently used correctly, but the receiver code just never is executed, what could be wrong?

Android :: WebView Word Touching Ability

Oct 2, 2009

I was wondering whether there was a way, if you have a webview with some html being displayed in it, to obtain which part of the html is touched by the user. For example, say I have a webview that's displaying, in just plain text (no links), the following:

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs.

If the user touches the word "lazy", can I somehow obtain information that he has touched that particular word? Perhaps there is something in the WebView or WebViewClient classes that maps sections in the html data to x, y coordinates?

Android :: Simply Touching Screen Reduces Fps

Aug 10, 2009

Try SpriteMethodTest, set 100 sprites, select OpenGL / Use VBO, let it run for a while. You will get something around 20ms / 50 fps. Now run it second time, and simply touch screen while test is running. You will get something around 35ms / 29 fps. So it is 15 ms difference. As I understand, the answer is simple - it is that dispatcher thread running with THREAD_PRIORITY_URGENT_DISPLAY priority.Setting THREAD_PRIORITY_URGENT_DISPLAY priority (will it work on non- ADP firmware?) on renderer thread yields 30 ms / 33 fps.

Android :: ListView And OnItemSelectedListener And Clicking / Touching

Sep 13, 2009

1. When does OnItemSelectedListener get called?My expectation was that when an element of a ListView was clicked/ touched that the OnItemSelectedListener would be called. My OnItemSelectedListener is not called when a list element is clicked/ touched. (It is called if the list has focus and I move through the list with the arrow keys in the emulator) Is that the way it works? This ListView has an adapter that supplies TextViews for drawing the list elements.

2. With a ListView set up this way who handles display of selected list items? Does the ListView do it or should the adapter configure the views it supplies to make them look "selected?"
