View 3 RepliesI have had my evo for about a week now and have had no problems up until now. You know when you want to add a app to the homescreen and hold down until it says add app, add folder, etc. Well wen i press add app it doesn't do anything and sometimes it selects one of the other options. It has been working fine until today, so i am wondering what the problem is.
Ps. I am posting from my evo and just noticed i cannot type the letter d in landscape mode.
I believe Google is about to fumble the ball, so to speak. I sense a growing frustration with users with how various service providers are handling the updates to Android on their devices, such as Rogers in Canada. There doesn't seem to be any uniform system of rolling out Android updates to all the various devices people are using. I can understand if an older device is not functionally able to handle a new version because of hardware limitations but when a company doesn't offer an update to a phone that is capable of handling it, that will cause major problems for Google/Android. I haven't had my HTC Magic all that long but an unable to upgrade to Android 2.0 without rooting the phone which I'm not inclined to try. It's a TIM's version and so far I can find no information about the latest version of Android in the works for it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know the "cool kid in school" thing to do is make fun of the iPhone market for having 1,000's of 'Fart apps'
But let's be honest at the end of the day it's really not true, and now coming from being a previous iPhone owner and now a Droid owner i can honestly say, the iPhone app market wins by a TON.
This is just a general QUALITY of apps comparison as well.
NO i'm not switching back... but man do i miss the iPhone apps...
Especially facebook.. and others..
You can REALLY tell the difference between the quality of iPhone apps vs Android,
So why am i starting this thread?.. Well i'm hoping maybe a developer could chime in and enlighten us on why this is...
Things i'm curious about-
Is programming in android worse then in the iPhone OS? is that why apps are WAY less in quality?
And you can't give the excuse that it's because things are new, when the iPhone market came out the apps were quality at day 1, many of them were.
So what's the difference? i guess software...
Well i'm sticking with android even though this exists.. in hopes that maybe future Android OS updates and SDK's will improve this very obvious difference.. right now i'm not impressed at all... the apps are all Slow, and they look horrible.
And for twitter? holy crap... iPhone owners back me up here, but the iPhone twitter apps are lightyears ahead of android twitter apps.
Just take a look at Tweetdeck for iPhone, and compare to to what i guess is the best android twitter app, twidroid?
Compare those and you'll see what i'm talking about.
Basically, I receive quite a few text messages off companies who send them using a PC, and so they appear as from the company name, rather than as a phone number. For example, texts from T-Mobile appear as from "T-Mobile". However, for some reason every text I get off a company starts a new thread, rather than all being in the same thread.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know of Skies of Glory, but how many apps do you guys know of that you can play your iphone friends in. I know there arent many. But i think there are 2 or 3 that you really have to look for but they just arent coming to mind aside from SoG.
Believe it or not, i still have 1 or 2 friends that havent converted to the evo and are still using that old iphone thing. Would love to kill em in words with friends but i know thats not for android (yet).
rooting and stuff and I want to use the Sleep Cycle alarm clock that is available only for iPhones..
using apps already on the market, I've tried a few and most don't match up with the iphone app
I'm sure its been covered somewhere but does anyone have an explanation as to why when I open advanced task killer it tells me a bunch of apps, that I didn't open, are running? Doesn't really slow my phone down too much, just annoying... Running Eris Root KaosFroyo

i do know that is cos of the resolution and etc.
is there anyway it can show phone specific apps?
I have friends that have iphones and I was wondering if there are any other apps that are compatible with eachother, only one I know of is "bump". I'm not talking about apps that are both available for each, but apps where you can play games with eachother, GPS locators ect.
View 8 Replies View RelatedHave somewhat limited exposure but what I do have on Android Apps is not positive. The Apple Apps store is far superior to what you get with AppBrain and Market. The Android Apps always give a very vague and sketchy description, next to impossible to get details of what it does.I bought Bettercut and Cashbook - Expense Tracker, both sucked in a big way.Already uninstalled both. The open architecture of Android is a great concept and I love my DroidX.I hope the apps come along soon to make the whole thing complete.

This is very pathetic, obviously written by an iPhone fanboi. When you get to the multitasking part watch how he can only switch between 4 very small apps and that's all he does.
I just wanted to check, e.g. on my Hero I can run GPS Tracker and press home and it will run in the background, play some music and press home and it will run in the background and go and do something else.
Are you saying the iPhone would have to completely exit the GPS Tracker to use another app or leave the GPS Tracker open and not do anything else for it to work?
Is there any way I can make my android behave like iphone does with apps and processes when I'm noy using them?On ios 6 and previous (in ios7 it is optional) background app processing is disabled, so battery when not using the phone isn't almost wasted.I don't really need that full multitasking android provides, but I do need better battery life.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm brand new to this world of mobile Internet.I feel like a kid in a candy store with all the neat apps out there for my new 3G.I was wondering, among all the endless apps out there, is there an app which allows me to open other apps simply by saying their names? Ex. "open Settings", "open Google Maps", "open Pandora".I just know it's gotta' be out there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust curious for an opinion or two I've been tempted to download Open Home from Better Android because of all their cool icons, skins, and other things. At the same time, I see comments about it slowing down the phone significantly or causing all sorts of forced closes, etc.Are most people using and liking Better Android apps? I've got an HTC Dream, so I'm on the old operating system. Not sure if that makes a difference.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHaving an issues with a friends DInc, when we tries to open most apps he gets an error asking him to install Android 1.5 ( lol ) - any ideas? He hasn't tried a factory reset or anything yet.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOn a few apps I have downloaded I am unable to actually open the app. The app does not show up in my apps list and when I open it in the marketplace it says it's installed but the "open" button is grayed out. Anyone know if I'm doing something wrong or if it's an app error? This has only happened on about 4 apps I've downloaded. The most recent one is BatterLife.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using a droid eris for a couple of months now and have loved the experience so far. Unfortunately, the honeymoon is over and I've been trying to do some productive things with it (outside of playing Robo Defense that is =p).I've been having problems opening different types of documents. My two biggest problems are with Quickoffice and PDF Viewer. When I launch Quickoffice, I get the "Open file" window which takes a few seconds to load and a few files begin to populate in the list. After just a couple of seconds, I get a force close message stating: Sorry! The application Quickoffice (process com.qo.android.htc) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" This same thing happens with the PDF Viewer as well. However, I can use a file manager like Linda Manager to browse to a specific file and then open it within the program just fine. I honestly don't know where to start

View 3 Replies View RelatedI like how in winmo , you can click the top right icon area and pull up all open apps to quickly switch between them. with android, i have to hit the home screen, swipe left (usually one time) to find my app and "re-open" it again. it's a hassle. maybe android doesn't have this option, maybe it's just a winmo thing, but i'm still getting adjusted from winmo > android.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am a fresh developer on Googles Android Platform - my HTC Desire arrived last week. Now i need a way to sign in to my existing application (Java, currently running on jetty). The server Application is developed using spring security 3.0.2
In my case, i want to support the following: If a user has set up his Android phone with a googlemail/google-Account (and most users do) i want to use this account credentials to automagically log in to my server app.
Is there any Android framework supporting that use-case? Or are there any alternatives? I read: http code.google.com intl/de-DE/apis/accounts/docs/OpenID.html
How we do sign in with an app on google AppEnging is described here: http://blog.notdot.net/2010/05/Authenticating-against-App-Engine-from-an-Android-app
Are there any face/picture morphing apps for android like there are on the iphone?
